Chapter 15: The Rosemary Parent and Child Quarrel

Moving from the garden to the training ground within the Marquis's estate, Rest and the butler stood facing each other in a circular open space. The parent and child trio watched the battle from a little distance.

On one side stood Rest, the young boy who was Viola and Primula's lifesaver and the target of their budding affections. On the other side was the butler working for the Rosemary Marquis family, a man named Dible. He was a master of magic and an excellent warrior, one of the finest in the Marquis's forces.

Although the two were about to engage in a battle, it was quite obvious that the butler would win. Regardless of how strong Rest might be, he was only a fifteen-year-old boy with inferior combat experience and abilities.

"Father! What are you thinking!?"

"This is too much, Father!"

Viola and Primula confronted their father, expressing their anger at his unreasonable demand.

"Why would you be so cruel to Rest-kun! Depending on your answer, we might not forgive you!"

"Unforgivable... even if it's Father...!"

"Calm down, both of you! I'll explain properly!"

Albert Rosemary, the head of the Rosemary Marquis family and supposed Chief Court Magician, trembled as he faced the unprecedented anger of his beloved daughters.

For Albert, a father (or so he thinks) who is trusted by his daughter, this is the first time he has experienced such anger from his daughters.

"Listen, this is necessary! As the head of the Rosemary family, I must assess his capabilities!"

Albert frantically tries to explain himself to the girls, who look angrier than ever.

Albert wasn't deliberately being cruel by making Rest engage in a mock battle. This was genuinely required.

Firstly, the Royal Academy was a facility designed to cultivate individuals involved in the country's administration, such as royals, nobles, knights, and bureaucrats. Initially, commoners couldn't enroll, but later the gates were opened, allowing commoners to enter if recommended by someone influential. If recommended by a noble, the person would be considered a member of that noble's 'house.'

In practice, Albert himself, during his student days, had recommended a similarly-aged vassal, allowing them to enroll as an attendant.

"It's not about emotions. If he is to receive our recommendation, he must demonstrate suitable strength."

It wasn't a matter of mixing personal feelings with professional ones. Albert wasn't jealous as a father for the special attention his daughters gave Rest. It wasn't a request for a mock battle out of cruelty.

"However..."

"But..."

"I didn't say he had to win! I just want to see if he has enough strength for our family's recommendation. If someone recommended by the Rosemary Marquis family were to fail the entrance exam, it would damage our family's prestige."

Albert urged the dissatisfied girl in a strong tone.

"First and foremost, that butler is one of our household's top talents. He's a former court mage who retired and now serves our family. Even if he can use magic, there's no way he could lose to a child."

It's not about telling him not to lose. If he can put up a good fight, Albert would be delighted to recommend Rest.

"If he has the power to repel the White Fenrir, there's no need to worry. I'm sure he'll achieve a fitting result..."

In the midst of their conversation, a heavy thud echoed. Albert was surprised, and when the Rosemary sisters turned their gaze, they saw their trusted butler lying on the ground.

"Gu...uh..."

"Shall we consider this my victory?"

"Not yet... I cannot show disgraceful behavior in front of my master."

"Then, shall we continue?"

"Yes, please...!"

The butler energetically leaped forward, and Rest intercepted him. The Rosemary parent and child watched in astonishment as the intensifying battle unfolded.

"Unbelievable... for Dible to struggle. Who is that boy?"

"As expected, he's strong...!"

"Rest-kun, amazing...!"

The Rosemary parent and child were dumbfounded, captivated by the fierce fight between the two.
