Chapter 271: Second Round

The second round is taking place simultaneously in various locations, so it’s impossible to follow each match closely. I’m just checking the results from a high vantage point.

Mika versus Milagros: The match started with Milagros in control, and Mika was pushed to 0-2. However, she managed to recover and ultimately won 3-2.

Helena versus Shannon, a magician showdown, ended in a decisive victory for Shannon. While Helena may have had higher-level magic, Shannon’s combat sense and experience clearly made the difference.

Drake versus Ashros was a grueling battle that lasted the full time limit. Ashros managed to maintain an early lead and won, though in the final minute, Drake continued attacking relentlessly. Both were so exhausted it was hard to tell who really had the advantage.

Thread versus Zepaul was also a notable match, ending 1-0 in favor of Thread. To avoid revealing his demon heritage, Thread wore an unfamiliar helmet, which created a blind spot and allowed Zepaul to score one point. Without that, the match might have gone into overtime—so it was a bit unfortunate, but unavoidable.

Lime versus Yui was Lime’s most overwhelming victory of the tournament. Yui couldn’t respond to Lime’s rapid attacks after splitting, and Lime won in seconds. While clean hits on the splits are counted as valid strikes, making it not all benefit, it’s extremely difficult to counter.

Next was Frees, who received the most votes in the champion predictions. His opponent was Brittany, and as expected, Frees won decisively 3-1.

Although Frees won easily, he took a powerful strike from Milagros to his right side near the end. Brittany’s danger is that she can turn the tide from any angle, and that strike almost shifted the match, but Frees secured the final point and the victory.

The damage was significant and could affect the next match, but Frees is undeniably strong. I had thought of him as more of an eccentric, but his movements truly reflected the name of a Sword Saint, reminiscent of Donnie. Still, I wouldn’t put him in the top-tier champion predictions.

In other second-round matches involving yesterday’s qualifiers: Sheila, Rose, and Ren all advanced smoothly, while Mash lost to Leonore. Leonore had previously defeated Yato and fights with strictly fundamental tactics.

She’s similar to Lua, and it seems she had counter-strategies ready for Mash. Mash’s spore attacks were completely neutralized, resulting in his loss.

Still, Mash had landed two valid strikes, and had Leonore not known about Matango, he likely could have won.

With that, the last match of the second round remained: Isabella versus Silva.

According to the tournament bracket, Sheila should have had the final match. But her match extended to the full time limit, and then she defeated Paul immediately, making this match the final one.

Nevertheless, it’s one of the most anticipated matches of the round, so I’m glad I can watch it carefully.

I had wanted to talk with Silva slowly at the end of last tournament, but she had already left. I had even wondered if she would participate this time, so it’s great to see her here.

“Silva, long time no see. Thank you for participating again this year.”

“Thank you for letting me participate. Sorry about last year—I had to leave suddenly due to urgent business.”

“No worries at all. If there’s time, we can talk later. If not, it’s fine to leave after your match.”

“Thanks for your consideration. Well then, I’ll go have my match.”

Silva moved his heavy frame lightly and headed to the arena.

I know Silva’s skill, but his opponent is Isabella. She’s extremely talented, and this match could go either way.

Personally, I hope Isabella wins so I can talk with Silva afterward—but that’s probably too selfish a wish.

“All right, final second-round match! Both competitors, take your positions!”

“Let’s do our best. I won’t go easy, even if you’re older.”

“Hoho. I cannot go easy on a young lady either. I’ll give it my all, forgive me.”

“You cheeky old man. You’re going to feel some pain.”

“Just as I like it.”

After a tense exchange of words, they both took their weapons.

Isabella wields a one-handed sword, and Silva fights with dual blades.

“Begin!”

The referee’s signal started the match.

Who will win… this is truly an exciting battle.
