Chapter 96: Situations in Each Country

Day 201 of Life in Another World

Yesterday, Akiho finally achieved her long-awaited class change and headed to the dungeon with everyone. Merinard and the two escorts also returned and joined Rado and the others in challenging the dungeon.

In reality, for the past week, I've been able to gather some information about the beastmen's territory and the human territory. The Dragos are still diligently clearing the dungeon, and we mostly have conversations during dinner, but I have a general understanding of the overall situation.

Firstly, let's talk about the parliament after Drago and Maria retired.

The new chairman is a tiger beastman named Taigan. According to Drago, he is a remarkable person who is strong-willed, has a strong sense of justice, and is highly respected. He had previously been in charge of commanding the united forces. Not only is he personally strong, but he is also excellent in commanding and winning people’s hearts.

Tiger beastmen, regardless of gender, are almost all part of the military and constitute the main force of the united forces. The second in line is the wolf beastmen, followed by the Ape beastmen. These three races alone make up 60% of the entire military.

When listing the population ratios of each race in descending order, it goes like this: Ape beastmen, tiger beastmen, wolf beastmen, fox beastmen, sheep beastmen, bear beastmen, dog beastmen, cat beastmen, mouse beastmen, rabbit beastmen, fish beastmen, and dragon beastmen.

In ancient times, dog, cat, mouse, and rabbit populations were more significant, but due to the war with the humans resulting in their territories being occupied, the population ratios have reversed to the current state.

The capital, Bistria, is at the center of the territory, with Ape beastmen to the northwest, tiger beastmen to the north, and wolf beastmen to the northeast, forming the defense against humans. Additionally, to the southwest of the capital is the fox beastmen's territory, and to the southeast is a territory with a mix of races. The city of Kaemos, where we trade, has many residents who were forced out of their territories during past wars.

Apart from the Kaemos territory, the remaining four territories are mostly inhabited by the race that governs the territory. However, over the long years, other races have also moved to various places, so it's not accurate to say that a single race monopolizes a territory.

Interactions between the races are lively, and Drago told me, "There has been no significant conflict between the races for the past 100 years."

Among the twelve races, the rabbit beastmen live quietly in the forests of each territory, and their population is quite small. As for the fish beastmen, they are a group of drifters from another continent, so there are currently only 30 of them living in the village. As for the dragon beastmen, only Drago's family has come down from the "Dragon Village."

I got a bit off track, but the current parliament consists of eleven members, excluding the dragon and fish beastmen, and including the Japanese human, Ryonusuke.

Among them, what concerns me is the owner of the Japanese slaves who were transferred. Until now, they werr owned by Drago, who is the chairman... but this time, it was transferred to the new council member, Ryonusuke, not the new chairman, Taigan.

This is undoubtedly abnormal. As Drago and Maria also mentioned, it seems that the members of parliament are under some form of mental manipulation. Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense to transfer ownership of a slave, let alone elect a member of parliament.

Currently, there are about 15,000 Japanese people living in the beastmen's territory, and among them, about 6,000 are Japanese slaves.

With the power to control the lives and deaths of 6,000 compatriots, Ryuunosuke will undoubtedly make his next move soon. Whether he will prudently aim for economic prosperity and military strength or recklessly declare war is unknown, but I hope he doesn't face defeat too early.

Another thing that concerns me is the recent commotion about the "appearance of orcs" in the city.

I heard this information just yesterday. It seems that orcs have started appearing in the forests near the city. Not only in the city of Kaemos but also in the capital and other territories, similar phenomena are occurring.

Up until now, encountering the orc race was normal when exploring the depths of the dungeon. However, they never appeared in the forests or plains near the city, so each city is conducting thorough investigations and vigilance.

Fortunately, there haven't been any reports of cities or villages being attacked, but the fact that "an unprecedented threat is nearby" is enough to cause fear in those who are defenseless.

"Keisuke-san, lunch is ready. I tried a new recipe today, so if you're interested, let's eat together."

"Oh, is it already that time? - If it's Tsubaki's new dish, I better hurry! The one from last time was delicious."

As I was lost in thought, it seems that it's already lunchtime. Tsubaki's homemade bread is popular even among the villagers, so I should hurry before it runs out.

