Chapter 8: The Beautiful Sisters Are in Trouble

Cedric and the Rosemary sisters, two sons of the baron, continued deeper and deeper into the forest.

As they ventured into the forest, the trees became denser and the surroundings grew darker.

This area was untouched by woodcutters and hunters, allowing plants to grow freely.

A hair-raising scream echoed through the forest.

The trees shook, and a heavy sound reverberated through the ground.

"Hii!? What's happening!?"

Suddenly, Cedric, who was about to deliver the final blow, fell on his back.

His two friends also collapsed in a similar manner.

"Nee-san, help!"

"Primula! Come over here quickly!"

Viola, leading Primula, tried to escape the scene.

But before the sisters could run away, trees were toppled, and 'it' arrived.

"Grrrrrr!"

"Ah...!"

It was a silver-coated wolf.

Much larger than the one Cedric had defeated, it was the size of an elephant.

Its golden eyes, like a full moon, caught the fleeing sisters, freezing them in place.

"W-White Fenrir...!"

Viola muttered the name with a trembling voice.

It was the name of a monster that was supposed to inhabit colder regions further north.

Known as a powerful monster that even veteran adventurer parties or royal court magicians would struggle to defeat, the White Fenrir was renowned for its intelligence and ferocity.

What Cedric had defeated was a young White Fenrir.

Even in its juvenile form, it was about the size of an ordinary wolf, so Cedric didn't realize it was a child.

Faced with an unimaginable monster, Cedric panicked and tried to escape. In this situation, it was a reckless decision.

The White Fenrir swiftly kicked the ground, lunging at Cedric and kicking him with its foreleg.

Cedric, sent flying like a ball, collided with a thick tree trunk. He slid down to the ground, losing consciousness.

"Cedric-san!"

The two boys screamed together as the foreleg swung again, slamming them into the decomposed soil.

"Nee-san, what should we do? At this rate, we...!"

"Stay calm, Primula. We'll be fine...!"

White Fenrir, normally a monster residing in much colder regions to the north, was observed more closely. It was dragging its hind leg and seemed to have various injuries. Probably, they had fought enemies in the north, lost, and fled south.

"While White Fenrir is fierce, I read in a book that they are very intelligent and can understand human speech. It seems injured, so it might spare us."

"Grrrr!"

White Fenrir stared at the sisters with its golden eyes. Although it growled and intimidated, it didn't immediately attack.

"I'm sorry for hurting your child. We didn't mean to do that. We'll leave now and won't harm you or your child. So... will you let us go?"

"..."

After observing the sisters for a while, White Fenrir eventually raised its massive fangs overhead.

"Gooooh!"

"Hii!"

The sisters huddled together and sat down. They couldn't even muster the consciousness to run away. The intimidation of a predator had rendered them motionless.

"Primula..."

"Nee-san..."

Calling each other's names, the trembling sisters embraced each other. They couldn't fight or flee, paralyzed by the looming threat of White Fenrir.

White Fenrir approached them slowly, ready to crush them with its huge jaws.

"What...?"

However, a powerful blow struck the side of White Fenrir's face, and its massive body tumbled to the side.

The sisters, wide-eyed with surprise, turned to the direction from which the magic had come.

"Oh well... it can't be helped. My foolish brother, really..."

Emerging from the thicket of the forest was a boy of the same age as the sisters.

Black hair and black eyes, wearing slightly dirty clothes but with well-defined features.

"Cedric caused trouble again, sorry about that. You don't need to worry anymore; everything's fine."

Saying so, the boy—Rest—smiled kindly at the sisters.
