Chapter 265: Fun Shopping (3)
Tauro continued browsing inside Dragon Knight Armory.
Ragune’s relative explained the merchandise as Tauro moved through the shop.
A black plate cuirass soon caught his eye.
“What special features does this have?”
Tauro thought it might make good equipment for Ankh.
“That piece? It was remade from armor recovered after defeating a monster called Wandering Ghost Armor. Such remains are normally melted down as scrap, but this one already possessed the effect ‘Weight Reduction,’ so the craftsman preserved and rebuilt it. A socket on the inner chest can hold one of the processed magic stones currently popular in the dragonfolk village. That allows another effect to be added without losing the existing weight reduction. It truly is light—please try lifting it.”
At the clerk’s recommendation, Tauro picked up the heavy-looking cuirass with one hand.
Its appearance and actual weight were so different that the sensation felt strange.
“I’ll take this. Do you also have gauntlets and greaves in my size?”
Tauro didn’t hesitate to purchase the expensive cuirass as a gift for Ankh.
“A set made for a woman should fit you. What about this one? The material came from an unidentified item found in a dungeon treasure chest. It’s remarkably light and strong, although that also made it extremely difficult to work.”
The gray gauntlets and greaves looked plain, but they were indeed light and compared favorably with Tauro’s current leather equipment.
“What kind of item was the material originally?”
Tauro asked about its source.
“We don’t know. Dungeon chests occasionally contain objects whose purpose no one can identify. We buy unusable examples cheaply and repurpose them as materials.”
The clerk explained how the shop acquired such unusual stock.
So they were willing to work with unfamiliar materials as long as those materials could be used.
When Tauro examined the set with [True Eye], appraisal obstruction prevented any information from appearing.
It might have been made from the same kind of mysterious material as Artemis’s Bow. In any case, the workmanship was excellent.
Impressed by its lightness and strength, Tauro decided to purchase the set.
For his main purchase—leather armor—the clerk had recommended Rangas’s Blacksmith Shop. Tauro couldn’t help wondering why a blacksmith was being recommended for leatherwork, but he followed the directions to a street one block behind the main road.
There was no proper sign, but the sharp ringing of a hammer striking metal came from within.
Near the entrance, Tauro found a small nameplate with “Rangas’s Blacksmith Shop” scrawled across it.
The owner apparently had no interest whatsoever in advertising.
Inside, a surprising number of weapons were packed into the cramped storefront.
No clerk was present. Only the steady hammering from the rear workshop answered Tauro.
Like the dwarves Tauro already knew, this craftsman seemed far more interested in making goods than selling them.
Rangas…? Could he be related to that dwarf blacksmith?
“Excuse me! Is Angus—no, is Mr. Rangas here?”
Remembering the old blacksmith shop in Saisi, Tauro called toward the back.
“What is it? A customer? I’m not Angus. I’m his younger brother, Rangas.”
A dwarf peered out from the workshop.
He looks exactly like Mr. Angus… He really is Angus’s brother!
Tauro remembered Angus, the dwarf blacksmith who had helped him many times in Saisi, and marveled at how small the world could be.
“My name is Tauro. Mr. Angus helped me greatly in the past. I never expected to meet his younger brother here.”
“Were you my brother’s apprentice or something…? Wait—Tauro!? Are you the human prodigy who taught him how to forge a katana? Incredible! Hearing about you was what inspired me to leave on a training journey, and that journey eventually brought me here. I never imagined I would meet my brother’s master!”
Rangas burst into hearty laughter.
Even his laugh is exactly the same…!
The Rangas before him overlapped almost perfectly with Tauro’s memories of Angus.
“My brother has succeeded as a weaponsmith. I intend to master armor instead, but the only armor of mine that people praise is the leather equipment. Please, Master—would you share some of your wisdom with me?”
Rangas dropped to his knees and made an unreasonable request.
“Please stop! I only came here to buy that leather armor!”
Tauro panicked as his simple shopping trip took another bizarre turn.
