Chapter 60: Reunion with Yuri

Despite the minor commotion during the entrance ceremony, the event concluded, and the students moved to their respective classrooms.

The Royal Academy, organized into three grades, had separate buildings for each of the five disciplines. Rest and the sisters were assigned to Class A, one of the four classes labeled A to D.

Class assignments were determined by exam scores, with the highest-scoring students being placed in Class A. Maintaining Class A required continuous effort, as there were class changes after each semester’s exams.

(Whether I’m in Class A or D will significantly impact my future after graduation… I must strive not to bring shame to the Rosemary Marquis family.)

Currently engaged to the Rosemary Marquis family, Rest contemplated his future. If, for some reason, he were to fall to Class D, it might bring shame to the Marquis family.

(As for my future after graduation, it’s probably best to become a court magician. Although following in my father’s footsteps is irksome, the Rosemary Marquis family is known for its lineage of magicians. I should maintain the position of marrying into a distinguished family and become a court magician.)

“Oh, this way to our classroom.”

Primula guided Rest, leading him to the second floor of the Magic Department’s building—the classroom for first-year Class A.

“The seats are open. Let’s sit closer to the front.”

Viola pointed out an available seat. Rest and the Rosemary sisters sat together, just as they did during the entrance ceremony.

“Phew… But really, what was that during the entrance ceremony?”

“That… someone cast magic, it seems. Targeting Celestine-sama.”

The topic that comes up between the them is what happened at the entrance ceremony.

Celestine Crocus, who was giving a speech as head student of the magic department on stage, was attacked by magic.

Even though it was non-lethal magic, isn’t this still a problem?

Since there were guests and they couldn’t stop the ceremony in the middle, there was no pursuit of the culprit, but… it was important when the target was the daughter of a duke.

“That mud magic, right? Did Rest-sama defend against it?”

Primula inquired in a hushed voice.

“Oh… you noticed, huh?”

“Yes, it seems so. Except for Primula and me, I think no one else realized.”

Primula and Viola seemed to have noticed Rest’s involvement.

“It’s an overestimation. Even if I did nothing, the principal would have protected her.”

While Rest had ultimately intercepted the mud projectile, the principal had also activated a defense wall simultaneously, safeguarding Celestine. There was no need to do anything from the beginning.

“The fact that you can do the same as the principal is already amazing… The principal is like a sage, after all.”

“Other teachers in the Magic Department couldn’t do anything… Rest-sama, you’re amazing.”

“Mu…”

Receiving praise from the sisters, Rest felt a bit embarrassed.

“Ah! There he is!”

However, at that moment, a voice rang out from the classroom entrance.

“Rest-kun, right? We’re in the same class! It’s great to see you again!”

Running joyfully, a lively red-haired girl approached. It was Yuri Catreya, the daughter of the Knight Commander.

“You also passed the entrance exam! I’m so happy we get to meet again!”

“Uh… well, Catreya-san…”

“Just call me Yuri! We’re friends now!”

What kind of friends? They were merely classmates who took the entrance exam together.

“Um… Yuri-san…”

“Just Yuri is fine. I’ll call you Rest!”

“Yeah… sure…”

“Rest, who is this person?”

“Rest-sama, who is she?”

Both Viola and Primula joined the conversation, their smiles contrasting with the chill that ran down Rest’s spine.

“Oh… haven’t I mentioned before? This is Yuri Catreya-san, who I met during the entrance exam.”

“Are these two your friends, Rest?”

” “We’re his fiancées.” “

Viola and Primula firmly asserted in unison.

Upon hearing these words, Yuri initially looked surprised, but soon her expression brightened, and she burst into laughter.

“Having such beautiful fiancées is truly fitting for Rest! You have a good eye for sure!”

“Mm…”

Observing Yuri’s reaction, the sisters exchanged glances. Based on her response, it seemed Yuri didn’t harbor romantic feelings towards Rest.

“Sorry for being rude… My name is Viola Rosemary. This is my sister, Primula.”

“I’m Primula. We’ll be classmates from now on, so nice to meet you.”

After Viola and Primula introduced themselves again, Yuri cheerfully extended her hand for a handshake.

“I’m Yuri. By the way… Rosemary, could you be from the Rosemary Marquis family, the Chief Court Magician family?”

“Yes, Marquis Rosemary is our father.”

“Yuri-san is from the Catreya Marquis family, right? The Knight Commander’s.”

As the sisters shook Yuri’s hand, they inquired.

Yuri, with an awkward expression, avoided eye contact.

“Well, you could say… um, it’s not that simple. I’m attending the academy as a commoner, so please don’t mind the surname.”

“”…””

With Yuri’s somewhat awkward explanation, the sisters exchanged a glance that seemed to say, “If you didn’t want to say it, you shouldn’t have.”

“Nice to meet you. I’m really happy. After making friends with Rest, now I’ve got two more… I feel like I can change at this academy.”

Joyfully shaking hands, Yuri swung her hands up and down. From her words, it seemed there might be some circumstances behind her.

“All three of you, let’s get along from now on!”

“…”

In response to Yuri’s beaming smile, Rest and the sisters nodded with subtle expressions.
