Chapter 35

In the conference room I was confronted by Gimli, a dwarf in his late thirties who looked bored, and Ain, a nervous-looking girl with glasses who was listening attentively. These two are adventurers from Dwell who can use magic.

Galatea is standing by outside the door, so if anything should happen, she will be able to respond immediately.

“I would like you to work for us for at least half a year under these conditions. The main tasks will be to teach the guards of our territory how to fight in caves and other confined spaces and to operate golems and magical tools in the territory. The rest of the time, you'll be supporting us on our dwell expedition."

"What do you think of that, Ain......? I'm not good at thinking.”

After the explanation, the dwarf bites back a yawn to stifle his sleepiness. Instead, the girl opens her mouth.

“Leave it to me Master. The amount of reward is better than I expected. Although the time restraints are long...... I'd like to confirm that in Dwell, we're only guiding you and minimal participation in the battle is fine, right?"

“Yes, of course. But if you get good results in the battle, I will consider paying you an additional reward for that.”

“I see.... Master, I don't think there will be any problem accepting this job. The lord has a good reputation among the merchants...... And you also wanted to see what was going on in Dwell.”

"Oh...... I'm glad you agree. We’re having a banquet tonight in the name of welcoming you and other newcomers. You two are free, so don't hesitate to enjoy the food and drink of our territory.”

They're so direct in front of the client himself...... Are all adventurers like this?

"Sake! And for free! You're a big man, aren’t you?”

Gimli was the first to react to my words. He exclaimed happily and stood up. Dwarves like to drink. If this can make them feel positive about their work, then all the better.

“I'll be going now.”

“Wait a minute, Master. The contract hasn't been signed yet and there's still time before the party, right?"

“The contract can wait, Galatea! Show them the way."

“I understand, Master. This way, both of you.”

I raised my voice and Galatea opened the door and bowed as if she had been waiting for me. Then Ain rushes to stand up to follow Gimli.

And before leaving the room, Gimli turned around and said as if he had just remembered.

"There's a dwarf named Bowman here, isn't there? You know, maybe you could set up a time for us to have a drink?”

“I don't mind, but do you know Bowman......?”

"Yeah, I know him a little. I'm looking forward to it.”

With that, they followed Galatea. I heard that many dwarves have moved from Dwell to the surrounding countries. Would they be reminiscing?

Just as I was thinking that, a knock sounded.

“Grace-sama, I heard that the Teacher will be here soon. Will you come with me?”

“I have an appointment with him. I've just finished my business here. I'll be ready to leave immediately.”

And at the sound of Noah's voice, I prepared to go out to deal with another guest.

“It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Ys, Noah's teacher. I am very happy to meet you today. I apologize for being selfish and asking you to show me around.”

“I am Grace Vermilion, lord of this Asgardian territory. Pleased to meet you!”

“It has been a long time, Teacher. I am glad to see you are well.”

The woman waiting for me on the outskirts of town was about 50 years old. She was neatly dressed and even from the corner of my eye, I could see that she had been well brought up.

When she noticed us, she smiled and bowed her head. Then she pats Noah's golem bird that flew to her lovingly.

As one of the conditions of her coming to Asgard, she asked to be guided by the lord himself.

“I thought Noah was having a hard time in an unfamiliar place, but from the looks of it, I'm glad to see she's enjoying herself. It seems that Grace-sama is willing to allow Noah to create golems.”

“Yes, her golems have always helped me, and above all, she’s very lively.”

“Yes, Grace-sama is very kind and he even agreed to organize a golem race! I hope one day you’ll see it.”

“You said you wanted to do it since you were a child. I'm looking forward to seeing your dream come true.”

I don't remember giving my consent to the project, but I'm looking forward to seeing it come true. ...... I lead Ys-san in front of the steam car.

“Is this the steam car Noah was talking about?”

“Yes, this is how you get around without a horse. It takes some getting used to before you can  drive it......"

“It's amazing how something this big can move without magic.”

Noah and I explain to the astonished Ys-san in a bit of a smug manner. With her in tow, I lead her on a guided tour of the Asgardian lands.

I don't know why she wanted me to show her around, but I hope she likes Asgard.
