Chapter 38: New Magic Circles, Part 2

"As I mentioned earlier, there are three magic circles that are at the level where we can use them to create magic tools right away. One of them uses a fire magic stone, and the other two use earth magic stones."

"I see. It's unusual to have magic tools using earth magic stones."

"Is that so?"

"Yes, unusual is the word, but more precisely, they are uncommon for everyday use."

As Selfers pointed out, there aren't too many magic tools for everyday use that involve earth magic stones. Earth magic, as the name suggests, pertains to magic that generates or manipulates earth, sand, and stones. Everyday situations that involve using earth or stones are rather rare. This seemed to be the case in the ancient era as well, and not many magic tools for everyday use have been discovered. Instead, there are numerous military and governmental applications, and when it comes to earth magic tools, they are generally associated with such purposes.

One of the most well-known and useful earth magic tools is the one that reinforces walls made of earth or stone. Unfortunately, the strengthening effect is not permanent, so regular maintenance is required. Nevertheless, depending on whether it is used or not, the strength of structures like forts, towns, and the exterior walls of castles can be entirely different, making it an essential tool.

Klauffendam's outer walls are also reinforced using this magic tool.

There are two types of these tools: those that maintain strength by continuously flowing weak magic and those that provide a temporary boost that lasts about ten days. In terms of efficiency, the latter is better, but when it comes to large areas that are difficult to maintain, like castles or forts, the former is preferred. For personal use, there are smaller magic tools that can strengthen metals, and these are often integrated into the armor of high-ranking adventurers and knights, serving as magic armor.

"I see... So, one of the magic circles is for public use, and the other is for personal use?"

"Exactly, the one for public use generates stones. Since I haven't actually tested it, I don't know what kind of stones it can create, but I can set some parameters, so it can probably generate stones within a certain range."

Isamu didn't find any issues with this specification since he didn't need to set any parameters to "create stones," but others seemed to feel differently.

"Wait a minute! Is that for real? I've heard of magic tools that produce bricks, sand, and such, but I've never heard of one that lets you create stones according to your preferences!"

Eto shouted loudly, speaking on behalf of everyone.

"Yes, it's true. But since I'm not sure what changes when I alter the numbers, I'd like to conduct experiments quickly."

"Hehe, it's both exciting and scary to think about the results... So, what about the personal-use one?"

"The personal-use one is simple but quite valuable. It enhances the sharpness of cutting tools and maintains that sharpness. I don't know how much it increases the sharpness or how long it maintains it, though..."

"...That's... more than just valuable, I'd say it's a huge hit, isn't it?"

"Do you really think so?"

"Yes, I do. While the one for creating stones may not be kept secret, this one is definitely something that should be confidential for now. But if it can be put in the hands of the command, it will become an immensely powerful weapon. It's reassuring for Isamu-sama and for protecting his territory."

"That's right. We should prioritize the practical application of this magic circle."

Isamu had already sensed that this was something quite significant, and it seemed he was correct.

"It's a good time to let Isamu-dono know... I think I mentioned it briefly when we used old magic, but the usefulness of Isamu-dono’s ability skill is immeasurable. If that were to become known, it would lead to a worldwide struggle... Of course, that's not necessarily a bad thing in itself. It means that Isamu-dono’s power has been recognized. However, not everyone who desires him will be good people. No, those who are specifically trying to acquire him are more likely not to be good. We are not good people either, putting our own interests above all else. However, we have no intention of forcibly using Isamu-dono for our own benefit. Please believe in that."

"Yes, of course, I trust you. Besides, even when you picked me up without knowing what kind of ability skill I had, I was already trusting you."

"Haha, thank you. I'm glad you trust us. Nevertheless, if we want to do something with that ability skill, we can't hide its existence forever. Well, it would be fine if we didn't want to use the ability skill and just lived without it, but I don't think Isamu-dono would want that, right?"

"Yes, that's right... I do want to do something with my ability skill. Well, not just 'something,' but I want to repay everyone who kindly picked me up here, not knowing anything about me, using my ability skill."

"Isamu-san..."

"Hehe, you say such kind words to a poor viscount. Well, in that case, when the time comes for your ability skill to be revealed, we'll need to discuss what to do. We were worried but Annemarie said it was easy.”

“That’s right.”

In other words, the key is to make them think that it's not easy to take us down and that they can't act recklessly. To achieve that, we'll use Lord Isamu's abilities and skills as our weapon."

Selfers spoke all of this in one go, then fixed his gaze on Isamu.

"If we were just trying to deceive you with fine words, would the saying 'quid pro quo' apply? But in reality, it's not that great. I just want to make use of your power. Knowing that, Isamu-dono, are you willing to lend your power?"

"Yes, of course."

Isamu responded with a smile.

"As I mentioned earlier, I owe a great debt for being picked up. If I hadn't realized how useful my ability skill was at first, it would have been a disaster. Thanks to that, I was able to come to this wonderful place! Oh, if we're talking about getting stronger, these magic circles we have this time are indeed a huge success. I was avoiding thinking too much about things that might be linked to combat or weapons. But if that's the case, from now on, I'll consider making magic tools with potential applications for weapons and armor. Let's get stronger together!"

"I see. Together, huh... Thank you. I'll count on you from now on."

"Of course! Now, if that's the case, we should hurry up with the prototypes of these magic circles. There seem to be various other uses for them... Oh, by the way, the other fire magic circle is for creating fire. However, it seems that you can adjust the intensity of the flames, so it might be quite versatile depending on how it's used. In any case, we'll keep making various magic tools!"

Selfers had felt that he had a rather serious conversation, but the person in question didn’t seem to care. Isamu seemed to have forgotten all about it. 

Isamu enthusiastically discussed the kinds of magic tools he could make with Eto.
