Chapter 45

"It's a bit tiring after all these expeditions. ......we’ve  finally arrived at the village.”

"Oh, I didn't expect the girl we saved from the monster hordes to be the daughter of the village chief.”

When we arrived at the village, Vigna and I were waiting for a call from Ein and the others who had taken the girl, saying they were going to go talk to her. Incidentally, Galatea was asked to search for monsters in the surrounding area.

Looking through the window of the steam car, we saw a village at the foot of a huge mine. Its scale is closer to a village than a town. It reminds me of Asgard not long ago, and I feel nostalgic.

Vigna frowns at such a thing in front of a field full of weeds, which must be unmanaged.

“Even so, the situation seems to be more difficult than I thought.”

“Oh, yeah..... some of the fields are a wasteland. Maybe they don't have enough people. That's why it's an opportunity. And you know what I mean."

Vigna said this in front of a weed-strewn field that was probably unmanaged. I was surprised to hear that she had become so knowledgeable as a knight of the Kingsguard. When I raised my voice in surprise, she blushed for some reason.

"Well, someone was always talking so loud at first, so I learned it even if I didn't like it.”

“Hmmm, you've been interested in me since then?”

"Of course, or I wouldn't have followed you to the frontier.”

“Eh? Oh, thank you..."

The unexpected counterattack makes me blush as well. She's a real charmer when it's just the two of us! She's so cute! While I'm thinking about this, Ein comes over to me.

"Grace-sama, we were asked to rest in this village tonight. Also, the village chief would like you pay him a visit, how would you like that?"

“Oh, thank you. I'll be on my way. Vigna, you'll escort me just in case.”

“Yes, leave it to me.”

I was originally going to rent a place to stay since I didn't want to stay out in the open, but I guess they put together a certain amount of talk. Maybe they had originally talked about us coming as reinforcements, too.

We parked the wagon and steam car where they wouldn’t disturb the village and ordered everyone to take a break.

When we entered the village, it seemed that people and dwarves were really living together. They looked at us as if we were a curiosity. Especially the dwarves seemed to be interested in the steam car. They are staring at us from afar.

And above all ...... dwarf women are......

“You're probably thinking they have big boobs, right? Vulgar."

“No, I can't help it! I wasn’t thinking that way!”

I refute Vigna's words, dripping with cold sweat. But, I don't have a choice, do I? I look at the dwarf girls with disproportionately large breasts for their short stature and blurt out. 

“Hey, guys! Let's go to the bar. We can drink Dwarven fire wine here.”

“Really? I'd love to go there!”

With Gimli's lively voice, Neil and the other expedition members followed. 

The fire wine is a strong liquor that burns when it’s set on fire. I mean, what kind of booze can start a fire? I'm sure they're crazy. Bowman said the strength is irresistible......

“Guys, don't take it too hard - you don't want to get a hangover.”

“Of course. If you want, you can come over later, Grace-sama. There's some kind of restaurant where dwarven girls serve you ...... yay ......."

He seemed to notice Vigna glaring at him with a tremendous killing intent and quickly ran away. Hey, what are you going to do about this atmosphere......

“Let’s go Grace. Ein is waiting for you right?”

“Oh, yeah.....”

“I'm not so small either.....”

“Hmmm? Did you say something?”

“Nothing."

One the way to the village chief’s house, I’m escorted by a slightly grumpy looking Vigna. The atmosphere of the village was somewhat heavy as we walked around. The people we pass by seem lifeless.

As I was thinking this, I was approached by a pale, 10-year-old Dwarf girl who said to me. 

"Hey.... onii-chan, are you a soldier? I'd like you to give me something, if you don't mind?"

"Oh, you're hungry? You can eat this."

I stopped Vigna who tried to stop me and gave her the cookies that Noel and Noah had made. Kids like sweet things.

Then I wait until the little girl, who is munching away at a great rate, finishes eating before I speak to her.

“Is this village in need of something to eat?”

“It wasn't so in the past, but now that the men have been taken to the mines, things are a lot harder.”

“Well..... it's been tough. But I'm sure things will get better soon."

I encourage the girl and head for the village chief's house. Helping Dwell isn't necessarily just about fighting or anything else. It's worth it to bring a lot of that stuff too.

I chuckled so that people around me wouldn't know.
