Chapter 28: Royal Capital "Melkid"

―― Royal Capital “Melkid”

We're in Melkid, the royal capital of the Melkid Kingdom, a human-dominated country.

It's on the way to the capital of the Dwarf Kingdom, Gonhirrim.

Of course, we are wanted in this capital city too. We are bona fide fugitives and bounty targets. Why are we able to live here normally?

The reason is that wanted posters in this world don't have sketches.

When entering towns and villages, it is mandatory to present identification or adventurer cards. They are also used for receiving and making payments in gold. If the use of identification and adventurer cards is monitored, eventually we would be caught.

Since they are made of magical tools, it is impossible to forge or use someone else's card. That's why unreliable things like sketches are not used.

If it were any adventurer other than me, they would be caught using that method.

I used the "Tampering" skill to change the name written on the adventurer card. And I disguised the rest of the content with the "spoofing" skill. With this, we managed to slip through the surveillance.

By the way, my occupation is disguised as a "Blacksmith," and Mia is disguised as

'technician'.

It's a cover story to avoid suspicion while heading to the Dwarven Kingdom.

However, we couldn't stop by any villages or towns near Bercely. There is a possibility that someone who knows our faces might find us.

We were mentally and physically exhausted, but we continued on a road with no path.

If it weren't for the "Wall of the Heart" accessories, we would have surely died in the wilderness.

After some time, we luckily found a small village far away from Barcery. From there, we slowly healed our minds and bodies as we made our way to the capital city.

Two months have passed since we left the town of Barcery. My level has increased to "22," and Mia's level is now "21."

The purpose of stopping by this capital city is to gather information.

There are four pieces of information we want.

The first is a map of this world.

The second is about the "Shirakami Dungeon," where the Dwarven Kingdom's capital city, Gonhirrim, is located.

The third is the means of transportation to the "Shirakami Dungeon."

The fourth is... about the "resurrection" in this world.

When we faced the deaths of Kukuto and Marle, we were thinking based on common sense from our original world. We assumed that even in this world, the dead cannot be resurrected.

But is that really the case? What do we actually know about this world?

Maybe it's possible to easily revive through magic.

The hope born from this doubt saved us from the feeling of despair.

It became the driving force to continue our journey.

With Mia's "Deformation" skill, if we experiment and try various methods, there might be a possibility of resurrection. However, if we fail in our trials, it is highly likely that we won't be able to resurrect them again, making it a last resort.

Regarding this, I have something I am hoping for. There are Elves here. Surely, there are big leaves from a large tree as well.

In this capital city, there is a national library. It seems that anyone can read anything except banned books by paying money.

First, we will gather information there.

――On the way to the library

At an intersection just a short distance away from the library, we were waiting for a carriage to pass by. As I pondered about my schedule for the day, a 5-year-old girl suddenly came running from behind and darted onto the road.

Huh?

I was caught so off guard that  I couldn't move. This is bad! She'll be trampled by the horse.

At that moment, Mia leaped forward and shielded the child in her arms. The coachman of the carriage noticed Mia and made an abrupt stop. However, the horse's hooves were about to trample Mia without enough time.

――But immediately, the  ‘Heart Wall’ barrier was activated at a short distance from Mia, and the horse's leg was flipped.

I approach Mia and asked,

"Are you okay?"

"Yes, I’m fine"

Mia let the child down and asked, "Are you hurt? It's not good to suddenly run out like that."

From what I could see, the child didn't seem to be injured.

A woman's voice came from behind, calling out, "Anna! Are you okay, Anna?"

"Mama, Mama. I was scared."

Seeing her mother's face, the child ran toward her, crying.

The mother embraced her child and had a relieved and happy expression on her face.

"――Is everyone okay? Any injuries?"

Before I knew it,  two men and women had gotten off the carriage.

They had blond hair and were incredibly attractive, appearing to be in their mid-twenties.

A mysterious vitality overflowed from their entire beings, captivating everyone's attention.

No way, no way, this is the highest class of yo-kai!

Seeing the two of them, the mother lowered her head deeply.

“‘Sword Saint’-sama, I apologize deeply. This person here helped my daughter."

"Sword Saint? Ah, it's the Sword Saint!"

"Kyaa, it's the Sword Saint!"

"There's the princess too!"

Huh? What's going on? Who are these two? Are they famous?

More and more people gathered around.

"We don't want to be a bother to everyone. Please, let us express our gratitude. Come, get on the carriage."

The man called the Sword Saint invited us to the carriage with a refreshing smile.

Ah, we actually have some business to attend to, so it's fine.

"You guys are Otherworlders, right? I'm also an Otherworlder. This must be fate. Let me show my gratitude. Come on, get on. Get on!"

While thinking about the word "Otherworlder", we were half-forced onto the carriage.

Outside the carriage, there were crowds of people.

It's impossible to escape from here.

There's a risk of hurting the townspeople.

As a precaution, I sent a signal to Mia to be on guard.

There's a possibility that they saw the barrier.

When the carriage departed, cheers could be heard from all around.

The popularity of these two was incredible.

"Sorry for surprising you. My name is Arthur Williams. And the one next to me is Mary Williams. As you can tell from our names, we're siblings."

"I'm Takuma, and this is Mio. We're a party of two."
