Chapter 107: Black-Gold Gets Harassed

The next morning, an adventurer Tauro knew passed him at the guild entrance.

“Sorry. I drank too much last night and let something slip.”

The man put his hands together apologetically as he hurried by.

“…What was that about? Good morning.”

Puzzled, Tauro and his companions returned the greeting and entered the guild. As usual, they gathered before the quest board and began discussing which request to accept.

Then the same four adventurers from the previous day appeared.

“So you really are Black-Gold Wings! You completely deceived us!”

Nasirus, the group’s leader, sighed theatrically and presented himself as the injured party.

Apparently, they had scattered money around the Resting Pavilion, an adventurer hangout, to obtain information. They had probably bought the apologetic adventurer a drink, and he had revealed something while drunk.

“…We never deceived you. We simply didn’t answer a question you never asked,” Tauro replied on behalf of the team.

“A subordinate brat should keep his mouth shut! We’re speaking to your leader, Aeris!” Iratuk snapped.

Tauro exchanged looks with Aeris and the others.

“That’s what he says, Aeris?” Tauro asked with a laugh.

“Why, you insolent brat!”

Iratuk strode toward him and reached for his hair. Tauro slapped the hand aside and stepped back.

“Violence is forbidden inside the guild. An adventurer should know the rules.”

Chloe, the branch manager, had been watching the exchange.

“Jet-Black Swords, violence within the guild can result in the revocation of your adventurer credentials.”

“He struck me first!” Iratuk protested angrily.

“It looked to me as though he knocked your hand away after you reached for him.”

“Damn it!”

“Now, now, Iratuk. And you too—both sides should calm down,” Nasirus interjected, adopting the manner of an impartial mediator.

Tauro had been calm throughout, yet Nasirus was trying to make him share the blame. He wondered whether the man was right in the head.

“Come outside! We’ll show you how strong we are!”

Vichina, the redheaded woman of the Jet-Black Swords, challenged Tauro on Iratuk’s behalf.

“We’re here to choose a quest, and we don’t have time to waste on you. Come back after you’ve at least reached the E-rank range,” Aeris replied, apparently sharing Tauro’s opinion. She rejected the challenge without hesitation.

“What, are you scared? How pathetic for a leader!” Iratuk taunted her.

“I don’t know what you’ve convinced yourselves of, but Tauro is the leader of Black-Gold Wings.”

Aeris indicated the boy standing slightly shorter than she was.

The Jet-Black Swords stared in speechless surprise.

“Ha ha ha! That’s a good one. You made your porter the leader?” Nasirus said after recovering his composure, refusing to take the claim seriously.

They had evidently also learned that Tauro possessed [Magic Storage] and assumed he was merely carrying the team’s luggage.

Being called a porter offended Aeris on Tauro’s behalf.

“Tauro is a leader worthy of our respect. Unlike a deluded, self-important fraud like you!”

Shin and Rumeya nodded firmly in agreement.

Aeris, don’t make this worse!

Tauro objected inwardly, but he understood that she was defending him and stepped forward.

“We’re inconveniencing everyone else. Would you please go outside? We can talk afterward.”

Other adventurers throughout the lobby were watching the two teams. Only then did the Jet-Black Swords realize they had become a spectacle.

“We’ll be waiting outside!” they declared before hastily leaving the guild.

Tauro watched them go, then turned to the room.

“Sorry for the disturbance. Good luck with your quests today, everyone!”

The lobby burst into laughter.

“What are you going to do, Black-Gold? They’re certainly eager.”

“You got yourselves tangled up with some real fools.”

“They seem to be nobles, though. They could cause trouble.”

The adventurers called out from around the room.

“I never agreed to face them. After we choose a quest, we’ll leave through the back,” Tauro replied.

The lobby erupted in laughter again.

“He’s right—all he did was ask them to go outside!”

“Clever!”

“You’ve got them there!”

While the guild united in laughter, Tauro and his companions accepted a quest and really did slip out through the back entrance.

  1. Reminds me of when Luffy was being made fun of by Bellamy and did nothing.

No need to react for petty things. If you do, there’s no end to things you’d respond to.
