Chapter 138: Village Population Surpasses 500!

345th day in the otherworld - 20,200 points

Ten days have passed since we challenged the 26th floor of the dungeon.

Since then, we've frequently encountered the snake people. It seems the white snake scales are highly valuable to them. To meet us, they've been prioritizing exploring the ruins dungeon. I've handed over a considerable number of processed scales, and the snake people are quite pleased.

According to them, "The ones purified at the altar are no less impressive. Please continue to share them with us." Furthermore, as a gesture of goodwill, they generously handed over a bunch of magic ore dropped by Black Snake Warriors.

Their village lacks magic tools, and it seems the only use for magic ore is as decorative items. They mentioned they didn't have much reason to collect them when they fell in the first floor. Since we can make good use of them, we graciously accepted.

Switching topics—the situation at the expansion site is "moderate." The number of visitors has decreased, and we've only gained 20 people in the last ten days.

Nevertheless, 45 new people have become villagers, bringing the total village population to 500. Simply praying every day yields a substantial number of points. It's indeed a feeding frenzy.

Other positive events include the birth of beastmen children and more people acquiring professions.

Additionally, things are going exceptionally well on the military front. Both the security team and the Nanashi army have gained volunteers, and we now have a large group of 100 members. While taking turns guarding the settlement, we continue daily dungeon hunts, and non-combat professions are also steadily leveling up.

By the way, the current situation, as reported by Tsubaki, looks something like this:

Looking at this list, my initial impression was, "The population has grown considerably."

About half a year ago, when Drago visited for an inspection, we had just around 70 people. I thought that was a lot back then, but now it's 500. Although my role remains that of the village chief, in terms of scale, it has significantly surpassed the village itself.

Lost in such emotions, I headed towards the farmland expansion area where Tsubaki was.

"Tsubaki, the relocation of the farmland has progressed quite a bit. By the way, it's incredibly fast, but is everyone not overexerting themselves?"

"Ah, Keisuke-san, welcome. Of course, I'm not letting them overwork. On the contrary, some even want to work in the afternoon, but I stopped them."

"I see, that's good. Still, it's quite fast..."

It was an area designated for farmland to the east of the river, and what was once quite desolate now had about half of it already developed. Even now, nearly a hundred people, including children, were working on cultivating the fields.

With the combination of farmers' professions, farming skills, and the synergy of leveling up, they were cultivating the fields at an incredible speed.

"The sweet potato fields are already complete. As for rice and wheat, the plan is to switch to this side after the next harvest."

"Is it okay to turn the entire area into farmland? It looks like you've already developed half of it."

"Yes, that's the plan. The amount of work is not an issue at all. We're also tripling the fruit orchard and expanding vegetable fields, excluding sweet potatoes. Additionally, on the south side, we are constructing stables and animal husbandry spaces."

"I see, the building being erected by the construction team is a stable, huh? With that size, the horses can run around freely."

"We're expecting to get dairy cows soon, and we've also had a lot more crooked birds. This expansion came at the right time."

So, we're finally getting cows. Apparently, they're also researching dairy product processing. With an increased variety of dishes on the menu, the future looks quite exciting.

By the way, the annual harvest from all the farmland at full capacity is said to be 630 people worth of rice and wheat, and an astonishing 70,000 people worth of sweet potatoes.

Since the beastmen of the village prefer sweet potatoes over rice and wheat and it serves as the main staple for the settlement, the production ratio is set accordingly. It's an incredible harvest beyond my imagination.

"As for the food situation, it's unshakable no matter how many people increase. By the way, won't the warehouse be overwhelmed if everything is put into full operation?"

"Not really. With the current warehouse, we can easily store enough for a year. We are also planning to relocate and expand the universal warehouse, so please look forward to it when the time comes."

"Got it. With the increasing number of villagers, we can make it as big as needed. Just let me know, and I'll take care of it right away."

