Chapter 342: The Thaw Arrives
Once the bathing garments removed the awkwardness, Lady Fabienne and I could relax and enjoy the bath. We splashed water at each other until it was time to leave.
Because we were both properly covered, we could enter the changing room at the same time and speak through the folding screen.
“That was fun. Let us bathe together again sometime.”
“Next time, we should invite Rosalia and Mira as well.”
I decided to ask Father to install a permanent partition and divide the changing room more clearly.
Mother was waiting in the salon. Nero handed me a cold drink while Lady Fabienne and I reported the results.
“Mother, the bathing garments worked exactly as intended. You may wear yours with confidence.”
“I see. Was it comfortable?”
“It felt unusual at first,” Lady Fabienne said, “but I quickly became accustomed to it. It stayed secure and allowed me to move freely.”
Mother brightened. “Excellent. I look forward to trying mine.”
After leaving her, I went to the salon where Sister-in-law Daniela was resting. Sister-in-law Meeka happened to be there as well.
“Sister-in-law Daniela, Sister-in-law Meeka, may I discuss something with you?”
“What is it?”
When I explained the bathing garments, both became immediately interested. Lady Fabienne joined the discussion, and the four of us formed a cheerful little group despite not being related by blood.
“I would like to make garments for both of you. When you have time, please ask the household seamstresses to take your measurements.”
“You will not measure us yourself?” Sister-in-law Daniela asked teasingly.
“Certainly not. Brother Alex and Brother Cain would never forgive me.”
“Then perhaps Alec can do it.”
“And I shall ask Cain,” Sister-in-law Meeka said.
Brother Alex and Brother Cain, I had clearly recommended the seamstresses. Whatever happened next was not my responsibility.
Nero brought my sketches, and both sisters-in-law selected modest two-piece designs.
“Understood. I will begin once the measurements arrive.”
I still needed garments for Rosalia and the attendants. The project was becoming larger than expected.
A few days later, the seamstresses delivered the measurements. They confirmed that each garment would need careful individual tailoring, so I followed their notes rather than trusting rough estimates.
Within several more days, I completed bathing garments for the entire family and for the attendants who assisted in the bath.
The attendants' garments came in three highly stretchable sizes so that several people could share them.
Rosalia and the men welcomed the idea. I had expected someone to call it unnecessary, but everyone appeared relieved to have a simple rule that removed uncertainty during shared baths.
Family bath time became more common once everyone wore proper garments. Sister-in-law Daniela was especially pleased, and I could now join Father and Mother without embarrassment.
Lady Fabienne also grew closer to everyone in House Heine. The relaxed family time helped her feel that she truly belonged.
I had no intention of selling bathing garments to ordinary households yet, but there might eventually be demand among nobles. First, I would need a reliable source of suitable spider silk rather than relying entirely on Thread Creation.
Before I realised it, the thaw arrived.
Throughout the remaining winter, I had been producing potions, stationery, and magic tools. Several supplies were now running low, which finally gave me an excuse to slow down.
The craftspeople no longer required constant supervision. Brother Alex planned to recruit more workers in spring, and merchant activity would increase as soon as the roads cleared.
He and Sister-in-law Daniela watched the winter sales figures with a mixture of pride and concern.
“Brother Cain and Sister-in-law Meeka will return to the Royal Academy, correct?”
“Yes. That is the plan.”
“It will be lonely,” Sister-in-law Meeka said. “Could Lord Julius return with us?”
“Absolutely not.”
Her hopeful expression fell at once. Brother Cain looked almost equally disappointed, which made Father and Mother laugh.
However, they were not the only ones saddened by the approaching departure. Sister-in-law Daniela also looked unusually subdued.
