Chapter 386: Teaching Gently
Tauro held up his stick in a relaxed, nonchalant manner.
The young man, perhaps angered by this relaxed posture, swung the stick down on Tauro’s head with force.
The stick was then easily deflected by Tauro’s own stick and hit the ground hard.
The vibration was felt in his hand, and the young man’s face contorted in pain.
“Dammit!”
The young man regained his grip on the stick and now changed to thrusting.
He lightly thrusts at his body once as a feint, and the next moment he aimed full force at Tauro’s face.
Tauro took a step back the same distance as the young man had stepped forward, so the stick stopped just in front of him, out of reach.
“If only I hadn’t misjudged the distance!”
The young man apparently thought he had made a mistake, so he stepped further in and aimed for Tauro’s solar plexus.
In response, Tauro twisted his body and stepped forward, turning halfway and using the tip of his stick to deflect the young man’s stick, and in the next moment he had it curled up into the air.
The stick spun and fell next to Tauro, who caught it.
“Now do you understand?”
Tauro showed him quite a bit of restraint so as not to injure him, but it was only a moment for the young man, and he looked as if he’d been tricked by a fox, then when he came to his senses, he spat out “Not yet!” and grabbed Tauro.
The young man grabbed Tauro by the collar and tried to throw him.
But the next moment, the young man was face down on the ground.
Tauro cut the young man’s leg mid-air as he stepped forward and threw him.
“If this were a battlefield, you would have died twice, wouldn’t you?”
Tauro told him as he grabbed the young man’s hand and helped him to his feet, reminding him that the fight was over.
“……You got me.”
The young man felt like he had been tricked again, but he finally understood that the boy before him was no ordinary man, so he admitted defeat.
Then,
“What are you doing?”
Then the man who was the reason for the argument came through the crowd surrounding the two of them.
“T-village chief!”
The young man cowered his head, looking guilty.
“Kossa! What is all this commotion about?—Huh? What’s with the kid?”
The village chief, sensing that the young man, Kossa, was at the center of the commotion, began to question him, but he was taken aback by the sight of the unfamiliar child beside him.
“Nice to meet you. My name is Tauro, leader of the team “Black-Golden Wings,” and I have come from the city of Caxart at the request of the village chief.”
Tauro bowed in polite greeting.
“Hmm? –Ah! You guys are the best adventurer team in the city of Caxart! I’m surprised you’re so young… –I’m Alimar, the village chief of Zenyu, a dye village. What is the meaning of this?”
The village chief asked for an explanation for the commotion.
“He asked me to teach him some adventurer’s skills, so I was just giving him some light instruction.”
Tauro answered in a matter-of-fact way.
He knew that an adventurer who would just show up and suddenly start causing trouble would not be welcomed.
“Kosa, you didn’t get involved with adventurer-san, did you?! I’m sorry. Our young men are quite hot-blooded. That’s why my daughter…oh, let’s talk about the details at home. -Get back to work, all of you! There you go, scatter, scatter.”
Village chief Alimar dismissed the villagers who had gathered and invited Tauro and the others to his house.
“—It certainly is a copy of the request we sent out. And it’s D+ rank ……. From what I’ve heard, there are C+ rank adventurers in the city of Caxart, no?”
The village chief looked at Tauro and the others for confirmation and asked a question.
“That team did indeed belong to the Caxart branch until recently, but they retired due to certain reasons. So we, the runners-up, are here to help.”
“…I see. Well, judging by how you managed to train our Kosa without even injuring him, you certainly seem to . We have also hired a skilled traveler to escort us this time. I would appreciate it if you would feel free to discuss with him as well.”
The village chief was implicitly saying that if they wanted to test their skills, they were free to do so.
He seemed to have assumed that this was the way of adventurers.
“Of course, we’re happy to discuss the matter further with you regarding the escort, but… Am I to assume that we will be escorting you to the city of Wasan for two days?”
Tauro confirmed the itinerary.
“No, if possible, I would like you to escort us until the wedding is over. So, we will depart in two days, and it will take two days for the journey, then the wedding, and then the day after the wedding, and then we would like you to escort us back. ……”
That’s a surprisingly long time in terms of days. Normally it’s enough to just go there and back, so I wonder what they’re wary of?
Tauro, however, was also thinking, It is the client’s request.
The reward is good too, but why do you care so much?
“What do you guys think? Personally, I think I’d be willing to take it on.”
Curiosity got the better of Tauro, and he confirmed to everyone with a positive attitude.
“if the leader decides it’s okay, fine, okay?”
“I have no problem with that either.”
“…I’m okay with it, too, if Tauro-sama accepts it.”
Everyone agreed, so Tauro decided to take on the village chief’s request.
“That’s great! Well then, let’s discuss the escort plan in more detail. After all, the person we are dealing with is the eldest son of the town mayor. We are also spending money on everything from dowry to gifts. Also… my daughter is a little reluctant, so I need you to keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn’t run away on the way.”
The village chief was going ahead with the plan with enthusiasm, but suddenly he realized the reason why he had to escort the bride to the end of the wedding ceremony.
That’s what it’s all about. ……
Tauro nodded before agreeing, though, he was reluctant about giving an unwilling young lady in marriage.
