Chapter 71: Burning with Anger in the Mock Battle

The first session of the “Swordsmanship” class.

One by one, students from the magic division were being knocked down by those from the knight division.

Each time, Rest provided first aid to the injured students.

“Hey, Rest. Are you sure your magic power is okay?”

Rest’s friend, Ruido, asked with concern.

“No problem. I’m confident in my magic power reserves, so don’t worry about me.”

Despite already providing first aid to over ten students, Rest’s infinite magic power seemed to show no signs of depletion. If anything, his endurance was nearing its limit.

“Anyway… Those knight division guys really went too far. What could the magic division have possibly done to deserve this?”

Watching their classmates being beaten one after another, Rest’s patience was wearing thin. It was becoming increasingly difficult for him to restrain himself from accidentally casting magic.

“Yeah… I’ve heard that some students in the knight division have a complex about the magic division, but I never imagined it would be to this extent.”

Ruido agreed with an angry expression.

Among the knight division students, there were those who harbored a complex towards students from the magic division. Many of those who aimed to become frontline warriors like knights and fighters had low magic power reserves and couldn’t make it as magic users. People born with high magic power tended to pursue the path of a mage. Therefore, the knight division students often had a sense of being “people who couldn’t become magic users” and held deep-seated resentment towards the magic division.

Of course, not everyone felt this way. There were also individuals who, despite having high magic power, chose to pursue the path of a knight. Many enjoyed wielding swords and spears and didn’t harbor any complexes about being magic users.

(But… it seems this instructor Oddman is different.)

Rest thought to himself.

“Alright, next up is Bedry from the knight division and Ruido Gistal from the magic division. Step forward.”

“It’s my turn… I’ll get my revenge, so watch me.”

Ruido’s eyes blazed with determination as he headed towards the field.

Facing off against a knight division student with a wooden sword in hand, Ruido physique wasn’t as poor as that of a bean sprout, but the distribution of muscle mass in his limbs was clearly inferior to that of the knight division students.

(Without magic, he’s at a complete disadvantage… What’s he planning to do?)

Rest wondered.

“Begin the match!”

“Hyah!”

As the match started, Ruido moved. Unexpectedly, he threw the wooden sword he had been holding in his hand.

“What the…!”

The knight division student seemed taken aback by this unexpected move and hurriedly raised his guard to protect his face.

“[Physical Enhancement]!”

Then, Ruido kicked off the ground and ran forward. Taking advantage of the restricted field of view due to the guard, he circled behind the knight division student and put him in a chokehold.

“Guh…! Let go…!”

“There’s no way I’m letting go! Don’t get cocky!”

Enhancing his body with magic, Ruido wrapped both legs around the knight division student’s torso and clung to him with all his might. Despite the difference in physique and strength, when it came to the accuracy of magic, the magic division students were superior. Unable to break free from Ruido’s grip, the knight division student eventually collapsed backward, unconscious.

“…Match over.”

Oddman announced the end of the match with a dissatisfied expression. As Ruido released his opponent’s body with a sigh.

“Whew, that was close. It was a narrow victory.”

“I don’t know… Didn’t you win pretty comfortably?”

“Not really. That guy scratched my arm… I was worried about when he would manage to break free.”

Looking closely, Ruido’s arm had scratches with blood seeping out. After Rest cast a healing spell, the wounds disappeared without a trace.

“Thanks, I owe you one.”

“No problem… It’s the first victory for magic division students.”

With over ten classmates already defeated, this was the magic division’s first victory.

“Alright then….”

“I’m up next.”

Stepping forward was Yuri Katreya, who had been taking care of the injured students.

“It seems they’re calling us up by attendance number, so it’s my turn, right?”

“Uh, are you sure you’re okay, Yuri?”

“Yeah, I’m fine.”

Surprisingly, Yuri had a smile on her face. Rest had thought she might be burning with righteous indignation at seeing her classmates being beaten, but come to think of it, she hadn’t shown much reaction even as other students were being knocked down.

“If I’m strong, I’ll win. If I’m weak, I’ll lose… That’s all there is to it. It’s not like we’re exchanging our lives, so there’s no need to worry.”

Yuri said calmly as she picked up the wooden sword.

Despite her cheerful and innocent demeanor, she seemed to have a surprisingly tough mindset.

(Come to think of it, she’s the daughter of the knight captain… She might have a rather strict attitude towards competition…)

Perhaps she thought that since it’s the world of competition, there’s nothing to be done about her classmates from the magic division being defeated.

Rest felt like he had glimpsed a new side of his friend as he watched her go.

“Hey, Lubase…”

“Hm…?”

Meanwhile, Oddman beckoned one of the knight division students over and whispered something to him in a low voice.

What could he be saying…? Rest subtly activated his magic and strained his ears to listen.

“Make sure you win the next match.”

“That person told me not to let her hold a sword…”

“But don’t injure her. Absolutely not!”

“…?”

It was a strange instruction.

While it was clear they were to win at all costs, what could be the intention behind not letting her hold a sword or causing injury?

(Come to think of it… There are many former members of the knight order among the instructors of the knight division.)

They referred to someone as “that person,” so perhaps it’s related to Marquis Katreya, who is the head of the knight order.

(Is it related to Yuri running away from home…? No, it’s probably impossible to figure out.)

It’s a matter of someone else’s family circumstances. There’s no point in thinking about it.

Rather than that… let’s just watch and see what the outcome of the match will be.
