Chapter 6: Maybe Better Than The Barbarians

“Alright, I’m off.”

“Yeah, take care.”

“I think it’ll be fine, but still, be careful.”

As Alba, who asked Ishud to enroll in the academy, along with his wife Valeria and their attendants, sees Ishud off, there is no sign of Ishud’s siblings.

That’s because all of them are already heading towards monster subjugation.

Or perhaps, they are seeking strength to be able to shine on the battlefield and are undergoing training.

(Well, that’s just how our family is, isn’t it?)

Without particular dissatisfaction with the scene before him, Ishud heads towards the royal capital where the exams are being held, almost as if on a picnic.

“…It’s boring. How about we ride to the next town just to kill time?”

“Ishud-sama, aren’t we playing board games to pass the time?”

“Well, yeah, but… I’m getting a little bored.”

A few hours into the somewhat lengthy journey, there is really nothing to do.

Nobles’ carriages are like blocks of gold to bandits with a certain level of combat power.

However, the horses pulling the carriage Ishud is currently on are Battle Horses.

These are not ordinary horses but horse monsters.

Their rank is C, and they are certainly not weak. If a clumsy tank were to block them, their bones and shields would be shattered.

There are two of these monsters.

Moreover, the soldiers escorting the carriage all have robust bodies, and it’s clear that if they were attacked, they would turn the assailants into masses of flesh.

“Ha~~~~… The fact that you guys are too powerful is also a problem.”

“In that case, should we go and deal with bandits for fun whenever we find them?”

“………… Since there probably aren’t any around here anymore, let’s move to a more distant location if there are idiots like that.

“Understood.”

Naturally, having spent about fifteen years in the Regula family, Ishud has engaged in battles not only with monsters but also with humans such as bandits, killing several of them.

Initially, Ishud would vomit heavily after finishing a fight, but after that, he had no particular issues cutting down those scoundrels.

“Ishud-sama, it seems there are some suitable individuals nearby.”

“Alright then, let’s go.”

In just one more day, they would reach the royal capital.

After covering that much distance, Ishud gets off the carriage and, accompanied by a knight skilled in exploration, starts looking for the bandits.

“Ishud-sama, those over there are the bandits.”

“There seem to be about twenty. Considering the distance from the royal capital, it’s surprisingly many, isn’t it?”

“It might be.”

“I see… Well, the task remains the same. Break through the front.”

Utterly foolish.

Thanks to the highly skilled knights adept at exploration, the thieves haven’t noticed Ishud’s presence yet.

Since everyone has long-range attack capabilities, the plan is to initiate a long-range attack altogether and then eliminate the survivors.

It’s the orthodox method of subjugation, and there’s no reason not to choose that option.

Boldly charging in head-on would be the height of folly.

However, as a reincarnated individual, Ishud understands this without needing to be told.

Still… it’s evident that the opponents are clearly inferior to them, regardless of their levels, occupations, or owned skills.

“Enemy attack!!!”

One lookout shouts, and the news of the assault reaches the entire hideout.

Despite the thieves laughing and mocking Ishud’s group for their straightforward approach, they are generally subdued with a single blow.

“As expected… considering the people who have suffered at their hands until now, it’s not something I can say loudly. Are there no more lively ones among them?”

Muttering to himself with a bored expression, Ishud counters the attacking thieves. Each one meets their demise with severed heads, ruptured hearts, or crushed skulls.

“Ah, you demons!!!”

“Demons, huh… Well, what do you guys think? Isn’t it better than being called savage barbarians?”

“As an existence, they are subjects to be avoided, but if it’s just a name… ‘demon’ might be better.”

“Hahaha! Yeah, that makes sense. Anyway… we don’t really care if we’re demons to you guys or not.”

Just as Ishud finishes speaking, he starts moving. His right arm passes through the last surviving thief faster than they can raise both arms.

“Well, I’d still like to say that you shouldn’t throw around the word ‘demon’ unless you’re in the same line of work.”

“That’s true.”

After the annihilation was completed, it was confirmed that no one had been captured.

Ishud collects one corpse, burns the remaining bodies, and gathers any hoarded belongings.

He collects the accumulated wealth and, on the way to a nearby town, stops by the guild where adventurers are affiliated.

“This guy was the leader.”

He shows the severed head to a guild staff member with the Appraisal skill.

“I see. Indeed, I have verified it.”

“Well, that’s good. Then, you can do whatever you want with this.”

Saying so, Ishud takes out a large amount of coins and weapons from an item bag that seems to hold more than its appearance suggests.

“Um, those items belong to Ishud-sama and his party, who defeated the thieves and collected them.”

“Unfortunately, I don’t have a need for money. Please use this gold and weapons for the training of the adventurers.”

Ishud has no desire to line the pockets of the guild superiors with the money they’ve collected.

He has a certain fondness for those who fight monsters and thieves, knowing well that their financial situations are not particularly warm. His actions are meant to assist in their growth.

“But keep in mind… I’ll occasionally gather information, so be prepared.”

“Yes! We’ll use it wholeheartedly for training and development!”

By speaking with Ishud, it becomes clear that he is not someone to be called a savage from the frontier. However, his aura exudes the weight of a seasoned warrior who has survived on the battlefields of the frontier.

Other guild staff members have heard about the Regula family to some extent, so no foolhardy individual dared to think about pocketing some of the funds for themselves.

The next day, they arrive in the royal capital almost as planned.

“Is that the outer wall of the royal capital… It’s quite impressive.”

“Hehe, it’s understandable to have that impression when compared to the walls of a town ruled by the Regula family.”

One of the attendants couldn’t close their mouth when they saw the outer wall of the royal capital for the first time.

However, in Ishud’s case… he was thinking about how long it would take for the wall to crumble if he were to attack it.
