Chapter 96: The Outbreak of World War II
“Are you ready, Lamia, Org?”
“We can move out anytime, Lord.”
“Same here.”
A week had passed since Odin was defeated.
Lord had prepared his military forces, and once everything was in place, he declared war on the world.
“But Lord, I didn’t expect you to have such ambitions… I truly thought there would be no more wars.”
“I must admit, I thought the same.”
“I see. I never told anyone, after all. Although… I think my brother may have sensed it somehow.”
“I am pleased! To die on the battlefield is the honor of a knight. Let us accomplish it—unification of the world!”
“But my Lord, are you certain that Sword Sylphid has truly committed treason?”
Lamia looked at Lord, not hiding her disbelief.
She didn’t know Sword very well, but still couldn’t believe that someone who fought so hard—battered and bruised—in the Imperial Sword Martial Festival would commit betrayal.
“…Yes. He’s in the isolation tower at Valhalla Castle. It’s still just suspicion, though.”
“I see… It’s a shame. His combat power is on par with a national asset…”
“…Yes.”
Lamia and Org saw the look on Lord’s face.
What did that sorrowful gaze mean? They assumed it must be because his own knight had betrayed him.
That’s what they told themselves.
And so, as Lord had declared, Asgard launched its war against the world.
“My brother left behind something truly useful—the floating airship Zeus. With this, I can command from right near the battlefield.”
Boarding the cutting-edge floating aircraft Odin had left behind, Lord began the Asgard Empire’s military campaign—with a goal of total global conquest.
“Now… let’s begin. The final battle.”
Lord made his declaration:
“I hereby declare the start of World War II.”
A second world war had begun.
Meanwhile, at the World Alliance Headquarters:
“Father!”
“Yes, I heard. They’ve already begun moving?”
An urgent message had come from a frontline base monitoring Asgard—the enemy was mobilizing.
Only one day had passed since Lord’s declaration.
Too fast.
The World Alliance hadn’t even fully coordinated yet.
“I’m going, Father. What Lord envisions might be an ideal world. But—”
“For us living in this time, it would be hell. I’m counting on you, Byakuren.”
Byakuren too wished for a world without war.
He could even understand Lord’s ideals.
Smiling, hand-in-hand children born of peace and education—that may truly be the world’s ideal.
But to bring that about, Lord declared he would destroy everyone living in the present world.
Such a future could not be accepted.
Lord understood that.
That’s why he used the word “destroy” and launched an invasion for world domination.
And so Byakuren deployed—alongside Thor—to confront Asgard head-on.
Lord and Asgard, for the sake of the future.
Byakuren and the World Alliance, for the sake of the present.
A clash of competing justices.
(Honestly… we’re at a disadvantage. Even with Odin’s army, we couldn’t beat them before—and their morale was rock bottom at the time.)
When Odin joined the World Alliance, his army’s morale had been at its lowest.
Still, their numbers alone gave a significant boost to military strength.
But now, all of that had become the enemy.
Their side, once with nearly double the strength, was now even.
The number of KOGs (Knights of Glory), ammunition, fuel, food—everything was now nearly equal.
Which meant:
“It all comes down to people…”
The only difference would be in people—their skills, their will.
And the people were what made Asgard the world’s most powerful nation.
Byakuren’s mind conjured the image of a single KOG.
A being who once, single-handedly, held off 50,000 World Alliance troops.
The man called the “The Sword God.”
“Sword Sylphid, the Sword God… If he enters the battlefield, we don’t stand a chance. But we have no other choice but to fight.”
And so, on this day, World War II began.
The conflict: Asgard vs. the World Alliance.
This wasn’t a war like the first.
This was to the bitter end.
They would fight until one side was utterly destroyed—a war of righteousness had begun.
Meanwhile, in the isolation tower.
Kenya, imprisoned by Lord, was locked away in the tower.
He thought he was in for hellish days ahead…
“Sword-sama, your meal is here.”
“Ah, thank you.”
But his life in isolation was surprisingly luxurious.
Three meals a day—and delicious meals at that.
Kenya had braced himself, recalling Odin’s Inquisition, thinking he’d be thrown into a similarly torturous life.
But when he opened the lid…
“May I ask your name?”
“My name is Sophie. I’ll be taking care of you from today. Please don’t hesitate to ask for anything.”
A personal maid had been assigned to him.
And, frankly, she was extremely cute.
“I am imprisoned, right?”
“Yes, but Lord ordered that you not be overly inconvenienced. You just can’t leave this place. I’m terribly sorry.”
“But what if I… forcibly made a move on you?”
“I’ve received special training. I’m afraid that as long as you’re unarmed, Sword-sama, you wouldn’t stand a chance.”
“Ah… right.”
Kenya’s combat ability was among the lowest in the world.
If there was anyone he could actually beat, it was probably Lord—or maybe some elementary school kids.
Having allocated all of his stats to his KOG (Knight of Glory), Kenya didn’t stand a chance against this beautiful blonde maid.
(Reina was strong, and so was Kaguya… The women in this world are insane…)
“Why is Lord being so kind to me, anyway?”
“I wouldn’t dare presume to understand Lord’s true intentions.”
Whenever Kenya asked Sophie something, this was the kind of answer he got.
(But if I’m being treated this well, my desire to escape kinda weakens… Is that the plan?)
“Could you tell me what’s going on outside…?”
“I’m terribly sorry, but I cannot share any information about the outside world.”
“Yeah, figured…”
That said, there really wasn’t much to do in this room except eat and sleep.
There were absolutely no forms of entertainment—torture in its own way.
“Ahhh, I’m dying of boredom!”
“If you wish, I can attend to you at night. Please feel free to make use of me however you like.”
“Huh!?”
Kenya was rolling around on the bed in boredom when Sophie casually dropped that line, with her beautiful face utterly devoid of emotion.
“W-What did you just say?”
“Nightly companionship. I have undergone special training… I believe I can satisfy you.”
“Special training!?”
(Wait, that’s the kind of special training!? Not combat-related!? Or does she mean combat in bed!?)
“It may be inappropriate of me to say this, but… your performance at the Imperial Sword Martial Festival has made you the object of admiration for every woman in Asgard. Strength is the empire’s ideal. There is no one in the world who surpasses you now. So naturally, many women in the empire wish to be your partner.”
Kenya noticed her cheeks slightly flushed as she looked at him with passionate eyes.
“I just thought I should let you know… I’m no exception. Please, don’t hesitate to ask—anytime.”
Her slightly blushing cheeks were, frankly, dangerously seductive.
No average high school boy would have the mental strength to resist such temptation.
Kenya, after all, was at the age where libido ran wild.
And that offer was, honestly—
“Loooord!!”
—on par with torture.
Kenya cursed Lord with all his might, gripping his fists as tears of blood nearly spilled from his eyes.
(Wh-What kind of cruel torture is this!? The Inquisition was far easier to endure!!)
If Lord knew that Kenya couldn’t and shouldn’t give in to that temptation—and still assigned him such an insanely sexy maid—then the trap had been perfectly laid.
“Is something the matter, Lord Sword?”
Sophie asked gently, sitting right beside the curled-up Kenya.
On the same bed.
“Looooooooord!!”
And so began Kenya’s true battle.
A lonely man’s war, rivaling even the conflict between the World Alliance and Asgard.
…
Irritated.
“I just felt a sudden wave of irritation. You too, Kaguya?”
“What a coincidence. So did I.”
