Chapter 41: Accumulated NP
A month passed in the blink of an eye.
As usual, Sheila, Mash, and I worked on the farm during the day, while Thread handled things at night.
I had considered increasing our workforce, but since we could still manage with our current farm size, I focused on accumulating NP (Nourishment Points) this past month.
Thanks to that, my current NP balance was 38,597.
With this much NP, I felt like I could do anything. There were plenty of options available to me, but one concern weighed on my mind.
That concern was the gradual drop in temperature.
When I first arrived in this world, the weather was perfect for short sleeves. But now, it was so cold that I needed long sleeves to keep from shivering.
The early mornings and nights were even colder. Without wearing an outer layer, it was unbearable.
This drastic drop in temperature meant one thing—winter was coming.
Suppressing my desire to stay buried under my warm blankets, I forced myself to get up, shivering as I headed to the living room.
There, Sheila had already woken up and prepared a warm cup of coffee. Grateful for her kindness, I finally asked the question I had been avoiding until now.
“Sheila, just to confirm… does this country have winter?”
“Yes, of course. It should start snowing next month.”
…So there really was winter here.
If it snowed, farming would be impossible.
Even though my otherworldly Farming skill made it easier to grow crops, nothing would grow once the snow set in.
That meant I wouldn’t be able to earn any NP during winter.
For me, this was a major problem.
“I figured it was getting colder, but… so there really is winter here.”
“You seem pretty down about it. Is there some issue? …Could it be that you just hate the cold?”
“I do hate the cold, but the bigger problem is that I won’t be able to grow crops once it starts snowing. That means I can’t farm at all during the winter.”
“Wait, really!? Even though rain didn’t stop the crops from growing, I thought maybe snow would be fine too!”
“Nope, nothing will grow in the snow. So during the winter, farming just isn’t an option.”
I had heard of snow cabbage, but without the proper knowledge, I wasn’t confident I could grow it.
For now… winter would probably be a long break.
“That’s… really unfortunate. Is there no way to grow crops somewhere else?”
“Hmm… if I could find a cave or something, maybe I could set up a farm there…”
If I searched the mountains behind my house, I might find a small cave.
Since my skill let me create farmland, I could theoretically set up a farm inside a cave.
But commuting there would be a huge hassle.
I’d have to walk through snow-covered mountains just to get to my cave farm, work the land, and then trek all the way back through the freezing cold.
Yeah… not happening.
“So, it’s too difficult?”
“I think so. I’d love to grow more crops and earn NP, but… by the way, how long does winter last here?”
“About two to three months.”
“I see… I hadn’t really thought about what I’d do during winter, but since I won’t be able to farm, maybe I’ll try something new.”
“Something new? That sounds exciting! Can I join you?”
“Of course! But don’t you want to go back home for winter? In my old world, it was common to return home during this season.”
“I’m not going back. Actually… I’ll probably never go back.”
Sheila’s voice was unusually firm.
I never pried too deeply into her past, but it seemed like she had some serious issues with her family.
Noble families often had messy relationships, and Sheila didn’t seem eager to talk about it, so I decided not to push further.
“I see. What about returning to the royal castle?”
“No, I’m not going back there either.”
“Got it. In that case, let’s find something fun to do this winter.”
“Yes! I look forward to it, Sato.”
Since Sheila was staying, I considered trying something combat-related.
Maybe it was time to visit a dungeon.
When we had a sparring match before, Sheila seemed to genuinely enjoy fighting. She clearly liked combat, so it might be a fun challenge.
I couldn’t fight at all, but with Rhyme and Mash, our party should be stable.
And if things got rough, I could ask Velvet or Mika for backup.
“Well, until the snow starts falling, let’s keep working hard on the farm.”
“Yes, let’s do our best!”
After shaking off my concerns, I had breakfast and then headed outside to farm.
Since there was no weather forecast in this world, I had no idea when the snow would actually start.
For now, all I could do was pray that winter held off a little longer and focus on farming while I still could.
