Chapter 45: Sorry, Say Again?

Day 89 of living in another world

The next morning, we organized a survey team and set out to set up barriers in the settlement.

In addition to Rad and myself, we were accompanied by Sakura and Touya as guards, Akiho as a healer, and two scouts.

About 40 days have passed since we started pioneering the road to the settlement, and more than 70% of the road has already been completed. It seemed likely that the road would be open to the village before the next trade.

This is the village where we used to live. It has been abandoned for a while, and the grass is all dried up.

When we arrived at the settlement and looked around, we saw that it was about the size of the village just after the transfer. There were several pit houses, and weeds were growing thickly in what used to be fields.

It was the first time for me to come this far from the barrier area. I'm impressed by the otherworldly atmosphere.

When I imagined the source of the transfer, images of the location appeared in my mind. Then I imagined the target and the amount to be transferred from there. Finally, I specified the destination and thought about it, and it seemed that the goods were transferred at that moment.

This time, I transferred a basketful of potatoes, and the amount rolled onto the dirt floor of the residence almost exactly as I had imagined. There was no magic circle-like effect, and they seemed to appear suddenly on the floor.

After the confirmation of the settlement's barrier and transfer was completed successfully, everyone was on their way back to the village.

In the midst of all this, Rad was talking with Roa with a tense look on his face.  Next to him was a rabbit woman who was probably his partner. I thought, "Please do that kind of thing out of sight, ......," but stopped thinking about it when I realized that with the rabbit's hearing, it would be the same no matter where they where.

That night, Rad came to report that they were now officially husband and wife, with Roa's permission. They are going to live together from tonight, and it seems that Roa will switch places with her and move to her house. I hope they will work hard and contribute to the increase of the village population.

One week has passed since the settlement was transformed into a village. The development of trade routes is progressing smoothly, and in terms of hunting demons, Rad and the other warriors were given priority in raising their level.

Today, two days before the trade with the trading company, the long-awaited water mill was completed. Rudrug, full of confidence, leads me around the various places.

“It's finally finished. It's really impressive to see it in person.”

There was a magnificent building that did not look like a hut, and two waterwheels were spinning around on the river. When I checked inside the hut, I found that it was geared to transmit the power from the waterwheels to the pestles and millstones.

There is hardly any furniture or beds in the village. I thought it was a very good proposal considering Natsuki's skills.

“I'm going to borrow Beritoa's blacksmith shop. I have already obtained permission. I'm going to ask him for some metal fittings and stuff like that.”

“When we get into full swing, we'll set up a new workshop, so you can coordinate with Rudrug on that, too.”

It helps me to act voluntarily. Natsuki's contribution is very high, and I was looking forward to seeing her do a good job again this time.

“By the way, how long ago did you start working on Akiho?”

“She was very helpful and I was looking forward to seeing her contribution to this project. I've been guiding her to do this since then.”

“We get along well with each other, and this way of settling things is the best for the village and for me.”

I told Natsuki that she could freely examine the furniture in my house. I don't know how much it will be helpful, but I want her to make something even a little better.

I want to question Touya as much as I can, but it's obvious that if I do, I'll be miserable.

I gave up on the idea that Touya is the hero of the village and returned to my work at a leisurely pace for the rest of the day.

I'm going to go back to my work and spend the rest of the day doing it.
