Chapter 397: The Outcome of the Duel

With the signal to start, the spoiled son launched a fierce attack on Tauro.

Tauro was surprised by the unexpectedly agile and sharp tip of the sword, and just barely managed to avoid it.

Even though  the spoiled brat’s dueling sword had been given the effect of “Lightweight,” it was still a properly shaped sword technique.

“You reacted well! You are a D+ rank adventurer even if you are rotten… But my sword instructor is a man who was once a C rank adventurer. I can beat him. You know what that means, right?”

 The spoiled  Son said triumphantly.

“That adventurer took it easy on you and letting you beat him to build you up, wasn’t he?”

Tauro replied with a mysterious look on his face, unclear whether he was serious or joking.

“That’s not true! I’m just saying you’re in the D rank range so there’s no way you can beat me!”

The spoiled son declared and delivered a sharp blow to Tauro’s neck.

Tauro ducked and dodged this with ease.

“Damn! He’s got the moves!”

The spoiled brat spat those words out, and using his sword’s 『Lightweight』 ability, he unleashed a succession of sharp slashes.

Tauro also looked serious as he readied his short dueling sword and began blocking and parrying the blows, and from the spectators’ perspective it looked like he was on the defensive.

The spoiled son’s entourage cheers at his one-sided performance.

“Boy, that’s good!”

“This is overwhelming!”

“Brat! Admit defeat before you get hurt!”

They can say whatever they want.

 But Tauro remained calm.

I could clearly hear the voices of the spectators and see their movements.

The spoiled son’s swordsmanship was impressive, but it could only be said that he had the wrong opponent.

He learned a lot from his instructor, a former A-rank belt adventurer in the city of Saisii, who thoroughly drilled him in the basics of all martial arts, and as an adventurer, he has fought many actual battles risking his life  on a daily basis.

In Tauro’s case, he was on a different level, having survived ordeals at his age that even grown adults rarely experience.

The former C-rank adventurer who was in charge of teaching the spoiled brat the sword probably went easy on him for the sake of money, appeased him, and then left after receiving a generous reward.

The spoiled son’s skills were certainly on par with a D-rank adventurer, but that was all.

He had a format, but that was all he had, no ingenuity, and it’s easy to predict what was ahead.

There are rational moves, but they are predictable.

At Tauro’s level, it would have felt lukewarm.

The spectators, who at first had no doubt that the Spoiled Son would win by a landslide as he launched attacks one-sidedly, finally began to notice that Tauro was dodging his attacks with ease.

Gradually, they began to whisper to each other about how amazing this child adventurer was.

“You won’t win if you keep running away!”

 Taunted the spoiled son.

But after those words, you can hear him breathing heavily, out of breath.

In contrast, Tauro wasn’t even breathing irregularly.

“So, should I fight back? If I do, I’m afraid I’ll end up breaking a bone or two before the wedding.”

 Tauro replied calmly.

The spoiled son’s face twitched at Tauro’s words.

Although he was attacking one-sidedly, he had not been able to land a single hit and was becoming very out of breath.

A touch of anxiety suddenly crossed the once confident spoiled brat.

Maybe he was stronger than me…,he thought.

 There.

“Leader, don’t go easy on them! They’ve got doctors and healing potions at the ready. Break his limbs!”

 Ankh encouraged Tauro.

“That’s right. Tauro! This guy need to be reminded that he’s not on the same level as you!”

Ragune also joined in Ankh’s provocation.

“That’s right! Severe punishment will be meted out to any fool who mocks Tauro-sama!”

Zion seemed to be a little more serious than the others, but she agreed with the other two and encouraged him on.

“Boy, you’re just bluffing! Of course the brat is tired too!”

“Y-yes! The young master is stronger!”

“Maybe he can beat him!”

Gradually, the spoiled son’s entourage seemed to sense that things were looking ominous, and their cheers of support began to lose confidence.

“……. ─ ─y, you do realize that I am the man who will be the husband of the bride you are guarding, don’t you?”

The spoiled brat warns Tauro, taking a moment to distance himself from him and breathe.

“I don’t see what that has to do with anything, do you?”

Tauro replied as he slowly approached the boy, putting pressure on him to stand up to him.

“You carelessly walked into my line of sight! Take that! First flash, “Goblin Slash!”*¹

the spoiled son exclaimed, and unleashed the sharpest slash ever at Tauro .

“Wow, amazing !”

Tauro replied in monotone, then deflected the attack with one hand.

With a strength beyond what one would expect from a child like Tauro, the spoiled son’s sword broke in two, and the tip of the blade spun around and lightly pierced his right shoulder.

Even though the tip of the blade was crushed, it could still pierce if the momentum was strong enough.

The spoiled son cried out, “GAhhh!”, let go of his broken sword, and fell to his knees.

“That’s enough! The match is won!”

A thin man who looked like a priest hurriedly tried to intervene to stop them, but,

“The match isn’t over until he admits defeat. He won’t admit defeat unless I break one of his arms.”

Tauro stopped the priest-like man from intervening with his left hand.

“W-Wait a second. I, I lost! Someone hurry up and heal me, it hurts!”

The spoiled brat turned pale at his opponent’s merciless words, and he hurriedly surrendered. Then he began to make a fuss as if he had been seriously injured, an injury that, from Tauro’s point of view, seemed to be no big deal.

“…Eh? It’s over already?”

Tauro had intended to give him a thorough scolding, but the defeat ended in a flash.