---

"Ah, that was delicious. Thanks for the meal! I got carried away and ate too much though..."

"If you eat that much, it's bound to happen. But I'm glad it suited your taste."

"Still, compared to the early days, the meals have become quite luxurious."

"At the beginning, it was just raw vegetables and cereal... It feels nostalgic thinking about it."

"The fridge broke down too, and we couldn't use gas or electricity..."

"That's right. - Speaking of which, what should we do with the electrical appliances and stuff left in our house? It's pretty late to ask, but..."

"Ah, that's true. Let's put them in storage when we get a chance. They're just taking up space, and if we put them in storage, they won't deteriorate."

"Yes, please let me know when you want to do that. I'll help too."

"Got it. Well, when I feel like it, I'll take care of it someday."

The new Bread was so delicious that I couldn't help but overeat, and I ended up staying in the dining hall for a while, slouching over.

As I was like that for a while, Maria entered the dining hall, passing by Tsubaki. It seemed like she was having a slightly late lunch.

"Oh, Village Chief. You look a bit sloppy, what happened?"

"Oh, I just ate too much. How about you, Maria? Are you having lunch now?"

"Yes, I just finished my chores like replacing the water and changing the bath."

"I see, thanks for your hard work."

"Since we have the opportunity, would you be my conversation partner?"

"Oh, if that's the case, I'd like to hear more about the human territory."

"If you're okay with what I know. Well, I think I've told you most of it already."

As Maria said, I had heard some information from her before.

Trade with the human territory had decreased significantly for a long time, especially in terms of food exchange, which had practically become nonexistent. Other goods were occasionally brought by each merchant.

However, diplomats from both sides visit each other once a month. Although they are not in a complete isolation state, both countries are struggling with food shortages and are highly sensitive to any leakage of internal information.

According to the United Parliament's viewpoint, the human side does not have the leeway to start a large-scale war.

Regarding the Japanese living in both countries, crossing the border is strictly prohibited. Both the king of the human territory and the united parliament of the beastmen are trying to use the Japanese people's professions and skills to develop their own countries. Border inspections are conducted quite strictly.

According to information from spies sent by the parliament and occasional traders, the total number of Japanese people in the Amaldia Kingdom, which is a human country, is an astonishing 80,000. Of those, 50,000 have obtained citizenship, while the remaining 30,000 have fallen into slavery.

In the Amaldia Kingdom, those who resist or do not follow the country's policies are mercilessly enslaved. During the initial phase of transmigration, there were riot-like incidents in various places, and they had to deal with them.

However, for those who are obedient or proactive about living in the country, they seem to be given quite a bit of freedom. There are also a considerable number of Japanese people who have fully assimilated as fellow humans. This suggests that there is no indication of a summoning plan or large-scale enslavement led by the country.

"This is causing quite the commotion. Do orcs appear in the beastmen's territory too? Just like they do in the Amaldia Kingdom?"

"Yes, because of that, there's even less exchange between the two countries. If you're attacked by orcs on the main road, it's a total wipeout unless you have considerable strength."

"I see... But why did orcs suddenly appear? I've never seen them near Nanashi Village unless I go east along the river."

"I don't know about that... The first sighting in the Kaemos territory was about 15 days ago. An adventurer party discovered them in a different forest from here. By the way, they were discovered even earlier in the capital."

"Oh. Merinard didn't mention anything about that..."

The parliament initially thought it was a misunderstanding as well. It was only through the reports of the dispatched investigation team that they finally confirmed their existence recently. According to some reports, the orcs didn't leave the forest and only roamed around inside.

"Just to be safe, we should investigate the forest near the village as well. Depending on the situation, it might be a good idea to put up barriers on the road to the city."

"But we didn't see them at all when we came to the village. Shouldn't we be fine?"

"No, no, I'm a worrier. Just to be sure, we'll conduct a thorough investigation from tomorrow."

Although I'm curious about the reason for the appearance of orcs, first and foremost, ensuring the safety of the village comes first.

While the villagers' levels have gone up, if it's orcs, it might be manageable, but if we encounter higher-ranking species, it'll be tough to escape. We also have to consider trade and accepting immigrants.

When I decide to act, I act right away. I was an old man planning for the exploration from tomorrow onward.
