Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 4. A small tear (2)

The room was so quiet that it was hard to believe that this was the moment where the couple had initiated their separation, which had not been discussed beforehand and could be described as abrupt.

In silence, Flora signed the divorce papers.

Elliott received it silently and left the room without a word.

Even the surrounding knights who were accompanying him were perplexed by this, but they left the room as if to escape from the awkward silence that had taken over the place.

─ ─ ─ Hey, you don’t even have a final word to say to the person you married…are you out of your mind?

Kevin opens his mouth in surprise and anger, but the heavy atmosphere prevents him from speaking.

The only good thing that came out of it was that Emily walked away with them without saying anything unnecessary.

Kevin, who was at the back of the group, had originally been waiting in the hallway, peering through the doorway to see what was going on inside. As everyone left in a daze, the door to the simple tenement house slowly closed.

Kevin was the only one besides Elliot who was acquainted with Flora, but being an uneducated person, he couldn’t even find the right words to say to her at a time like this.

Unable to move, I catch a brief glimpse of Flora through the closing door, and the look on her face, as if she has given up on everything, burns into my memory.

–From what I can remember, the two of them didn’t have such a cold relationship…

Once again, he returned his gaze to the closed door and thought of Flora, who was standing there, and of Elliott, who once was.

Then he turned on his heel, slumped his shoulders dejectedly, and followed the group.

Kevin, still a low-ranking knight, could have protested to Elliott in his anger, or even beaten him up, but that would have only ended in him being dismissed from the Order. It would be useless, and at worst, he would end up harming even the things he cared about.

Kevin sighed heavily, feeling a sense of helplessness.

Since riding on horseback would be too conspicuous when moving around the city, they used carriages. The knights, led by Elliot, were divided into several carriages and headed for the knight’s corps station at the royal castle.

Kevin was sleeping idly in the last carriage, but he looked up when the carriage suddenly came to a halt.

“What’s going on?”

From the small carriage window, he could see a crowd of people at the end of an alleyway. Plumes of black smoke was billowing from a building in the back.

“It looks like there’s a fire. I’ve let the deputy-commanders go ahead to avoid making a big commotion, but some of us should go to help.”

The fellow knights who had gone ahead of the them had went out first to check the situation, and were just returning.

When he headed to the scene with the few remaining knights, he found that the fire had already been put out and the injured were being carried out of the area.

When the crowd noticed us, they erupted in cheers.

“It’s the saint! The Saint has come!”

Even Kevin and the others who were present turned around in surprise to see Saint Emily walking lightly towards them.

To avoid causing a commotion in the town, only unknown knights were left on the spot, so that was ruined. Kevin frowned.

Many of the clergy and monks, with the blessing of the goddess, are able to use healing and restorative magic as well as purification.

It was perfectly reasonable for Saint Emily to rush to treat the injured, and even if her fame caused unnecessary trouble, it was only right that human life took first priority.

 However──…….

“S-sorry, I’m not very good at healing magic…”

While holding her hands over the injured person, Emily had been spewing those kinds of excuse-like words for some time now.*

No one could blame the Saint for taking the trouble to come all the way here. Everyone knew that Emily became a saint because of her high purification power. Even if she was not very good at healing and restoration, there is no reason to blame her.

Even so, one might think that the reason she can’t help making excuses for her slow-acting healing magic is because she is full of compassion and cares for the injured.

 ─ ─ Yeah, I knew I wasn’t just imagining things, right? Well… you’re weak. …… You don’t have to hide it, Miss… saint….lady….*

Devotion is certainly one of Emily’s virtues, and there is no denying that. But Kevin is skeptical that she should be called a saint.

 - I mean, even her fame is an exaggeration in the first place, wasn’t it?
