Chapter 671: Commander Giovanni’s Request
Harvesting only one stalk of Holy Clover a day would be difficult. However, there was nowhere around the royal capital to cultivate it. In that case, House Heine should supply it.
Fortunately, as a by-product of attempting to improve Holy Droplets, the House Heine territorial knights now possessed Legendary-class swords. They should not need a great quantity of Holy Droplets.
“Then let’s handle it this way. For the time being, House Heine will take responsibility for preparing the Holy Droplets. Meanwhile, please establish a stable source of Holy Clover.”
“That would be immensely helpful, but are you certain? Surely the Heine Margraviate needs them too.”
“It’ll be fine. We can obtain a considerable amount of Holy Clover in the Heine Margraviate.”
Yes, thanks to the Green Spirit! However, I did not know whether I should reveal that, so I remained silent. Spreading House Heine’s secrets unnecessarily would be unwise.
Everyone accepted my statement without doubt. Building a trusting relationship was wonderful.
“Then we’ll accept your offer and prepare another source.”
“It might be wise to spread the need for clover fields to other territories too. If the entire kingdom ever requires Holy Clover, the supply will be insufficient.”
“That may indeed be true…”
Commander Giovanni rested a hand beneath his chin and thought. Was there a problem? Holy Droplets merely granted an evil-repelling effect; they did not alter a sword’s inherent properties. They should not cause the same problems as the improved Holy Droplets.
“Professor Julius, have you heard about this kingdom’s holy sword?”
Commander Giovanni raised his brows sharply. This appeared to be a serious topic. I should answer honestly rather than evade the question.
“I’ve heard that the kingdom possesses one, but that there is no one capable of using it.”
“Precisely. However, some suspect that the holy sword itself may have lost its power.”
“Do they think it’s broken?”
Commander Giovanni nodded solemnly. I see. Perhaps they believed the reason no one could use it was not the lack of a wielder but damage to the sword itself.
Still, if the holy sword had broken, surely the records would mention it.
“If possible, we would like you to examine it.”
“Well, I…”
Commander Giovanni knew I had restored the Raven Kingdom’s holy sword. Naturally, he wanted me to try. I could hardly refuse. His Majesty had probably already heard the suggestion.
“Please. Merely examining it would be enough.”
“Understood. I don’t know whether I can help, but I’d be pleased to inspect it.”
I wanted to see the Spencer Kingdom’s holy sword anyway, so why not? Perhaps Sister-in-law Daniela had anticipated this possibility when she brought me to the royal capital. As expected of her. She knew how to plan ahead.
After finishing my inspection of the compounding room, a servant guided me towards the room where I would spend the night. The castle contained many guest rooms, yet we walked past all of them and continued deeper inside.
“Nero, could this be…?”
“It appears we’re entering the royal family’s private quarters.”
“I thought so.”
Hmm. I would have been perfectly satisfied with an ordinary guest room, but Sister-in-law Daniela apparently disagreed. Surely they would not take me to her bedroom? I trusted them.
The room we entered was near Sister-in-law Daniela’s. I felt relieved until I realised it was one of the rooms reserved for the royal family.
Some royal generations would have many children, so the castle apparently kept several spare rooms.
“Hmm. I feel rather unsettled.”
“I feel extremely unsettled.”
“We can’t ask them to change it, so I suppose we must accept it.”
Crimson wallpaper covered the walls, embellished with gold decorations. A small chandelier provided the lighting, and everything glittered. A large landscape painting hung upon one wall, so lifelike that it resembled a window. What was this place?
The chairs were upholstered in the same red fabric and embroidered here and there with intricate golden thread. Sitting upon them was frightening. What if something caught on the embroidery? Should I remain standing?
I sat in the least intimidating chair at the desk. Nero remained standing. I could hardly offer him the sofa. I did not want to sit there either.
“…Should we ask for another room after all?”
“…I believe that would be best.”
However, when Sister-in-law Daniela arrived with Mira and heard our request, she rejected it with a smile. She said it did not matter if we stained or broke anything.
Even if she said that…
Whether aware of my suffering or not, Mira bounded freely across the sofa, then bounced repeatedly upon the canopied bed.
Lucky Mira. I could never do that.
