Chapter 16: Visitors

After checking the status, Tsubaki went off to work in the fields and Sakura went off to verify her skills.

And I was just going around the village, looking for any monsters or animals in the vicinity. I happened to find a fainting bird that had probably collided with the ward, so I caught it and began to process it.

Naturally, I had no experience in dismantling. I tried everything I could think of, but the ...... results were not very complimentary. I'm just glad that the goblins made me less mentally resistant to the process.

(Well, i just have to keep on steadily gaining experience. ......)

That evening, before the sun went down, we all took a bath and had dinner. The chicken meat was roasted whole, and despite its appearance, it tasted excellent.

“Speaking of which, Sakura, how was the magic verified?”

“Well, as far as power goes, it went up quite a bit. But it doesn't go so far as to ...... have the power to kill."

“How powerful is it exactly?”

"About as powerful as a high-pressure cleaner, if you will.　If i aim for the eyes, i should be able to create enough of an opening even at this stage.”

“What about shape manipulation?”

“I was able to change the shape almost exactly as I imagined. I have not yet been able to do more than one at the same time, but I am working on it. It's like a low-power water ball, a water arrow, and a water bullet.”

Tsubaki had a confused look on her face when she heard this, but it was a very clear explanation to me.

“I think I can still make the enemy look up and roll over, so I'm looking forward to it!”

“Well, that's very encouraging, and I look forward to working with you in the future.”

After that, I asked Tsubaki about the progress of the field and had a few other idle conversations with her, then went to sleep. Of course, we slept in separate rooms. I don't have the courage to crawl in the night.

Day 9 of my life in the other world

The first five days after defeating the monsters, I was generally at peace.

In addition to the goblins, a burly boar and a large rabbit monster attacked me, but I was able to hunt them safely by dropping them into traps. Incidentally, the rabbits did not have horns. But they had sharp snouts and were not cute at all.

Luckily, the rabbit and boar demons dropped meat and skins as well as magic stones. These are so-called "drop items. It was just as it should be in another world, but I would have starved to death otherwise, so I gladly accepted them.

“Tsubaki, they all seem to be growing well.”

“Yes, they are growing too well. Even if I had no experience in agriculture, I would know that this rate of growth is extraordinary.”

Now, Tsubaki and I were at a field that had expanded considerably. It had only been a few days, but the whole area was abuzz with greenery.

I guess it was the effect of the village bonus "rich soil," but the potatoes and sweet potatoes in the vegetable garden were growing so fast. They were ready to be harvested at any time.

If the crops are disease-free, there is no need to worry about plague bacteria. I used the sweet potatoes as seed potatoes and planted them in a new field.

With the dwindling stockpile at home, we are very grateful for this growth. While I was talking with Tsubaki about this, Sakura came walking toward us from the river.

“I'm going to water the fields now.”

Dexterously manipulating water magic, she is spraying water in the form of a mist. I don't know, I can't use magic, but I think she is quite talented.

“I wish I could use magic, too.”

“You have village skills, Keisuke-san. If you could use magic, I would have no place to stand.”

For a while after that, the three of us happily chatted while watching the sprinkling. Today, we have a potato dish waiting for us, so we can't wait for lunch time.

After lunch, it was time for everyone to move on to their own free time. When all three of us were about to go out into the garden, we heard a man's voice coming from outside the boundary.

“Hello!　Excuse me, are you from Japan?”

Directly in front of the house, right next to where the hole for the trap was, I saw several figures. I guessed there were four men and two women. I could see that there were three of them, so I had no choice but to deal with them as they were.

The man with them said,

 "I'll do the talking, will you two shut up and watch?"

“I understand.”

After hear this, I headed toward the group with nothing in my hands. As we face each other across the boundary, the man who seems to be the oldest of the six begins to speak. He was an old man, probably in his forties.

“Nice to meet you, my name is Katagiri. Sorry for the sudden visit.”

The man who introduced himself as Katagiri bowed politely. And the five people around us look at us with serious expressions without saying a word. I have no proof of this, but it somehow smells fishy.

“No, that's fine. My name is Kusakabe.”

“Thank you very much. Actually, we started talking nine days ago..."

He started to tell the story of how they came to be here today. It seemed that they were also  transferees, and the contents were as follows.

All six of them received a strong flash of light at the same time on the same day as we did, and the next moment they were in this forest. They were all in different places at different times, and as they wandered around, they merged into this number of people.

They  managed to spend a few days downstream from this location, catching fish and animals. Yesterday, while exploring the forest, they found this place, so they all came to check it out.

“I see, I understand the situation quite well. By the way, have you all known each other before?”

“No, they are all new acquaintances.”

“I see. Thank you.”

“We are looking forward to joining you here ....... Of course, we will cooperate with you.”

The other five bowed their heads following Katagiri.

“I think you all see something like a thin membrane in front of you. Actually, only a limited number of people are allowed to enter.”

“Limited?”

“Yes, I am not completely sure, but only those who are willing to become villagers can enter.”

All of them looked puzzled, as if they had no idea what was going on. Well, this is a normal reaction.

“Is this a village?”

“Yes, it is called Nanashi Village.”

“I don't know what it's like to be a ...... villager, but I would like to ask if you would accept me.”

“How about the other five?”

I also checked with the remaining 5 people, and since I obtained the consent of all of them, I willed for permission to reside.

"Then please come in. Don't worry, it won't hurt you if you touch the membrane."

After saying that, all the villagers tried to cautiously enter the barrier to see how each other was doing.

Amazingly, they were all exiled.
