Chapter 467: Mad Experiments

After enjoying their time exploring Magical Tool Street, Tauro and Aeris moved to a wide, empty area on the outskirts of town.

Being the capital of a dukedom, it had many vast, open spaces like the royal capital. Such areas are often used for military deployments or for setting up temporary facilities in various emergencies, so there are many of them scattered throughout the capital.

Here, Tauro prepared to conduct an experiment and pulled out a mana recovery potion from his magic storage and handing it to Aeris.

“What kind of ability did you learn this time?”

“I guess you could call it ‘Adversity Ability  Enhancement’.”

Tauro casually announced this ominous-sounding ability’s name.

“…Tauro, shouldn’t we call Zion just in case?”

Aeris sensed the danger and suggested that they should have Zion on hand as a healer.

“It’s fine. This time, I plan to use the ‘Hyper Healing Regeneration’ that I already possess, so I think you alone will be okay,”

Tauro nodded with confidence, but for Aeris, Tauro was up to his old antics. She could only feel worried.

“…I get it. I’ve grown and am confident that I can overcome any minor crises, so if anything happens, I’ll do my best to help you, so don’t worry.”

Aeris made up her resolve and decided to once again accompany Tauro on his experiment.

“Well then, let’s begin…”

Tauro said with a serious look on his face and began chanting black spirit magic.

Aeris wasn’t an expert in dark magic, but it was easy to imagine that it was a high-tier spell, judging from the length of the chant.

When he finished the chant, Tauro placed his right hand against his chest.

“‘Advanced All Status Abnormality Magic’!”

Tauro had cast an attack spell on himself.

Instantly, he covered his mouth with his hand.

He vomits blood and blood spills out from between his fingers.

“Wha—What are you doing, Tauro?!”

Aeris was frozen for a moment by Tauro’s unexpected actions, but then hurriedly tried to cast a healing spell.

But Tauro stopped her with his hand.

“…I-It’s okay. This is within the expected range… so…”

He gasped for breath, looking miserable.

And in that state, Tauro chants a spell.

And then, in that state, Tauro began to chant a spell.

“‘Levitation’!”

Aeris had not expected him to cast the ‘Levitation’ spell, which has limited uses, under these circumstances, so she interrupted her healing spell and stared at Tauro.

Tauro’s body  gently floated upwards.

It was obvious that using Levitation would cause him to float, but normally Tauro could barely manage to rise a meter. Yet, with the self-inflicted status ailment magic he used, Tauro’s face was completely pale and he was now floating up more than ten meters.

“Wha—What’s going on?!”

Aeris exclaimed, looking up at Tauro up in the air in surprise.

“It-it’s is a success…!”

Tauro’s face was still pale, but he had a smile on his face as he slowly descended to the ground.

“Could it be that ‘Adversity Ability Enhancement’ is an ability that increases the effectiveness of your abilities when you’re in a critical situation?”

Aeris racked her brains and came to this conclusion.

“…Correct. I suspected that might be the case, but I didn’t want to put myself in a critical situation, so I was unsure what to do…”

Tauro looked pale, but gradually his complexion began to return to normal.

It seemed he had started healing internally with ‘Super Recovery Regeneration’.

He would likely recover completely if left alone, but Aeris couldn’t bear to watch Tauro suffer, so she cast a healing spell to quicken his recovery.

“Thank you, Aeris. It seems this ability is just as I thought it would be,”

Tauro smiled in satisfaction that his prediction was correct.

“Why do your abilities tend to be so strange?”

Aeris complained, a bit exasperated.

“All my abilities are good and useful in general, though!”

Tauro corrected her.

“…That’s true. We’ve overcome many crises before thanks to those abilities, so it’s clear they are useful. I’m sorry. Then, does that mean once you recover, you won’t be able to fly anymore?”

Aeris pointed out, and Tauro immediately tried chanting “Levitation” again.

When his body floated about a meter off the ground, it stopped there.

“Hmm. I need to test how long the ‘Adversity Ability Enhancement’ state can last in relation to the recovery speed of my ‘Super Recovery Regeneration’… to be honest, that ‘Advanced All Status Ailments Magic’ causes an excruciating amount of pain both inside and out…”

“Isn’t that obvious?!”

Aeris immediately interjected with a retort.

“With that kind of magic, I think a lot of people would not just go mad from the pain, but even die from shock!”

She pointed out with a heavy sigh.

“In my case, I have the ‘resistance to abnormal conditions’, so I can withstand even severe pain.”

Tauro replied nonchalantly.

“I know that, but isn’t there a healthier way to do it?

Aeris was critical of his rather concerning methods.

“Well… would stabbing myself in the stomach with a dagger be better than having my whole body hurt from magic…?”

“Please don’t do that! What kind of person would just watch something as insane as someone stabbing themselves in the stomach to test their powers and not try to stop them? Sigh… I’ve seen more than enough of this kind of behavior from you already…”

Aeris gave Tauro a resentful look.

“Ahaha… I really appreciate everything you do for me…”

Tauro chuckled awkwardly and expressed his gratitude.

“…That’s enough now. So, are you going to continue the experiments after this? At this point, I’ll stick around until the end!”

Aeris responded nonchalantly.

“Alright then, next we’ll try with an injured stomach—”

Thus, Tauro and Aeris carried on with their insane experiments.
