Chapter 38: The Second Heroine Meets the Protagonist

A few days had passed since Lilina awakened, and we had spent our time in the forest hunting high-level monsters.

Lilina’s growth was remarkable; if I let my guard down, I felt she could easily surpass me.

I couldn’t afford to be complacent, so I kept up my efforts to defeat monsters. However, it seemed we needed to head back to town soon.

“Alright. Let’s head back to town for now.”

I said after checking the food supplies in my bag. Lilina tilted her head in surprise.

“Huh? Are we done already?”

“Yeah. There’s no way we can handle everything in just a few days.”

I wasn’t sure how many monsters Kane and his group had summoned into the forest, but it was clear that a few days of hunting wouldn’t be enough to solve the problem.

We had already taken down quite a number of monsters, so I thought it might be a good idea to observe the situation for a while.

If we were lucky, the stronger monsters might even take each other out.

“Besides, Remi might have managed to persuade Kane and his group.”

I said with a wry smile, not really believing it myself.

If it were that easy to convince them, they wouldn’t have asked a disliked guy like me to subjugate the monsters in the first place.

“Hmph. Do you really think those unpleasant people could be persuaded? They seem more likely to just throw a tantrum.”

Lilina muttered beside me, slightly pouting.

…Yeah. I had a feeling she might be right.

So, checking on Kane and his group was just a secondary reason.

“Also, I want to bring the monster materials back to town. We can’t carry any more.”

“True. If that’s the case, I agree!”

Lilina nodded, and seeing her agreement, I hefted my heavy pack and started descending the forest with her.

“As soon as we get back, let’s head to the adventurer’s guild to sell the materials… Hm? What’s that?”

“There are so many people.”

As we returned from the forest, we noticed a crowd near the entrance of the town.

They seemed to be watching something, but their expressions were grim.

Some people even averted their eyes or ground their teeth.

What on earth were they looking at?

As we approached the crowd to enter the town, people noticed me and started making way.

The fearful looks they gave me were a stark reminder of how much Lloyd was disliked.

But then, I noticed their gaze quickly shifted from me to the center of the crowd.

Wait, they weren’t afraid of me?

As I walked past the crowd, I was left speechless by the scene before me.

“Huh?”

Several people dressed in white and green lay wounded on the ground, groaning in pain.

And nearby stood Kane, the protagonist of this anime, along with the members of the “Dragon King’s Flame” party.

Kane snorted and then burst into uncontrollable laughter.

“Hahaha! Elven elites, my foot! Just a bunch of useless weaklings!”

Kane mocked, his party members laughing loudly in agreement.

Kane then sneered at the wounded people on the ground, tossing a sinister-looking collar towards them.

“Come on, losers. You’re supposed to obey, right? Put this on and follow me.”

A girl tried to rise in response to Kane’s command, but she collapsed back to the ground, unable to stand.

I recognized her face. She had slender golden hair and slightly elongated ears, characteristic of an elf. Despite her age, she exuded a calm demeanor and looked about the same age as Lilina—a cute girl.

She was the second heroine from the anime “The Strongest Support Mage: Everyone Else Won’t Let Me  Live a Slow Life.”

“…Alisha.”

I murmured.

The elf-blooded heroine, gifted in magic, had been ruthlessly battered by the protagonist of this anime.
