Chapter 461: Seems Like It Didn’t Work Out

The next day, after finishing my morning training and tending the herb garden, I immediately set out to collect Fabienne. It had been a while since I had ridden Mira. Flying through the sky really was pleasant. As expected, the townspeople paid little attention to what was happening overhead. I also tried to remain inconspicuous by flying mostly above the rooftops.

“Thank you for coming, Julius-sama.”

“Sorry, am I late?”

“No, not at all.”

Fabienne welcomed me at the Ambert residence and promptly showed me to the salon. Naturally, it would have been improper to take her away without first greeting her parents.

“Well, well, Julius-sama. Welcome.”

“Good morning. I’m hoping to borrow Fabienne’s help once again.”

“Of course! Fabienne has seemed rather restless, after all.”

“Father!”

Fabienne turned red when her secret was exposed. She really was adorable—my beloved future wife. Even the baroness watched her warmly.

I told Fabienne and her parents everything that had happened over the past two days.

“To think the magic potions were all sold out. You should have just called on us without hesitation.”

“I couldn’t do that. I can’t be the only one monopolizing Fabienne’s time.”

“Such thoughtfulness… Thank you.”

Baron Ambert bowed to me. That was not really my intention. I simply wanted them to enjoy their time together as a family. Still, perhaps I was being overly considerate.

As a member of House Heine, I seemed to make the baron’s family defer to me more than necessary.

After promising to collect Fabienne and bring her home every day from then on, I left the Ambert residence.

Riding Mira again for the first time in a while, Fabienne clung to me just like she used to. Is it just my imagination, or does her chest feel a bit firmer than before?

“It’s a little scary flying through the sky after so long, isn’t it?”

“N-No, not at all!”

Despite saying that, Fabienne clung tightly to me. If she’s not scared, then why is she holding on so firmly? Could it be that she missed me so much that she just wanted to hold me tight?

I want to ask—but I feel like I shouldn’t. As I thought that, it felt like I could feel Fabienne’s heartbeat thumping against my back. Of course, my own heart was pounding too.

While we both sat there with racing hearts, Mira happily glided through the skies.

As soon as we arrived at the House Heine estate, we began compounding magic potions. Today, we prepared Hot Cookies for the coming winter. Working with Fabienne beside me was genuinely enjoyable.

At noon, we went to the dining hall, where we found my dear sister-in-law Daniela wearing a troubled expression.

“Sister-in-law Daniela, is something wrong?”

“Julius-chan… actually, yes.”

With that, she took out a letter. Fabienne and I read the letter together. Curious, Mira—who had been sitting on my lap—leaned forward as well. You can’t read, can you?

“Um… was it okay for us to read this?”

The letter was from Her Majesty the Queen in the royal capital—Sister-in-law Daniela’s mother. It said that the royal magic pharmacists had attempted to compound a full recovery potion and failed.

If the country’s most advanced group of magic pharmacists could not make it, that was not something we wanted becoming public knowledge.

“Of course it’s fine. The royal magic pharmacists can’t make the full recovery potion, but you can, can’t you, Julius-chan?”

“Well, yes…”

Fabienne already knew that I could compound a full recovery potion, but she seemed shocked that the royal magic pharmacists had failed. Her eyes widened as she read the letter again and again.

“Is a full recovery potion really that difficult to make?”

“It is certainly one of the more difficult potions. More importantly, gathering the ingredients is extremely difficult. I would like to teach you how to compound it too, Fabienne, but without the materials, that will have to wait.”

Fabienne frowned slightly, looking conflicted. She seemed unsure whether it was truly acceptable for her to learn how to make a potion that even the royal magic pharmacists could not compound. But it was. If anything happened to me and no one else knew how to make it, that would be a serious problem.

“Julius-chan, would you be willing to teach the royal magic pharmacists how to compound the full recovery potion?”

“I don’t mind, but going to the royal capital right now would be difficult. I only just returned to the Heine Margraviate, and there are still other things I want to do here.”

Besides, if I went to the capital now, I’d be separated from Fabienne. And Mira, too. I don’t want that. Absolutely not.

“Of course, I understand. That is why I was thinking of inviting the royal magic pharmacists here instead. What do you think?”

It was not a bad idea. While they were here, perhaps they could also help compound potions for the Heine Trading Company. Their skills would improve, and the arrangement should benefit them as well.

“If Brother Alex approves, I have no objection. Could we also ask them to help with the Heine Trading Company’s work?”

“That is an excellent idea. Let us make it a regular arrangement—invite royal magic pharmacists from time to time and have them compound potions under the guise of practical training.”

Was this really acceptable? Did it count as an abuse of authority? Well, no one would refuse an order from a princess of the realm. No doubt, this would become one of her conditions for me teaching them how to make the full recovery potion. Sister-in-law Daniela was as shrewd as ever.

With this arrangement, the future of House Heine’s magic-potion supply looked bright.
