Chapter 115: Helping Out
We had finished the usual greetings, so I assumed Yato-san and the others would leave soon—but that didn’t seem to be the case.
Could it be that they’re planning to stay here for a while?
“Yato-san, aren’t you going home soon?”
“Hmm? Satou, do you want me to go home?”
“No, not at all! It’s just… you said you ran away from home, so I thought your parents might be worried.”
“They’re not back yet, so it’s fine! I was hoping we could stay here today and tomorrow—would that be alright?”
“That’s fine… but I won’t be able to serve you the same dishes as yesterday.”
“Whaaat!? Why not!? I came back so quickly because I wanted to eat that food!”
“I had heard from the lady that the food here was amazing… so we can’t have it after all?”
Not only Yato-san, but even Ashros-san looked obviously disappointed.
I had thought it was a bit too soon for them to return—but clearly, they came back this fast just to eat Japanese food again.
“It’s unfortunate, but I only have a limited amount of ingredients. However, if you really want to eat it…”
“Yes!? What comes after ‘if’? I really want to eat it!”
“Would you be willing to help with the farm work? The vegetables I use are grown here—if you help out, I’ll be happy to cook for you.”
“Of course I’ll help!”
“The young lady doing farm work…? Won’t Lord Father be furious?”
“He won’t find out, so it’s fine! Ashros, if you want to eat, then help too!”
“Of course I want to eat… very well. I’ll work hard enough for both of us—so could we leave it at that?”
Ashros-san spread her arms in front of me protectively, shielding Yato-san.
All I’d asked for was help with farm work, but maybe dragons have a different way of thinking.
Or maybe it’s just Yato-san who’s unusual.
Considering she has a bodyguard, it reminds me a bit of Velvet-san… and if she really is a dragon known by everyone in this world, she might be some kind of dragon princess.
“No! I want to help too!”
“Please don’t be selfish. If Lord Father finds out, you’ll be the one getting scolded.”
“It’s fine! He won’t find out—and even if he does, I’ll figure something out!”
“Are you sure? If that’s the case, then I won’t stop you… but don’t blame me if you get scolded later.”
It felt like we might get dragged into this too, so I wanted to stop them—but with how eager Yato-san looked, it was too late to say no now.
If they were willing to work, I wouldn’t overthink it. I decided to have both Yato-san and Ashros-san help out properly.
“Are you both sure you’re willing to work?”
“Mm! I’m good to go!”
“Yes, thank you for the opportunity. I don’t know anything about farming, though—is that alright?”
“It’s totally fine. We’ll teach you everything.”
And so, we began teaching Yato-san and Ashros-san how to do farm work.
Both of them took it seriously and didn’t show any signs of getting bored… but Yato-san was just terrible at learning.
Whenever she got confused, she’d tilt her head and freeze.
If I explained anything too complex, she’d make a weird face and just shut down completely.
Even though she’s a dragon, she couldn’t seem to exert any power in her human form, and at this point, I was struggling to figure out what task suited her at all.
Still, she seemed to be having a great time, so I decided to just teach her slowly.
Based on Ashros-san’s words, it seemed Yato-san had never been allowed to do much before, so the act of growing something must have felt fresh and exciting.
Now, as for Ashros-san—she picked things up quickly and was extremely skilled.
Her raw strength was on par with Donnie-san’s, and far from doing the work of two people, she was already handling the workload of three.
“Ashros-san, you’re amazing. I only taught you one thing and you’re already doing ten. I’m honestly impressed.”
“Well, since the young lady is… like that, I’ll make sure to work twice as hard.”
“You’re a huge help. By the way, may I ask—are you also a dragon?”
“No, I’m from a race called the Ryujin (dragonkin). I have some scales and a tail here and there, but I’m otherwise no different from you, Satou-san.”
“I wouldn’t say you’re the same as me. I’m clumsy and weak—I’m confident I’m less capable than your average child.”
So Ashros-san is a Ryujin, it seems.
She has more impressive horns than Yato-san, dragon scales on her upper arms, and…
Most noticeably, a really cool dragon tail. Honestly, she looks way more like a dragon than Yato-san does.
“You don’t have to be modest. Ordinary people couldn’t be friends with the young lady.”
“…This might be rude to ask, but… is Yato-san really that important of a dragon?”
“Yes. Without a shred of exaggeration, she possesses the qualities of a ruler who could govern this entire world. She’s still very much a child, so it might be hard to believe from your perspective, though.”
Yato-san… a ruler of the world?
Yeah… I just can’t picture it.
Even when I saw her dragon form, all I saw was someone kinda clumsy and silly.
As Ashros-san and I chatted about all this, we worked steadily through the tasks.
Even with Yato-san not being much help, thanks to Ashros-san’s efforts we finished before evening.
Honestly, I’d been planning to have them work another day and serve them the food tomorrow…
But with Yato-san looking at me with such sparkling eyes, I guess I’ll treat them to Japanese food again—two days in a row.