(I don't think we'll be in full operation all the time, but... 70,000 people worth is amazing. I can't even imagine how much that is.)

While marveling at plans far beyond expectations, I left Tsubaki and headed to inspect the residential area.

In the current plan, on the north side of the residential zone, dormitories for singles are being built, and on the south side, detached houses for families are under construction. Both north and south areas have expanded, and construction work is progressing smoothly.

"Hey Rudorg, how's it going?"

"Oh, you're inspecting again today? You work hard every day."

Despite saying such unfriendly things, Rudorg always looks happy when I visit. That's why I keep coming back.

"Don't say something so cold. Anyway, today, there seem to be quite a few people. Is everything okay at the expansion site? I know it's none of my business, but..."

"They have supervisors over there too, you know? Well, it's like this. Take care of your own house, and all that. The settlers are taking care of it."

"I see, it's more appreciated if you prioritize the village. And... there's no problem here, right?"

"Chief... you asked the same thing yesterday. If some trivial problem happens here, it's not something that can be piled up! You don't need to worry about anything, just watch quietly."

(Oh no... Even though I'm leaving everything to them, I ended up meddling again.)

Leaving behind the exasperated Rudorg, I quietly observed the construction work for a while.

The villagers working on the dormitory construction are around 30 people at first glance. Considering they're also building single houses in the south, there should be even more people in total.

Even so, with this many people, the work speed is extraordinary. Despite the adjustments from professions and skills, houses are going up at an efficiency that would be unthinkable under normal circumstances.

Allocating manpower to agriculture and construction was a great decision. With this, the village will undoubtedly continue to develop even if I stay silent. I have nothing but gratitude for the advisors who gave opinions on personnel placement.

"Now then, it's about time to go. I'll probably come to see it again tomorrow, but... be gentle, okay?"

"What are you saying to an old man like me? Anyway, why don't you join me for a drinking party today? Once in a while is fine, isn't it?"

"Well, let's make it part of dinner then. I can't drink much, but I'm up for being a conversation partner as much as you want."

"Sure thing! Leave the drinking to me."

(Even though it's still morning, Rudorg really loves his sake. Maybe he's not a rabbit person but a dwarf after all?)

Having promised a night banquet, I walked towards the forge thinking, "Shall I process some magic stones?"

The task of making magic stones is the only job I can do. Although there should still be some in stock, I need to do it when I can. Despite the fact that, thanks to the magic ore given by the snake people, this task is not as crucial as it used to be, it still serves as an excuse to visit the forge.

While thinking about such things, I received a telepathic message from Merimas in the middle of walking to the forge.

"Village Chief, it's Merimas. Is now a good time?"

"Hey, Merimas. What's up?"

"Yes, a letter arrived from the lord a while ago. It seems there's an official request from the council regarding accepting refugees from the western territory."

"Oh, it finally came. So, what are the specific details? Should I go there, or...?"

"According to the letter, they seem to want to talk directly. It's written that they want to explain in detail, including progress reports."

"I see, got it. If there's no specified date, I'll go tomorrow morning. What about that?"

"It seems they'll adjust to the village chief's convenience, so I'll convey to the Merry Trading Company that you'll be visiting tomorrow morning."

According to the contents of the letter, it was written that the refugees would start group migration in three days, and within seven days, all acceptance would be completed.

Even if they come to the settlement, I wanted to know the circumstances as soon as possible.

"Thanks for the update. I'll prepare today, and tomorrow morning, I'll transfer."

"Yes, we'll be waiting. That's all then."

(Well, it's finally going to get busy! I don't know how many people are coming, but it's a great chance to increase the villagers.)

I feel bad for Beritoa and the others, but the processing of magic stones will have to wait for another day. I want to prioritize discussions with Tsubaki and the other advisors and start preparing for the substantial acceptance.

(Oh, and I should take Maria with me. If I go quietly, she might sulk... Lux will probably be delighted too.)
