Chapter 120: Departure to the Royal Capital

　In front of the residence of the Margrave Heine family, there was a line of servants. Among them, I was standing in line.

　The snow that had covered the ground has completely melted away, and small green leaves have begun to sprout. Today is the day my brothers leave for the royal capital.

　Mother was saying goodbye to Brother Alex and a slightly nervous Brother Cain.

“Both of you, Take care of yourselves. Alex, take good care of Cain." 

“I’ll take care of him, Mother.”

“Mother, I am not a child anymore.”

　Brother Cain seemed somewhat upset. He says he is not a child, but he is only thirteen. Even so, he would be half child and half adult. Brother Alex, on the other hand, is fifteen years old and will be recognized as an adult upon graduation from the school.

　This year, perhaps he will be appointed vice student council president?　The Heine family was excited about it.

“Brother Alex, Brother Cain, please send me a letter from time to time.”

“I understand. I’ll send a letter to Julius as well when I report to father and mother about what’s going on.”

“I will try to write as much as possible.”

　In contrast to Brother Alex who accepted with a smile, Brother Cain smiled bitterly. I think Brother Cain likes to be physically active, and I think he’s a bit of a brainiac. I’m a little worried about him. He should at least be able to write letters.

“Both of you should be diligent in your studies. I look forward to seeing you both when you’re all grown up.”

　Finally, father patted them on the head and the brothers got into the carriage.

　With about ten escorting knights, they left for the royal capital.

“Kyu~”

“They should be back in the summer, so we’ll be a little lonely until then.”

　I patted Mira’s head who made a sad sound. The two of them had taken good care of her during the winter. That’s why she’s going to be lonely.

　The turmoil in the royal capital seems to have subsided, but we still don’t know who is behind it. That’s the only thing that worries me a little. I don’t think they’re going to target the school, but ……

　I think my parents might not have really wanted him to go. I think they decided to trust brother Alex because he is an adult now.

　I heard that this incident was the best-kept secret of all, and that  brother Alex had heard about it from Miss Daniela in secret. What does “best-kept secret” mean? Well, I guess that means miss Daniela and brother Alex are getting along so well.

　 His Majesty the King survived. It seems that the magic potion he got from somewhere was extremely effective, and he recovered immediately. So they decided to handle the matter in absolute secrecy so that it would not become a major incident that would shake the country.

　Of course, they have become more vigilant about food again.

　The perpetrators have been caught and are currently being interrogated. That’s right. There are only a few people who could poison the King’s food.

　I’m not sure how this attempted poisoning case will turn out.

　And that “magic potion I got from somewhere” must be the Panacea  I left with Chloe. The elixir was of such poor quality that I’m sure His Majesty the King would have balked. The concentrated forest flavors and the unpleasant aroma. Just the thought of it was enough to make me say no thanks.

　The next time I make it, I want to make something of a higher quality.

　I’m glad that the only one targeted was His Majesty the King. If the Queen and Chloe had been poisoned at the same time, they would not have survived. I was sweating as I read the letter.

　As I was wiping the sweat off my face, I heard a “ding dong” sound. Without waiting for my reply, a voice called out from the other side of the door. It seemed to be urgent news.

“Julius-sama, the master wants to see you.”

“Okay. I’ll be right there.”

　I was sure that the letter that had been sent to my father had mentioned something about this. I was called out because of it, which didn’t bode well. With heavy steps, I headed for the office where my father was.

　I rang the doorbell and entered the room. Inside, I found my father and Lionel.

“You wanted to see me, Father?”

“Julius, you’re here. First of all, take a look at this.”

　I take the letter offered to me. Like the letter I had just read, it was about the attempted poisoning of His Majesty the King. And at the end, it said, “I want Julius to come to the royal capital.”

　Apparently, he was asked to do so by Daniela-sama. I could see from the text that brother Alex, who had no idea what he was talking about, was puzzled.

“Julius, are you sure that the magic potion used here is a ‘panacea’?”

“Perhaps. I guess they want to keep it a secret, seeing as their names are not mentioned. Probably about me, too.”

“I suppose so. So, Alex’s letter probably asked Julius to come to King’s Landing. A letter from His Majesty the King would make it easy to find out who it went to.”

　I see. So they used brother Alex out of caution against the enemy. It’s tough for the royal family that they can’t easily send out even a single letter.

　But then, Chloe wrote to me.　What’s going on. Is it ok because I’m still a kid?

　If they’re calling me to the royal capital, you probably want to ask me about the elixir. It would be better to disclose how to make it than to hide it. That way, we should be able to prepare a number of the panacea. Then the survival rate of Her Highness the Queen and Chloe would be higher.

“Then I will go to the royal capital as soon as possible.”

“I and Lionel will go with you. Make preparations as soon as possible.”

“I understand.”

　Ah, the peaceful routine has already turned into a busy routine.
