Chapter 92: Potential

“Special Magic……”

Rosalia looked at her hands again. How should I explain this? If she asks her magic teacher, he might be able to tell her something. I’m not sure how to explain it to her, but I’m sure she’ll be confused if I explained it badly.

"It's okay, Rosalia. I can do the same thing. I've never thought about it before, but it sure seems strange. I'll ask the magic teacher next time."

Rosalia nodded silently. It seems that she was convinced. I divert the conversation so as not to let Rosalia overthink things too much.

“It’s almost time for dinner. Let’s call it a night and get cleaned up.”

“okay.”

Rosalia and I clean up the room. I wonder if Rosalia will be angry if I secretly make magic tools later.　What should I do?

“I’m glad you’re helping me out too, Mira-chan. Thank you.”

“Kyu!”

It seems that Mira is quite attached to Rosalia. It is good that Mira is not shy. I can introduce her to other people without any worries. I’ll have to introduce her to my friends.

The next day, we had magic class in the morning. So I immediately asked Kernel-sensei about what happened yesterday.

“I see. That’s the phenomenon we call ‘potentiality’.”

“Potential?”

“Yes, that’s right. it is a special phenomenon like magic, but we don’t know the principle of it at all. And not everyone can use it.”

I see. It is true that you have to learn the skill to use it. Not everyone can use it, and not everyone can learn it.

“And it’s not like magic, where you have to chant. Therefore, we treat it differently from magic.”

It seems to be treated like a mysterious special ability. there doesn’t seem to be much research on it. Well, if only certain people can use it,  then research will stagnate.

“What else is there,  Kernel-sensei?”

Rosalia asked, her eyebrows furrowing.

“The other things I know about are the ability to appraise things, the ability to see the flow of magic power, and the ability to perceive monsters. I’m sure there are others, but most of them are unnoticed because the person is using them unconsciously.”

I see. So even if they are aware of it, they don’t tell us because they don’t want to be thought of as heretics?

Rosalia seems to have been convinced for the time being by the teacher’s explanation. She seems a little relieved to know that her power is not strange.

After finishing the magic class and eating lunch, I decided to head to the capital for an inspection in the afternoon. I haven't heard that there was any problem during the half month I was in the royal capital, but I have to show my face to Giles and Christopher. Perhaps they might be worried.

“I’m going to the capital in the afternoon, what about you, Rosalia?”

“I’m going with you.”

“Kyu!”

It seems that the two of them are coming with me. I was going to introduce Mira to them, so it was perfect. As soon as I sent the messenger, they arrived at the mansion.

“Sorry to keep you waiting.”

“I’m sorry for calling you out of the blue. I thought I would introduce you two properly.”

Giles must have heard about Mira from Lionel, his father. Christopher would have heard about it from Giles. So they did not look particularly surprised. Of course, they was looking at me with interest.

“This is Mira, the holy dragon we are going to raise at home. Mira, this is Giles and this is Christopher.”

“Kyu”

Mira replied and shook her head. I guess that means she understands. The two people who saw this were surprised.

“Julius-sama, could it be that Mira-sama can understand our language?”

“Yeah. She does. So don't say anything weird. She might bite you."

“Bite me……”

Mira would not do that, but just in case. Christopher hurriedly withdrew the hand he was about to extend.

“Now that the introductions are over, let’s get going. Anything unusual happen?”

"No. I guess they just started selling firewood in preparation for winter.”

“No, nothing has changed. it is the same as usual.”

The carriage bearing the family crest of the Margrave Heine family departed. As we drove through the territory, some people looked back at us, but no one looked at us with hostile eyes. Apparently, the people in the territory did not hate us.

I had the carriage stop in front of the Potions Guild. I should report about the old lady. I also wanted to check the ingredients sold at the Potions Guild with my own eyes.

“Rosalia and Mira, please wait in the carriage. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

With that, I got out of the carriage with Giles and Christopher. After asking Lionel to take care of the carriage, I took the knights inside the Potions Guild.

While I asked the receptionist to call the guild master to come over, I looked around at the merchandise.

The quality was not very good, but there was a good selection of materials. According to the inventory on display, the valuable materials were kept in a safe in the back of the store. I don’t know what kind of safe it is, but I have a feeling that it’s not been preserved in very good condition.

I wanted to buy some materials from which seeds can be harvested, but I am not qualified to do so right now. It would have been nice if there was someone close by who was a potion maker. Hire a potion maker? I was beginning to think that might be a possibility.

While I was thinking about it, the guild master came from the back in a hurry.

“I apologize for keeping you waiting.”

“No, it’s fine. I’m the one who didn’t give you a heads up.”

The fat man was wiping his sweat with a handkerchief. He seemed to be in a great hurry. I should have given him a heads-up. I was going to end the requirement right away, and I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it, so here’s the result.

He introduced himself and I got down to business.

“I see. I heard that Margaret-sama passed away. What a great pity. I remember as if it were only yesterday that she was always happily talking about how Julius-sama would take over for her when he grew up.”

The guildmaster was crying. He seemed to have been very close to my grandmother.

Should I tell him that I’m succeeding her?　No, it would be dangerous. It would be better not to mention that I have the book of magic potions that the old lady had in my possession.

She may have trusted the guildmaster, but I just met him. I should be very careful.
