Chapter 108: Annihilation

In the middle of the barracks stood a fairly decent wooden cabin.

It had once been the residence of Togo, chieftain of the Bloodfang Clan, but now it was occupied by the captain of the Blackwind Clan troops.

Hearing the commotion outside, the captain hurriedly rolled out of bed, grabbed the spear leaning against the wall, and prepared to head out to investigate.

With a loud bang, the door was violently kicked open, and a Blackwind soldier stumbled in.

Through the open doorway, flames could be seen in several places—some of the wooden huts outside were already ablaze. The situation looked dire.

“Captain! The Bloodfang Clan—ugh!”

Before he could finish, three Bloodfang clansmen burst inside.

At the front was Chi’en, the lizardman. He hurled his spear with deadly force, piercing the Blackwind soldier’s chest from behind, killing him instantly without a trace of mercy.

Taking a few steps forward, Chi’en planted his foot on the corpse’s back and yanked the spear free. He then turned toward the Blackwind captain, his face twisted with hatred.

The captain swallowed nervously, staring in shock at the three Bloodfang clansmen glaring at him like predators.

Especially the one leading them—his whole body radiated savagery. The beast hide he wore was drenched in blood, proof he had just slaughtered many lizardmen. Clearly, his skill was not to be underestimated.

It was obvious: this was an uprising—the lower caste rebelling against the upper.

But where had they gotten weapons? Were they not afraid of the Blackwind Clan’s punishment? Did they really intend to fight to the death? No… their chief couldn’t possibly have ignored the future of his people.

There was no time to dwell on why the revolt had started—the situation was already critical. The captain needed a plan.

“What are you doing?”

He demanded.

“What are we doing? Hmph.”

Chi’en sneered, turning to face him.

“Isn’t it obvious? We’re killing. Killing every last Blackwind here.”

“How bold! Do you want to end up like the Sinking Sand Tribe, wiped out to the last?”

The captain threatened.

Chi’en didn’t answer. He took a step forward instead.

The movement sent the captain into a panic—he hastily raised his spear.

“Wait! I can give you a chance to make amends. Drop your weapons and surrender to the Blackwind Tribe. All you need to do is hand over a few scapegoats from the Bloodfangs, and I’ll plead with the chief to spare you. He may even increase your food rations.”

The captain had no authority to promise such things. He simply didn’t want to die here. A little deception seemed a small price to pay for survival.

“No need.”

Chi’en lifted his spear as well.

“We’ve had enough of your oppression.”

Damn it! the captain cursed inwardly. They really meant to fight to the death.

He snapped.

“Even if you kill all my men, what then? Our chief will never forgive you! He’ll send the unstoppable Bone Warriors to crush your entire village!”

“Kill!”

Chi’en struck first. The other two Bloodfang clansmen also raised their weapons and joined the fray.

Seeing no choice, the captain thrust his spear to block the oncoming strikes, countering with a feint of his own.

As captain, his skill far surpassed that of the ordinary Blackwind soldiers outside.

Unfortunately, two hands could not prevail against four, especially when Chi’en’s combat prowess rivaled his own.

As the fight dragged on, the captain’s disadvantage grew. He became increasingly frantic, his movements sloppy and uneven.

In his panic, he failed to deflect one of Chi’en’s powerful blows—Chi’en’s spear drove straight through his chest.

“Damn it… the chief will avenge us…”

Before dying, the captain clutched tightly at the spear in his chest and muttered a resentful sentence before collapsing and perishing.

Chi’en struggled to pull out the spear, only to find the spearhead already bent. Shaking his head, he discarded it and picked up the fallen captain’s spear instead.

After confirming no one else was in the house, Chi’en led two Bloodfang warriors outside to continue hunting down the Blackwind tribe members.

Now that their captain was gone, the Blackwind soldiers outside were even more demoralized, falling into utter chaos.

With the combined numbers of the Bloodfang and the Sinking Sand tribes, the Blackwind unit stationed there was quickly wiped out.

When the battle ended, Xilong led his squad to the front gate to rendezvous with Togo’s group and at the same time return the Bloodfang women who had been abducted by the Blackwind tribe.

During the fighting, the Bloodfangs also discovered two more of their women who had suffered the same tragic fate.

It turned out the missing Bloodfang women had all been captured and abused by the Blackwind tribe. Learning this filled the Bloodfang people with even greater fury.

Unable to contain his rage, Chi’en kicked the corpse of an enemy lying nearby.

“Ow!”

To his surprise, the man was only feigning death. Chi’en immediately slashed him twice, finishing him off.

Fearing there might be more pretending to be dead, Togo ordered his men to stab every enemy corpse again and to gather all their weapons.

To speed things up, Xilong also sent his squad to help.

Afterward, Togo comforted the three rescued women and led them outside the barracks.

At the front gate, many Bloodfang tribespeople had already gathered.

After such a major incident, none of them could sleep. Except for the youngest children, most had come—elders included.

When they saw Togo emerge from the barracks, everyone fell silent, waiting for their chief’s explanation.

To preserve secrecy, Togo had not told the entire tribe of his plan—only the lizard warriors who took part knew.

But hearing the cries of anguish from inside, most had already guessed what had happened.

Sweeping his gaze over the crowd, Togo spoke:

“My people, ever since we submitted to the Blackwind tribe, we have suffered oppression after oppression, living in misery. Wherever there is oppression, there will be resistance. Just now, we destroyed the Blackwind unit stationed here. I apologize for keeping this action secret from you all.”

“There’s no need to apologize—we support our chief!”

“Yes! We’ve had enough already!”

The tribespeople shouted in unison, none blaming him.

Raising his hand to quiet them, Togo pointed at the three women brought out, his voice bitter with rage:

“Look at what those bastards have done. The women who went missing in recent days were dragged here and defiled by them. We cannot swallow this insult!”

“Amin! My daughter!”

From the crowd, a middle-aged woman rushed forward to embrace one of them.

That woman turned out to be Amin, the young woman who had disappeared a few days ago. At last, mother and daughter were reunited, clinging to each other in tears.

This scene stoked the fury of the Bloodfang people even higher.

Seizing the moment, Togo beckoned Xilong forward and introduced him:

“This is Xilong of the Sinking Sand tribe. It is thanks to their help that this mission succeeded. But destroying this small garrison is not enough. I intend to unite with the Sinking sand tribe to launch a full assault against the Blackwind tribe. Any who are willing to fight by my side, step forward!”

“I will, Chief!”

“And me!”

One after another, tribespeople—men and women, young and old alike—volunteered to join Togo’s forces and fight for the Bloodfang tribe.

Once the Blackwind weapons were collected, Togo distributed them among his people, quickly rebuilding a fighting force.

He left a small group behind to guard the village, while he led the rest, together with Xilong’s squad, toward the Blackwind tribe’s settlement to join with their other allies.

As for clearing the barracks—hauling away the enemy corpses, piling them up, and burning them—that was left to the Bloodfangs to handle, since time was pressing.

But simply killing the garrison was no true victory. Once the Blackwind tribe learned of it, they could send a much larger army at any time to crush the Bloodfang village.

That was why the coming joint assault by the four tribes to encircle the Blackwind tribe would be the decisive battle.
