Chapter 114: The Relationships Between the Empire, the Kingdom, and the Beastmen

270th Day in the Alternate World

About One Month Has Passed Since Returning to the Village

One month had passed since the incident of the sudden outbreak of orcs in the Amaldia Kingdom and I learnt about the establishment of the Japanese Empire by the northern heroes.

During this month, both countries had undergone rapid changes.

First, regarding the movement of people:

The release of Japanese slaves in the Amaldia Kingdom and the return of Japanese soldiers and residents from the Japanese Empire had generally proceeded smoothly.

All 20,000 Japanese slaves owned by the kingdom had been sent to the empire and were also freed from slavery. Of the 50,000 Japanese residents who had been living in the kingdom, 30,000 had chosen to move to the empire. The remaining 20,000 were still in the kingdom, but given the growing trend of Japanese exclusion, it might only be a matter of time before they leave as well.

As for the housing of the Japanese who moved to the Japanese Empire, they were using the homes of the residents who had been returned to the kingdom. However, this was by no means enough. Half of the immigrants were living in conditions resembling refugee camps.

However, there seemed to be no issues with food supplies. The Emperor (the Hero of the North) personally declared, "We can easily provide for two years with the stockpile we've accumulated over the past six months."

On the other hand, of the 10,000 soldiers from the former Border count Army, 7,000 had been returned to the kingdom. The remaining 3,000 were those who followed the former Border count, who had become the legion's commander.

Most of the kingdom's residents who had originally lived in the Border count’s territory had moved to the kingdom. Their number was approximately 30,000. A few hundred had stayed in the empire, but these were the families of the soldiers who had sided with the empire.

While there would likely be more changes in the future, the current balance of power was as follows:

---

Amaldia Kingdom:

- Population: 900,000

- Royal Army: 85,000 (50,000 deployed in the northern defense)

- Adventurers: 50,000

- Japanese Residents: 20,000

Japanese Empire:

- Population: 73,000

- Imperial Army: 3,000

- Japanese Residents: 70,000 (20,000 combat jobs, 50,000 other)

The military strength, excluding homeland defense forces, was 35,000 for the kingdom and 3,000 for the empire. Judging solely by this, the kingdom had a significant advantage.

However, all 70,000 Japanese in the Japanese Empire possessed professions and skills. In terms of combat capabilities, they had 20,000 with combat-related skills. Depending on the percentage of those capable of personal combat, they might put up quite a fight. But that was just speculation.

Next, regarding diplomatic matters:

The kingdom and the Japanese Empire had entered into a one-year non-aggression treaty. It was unclear whether this could be easily terminated or if there were magical constraints.

The relationship between the kingdom and the Beastmen's Allied Nations had not particularly changed. Diplomatic exchanges between their representatives continued. Both countries were grappling with food supply issues, and neither could easily launch an attack.

As for the Japanese Empire and the Beastmen's Allied Nations, recent movements had just occurred.

Just a few days ago, the Japanese Empire had demanded the release and handover of Japanese slave laborers in the Beastmen's territory. In return, they offered temporary food assistance and proposed forming an alliance. This alliance would include the free movement of Japanese people between their respective countries.

In summary, it was a proposal along the lines of "Let's jointly restrain the Amaldia Kingdom. We'll provide food, and eventually, we can attack together."

There had been no response from the Beastmen's Council to this demand. Well... it wasn't the council but rather depended on how Ryuunosuke, their leader, would decide.

And so, it went on like this.

While the main characters of the story were moving around, I remained unrelated. I didn't care who was right or wrong, but I wanted to gather information properly.

---

"Okay then, Keisuke-san, we’ll be going now!"

Today, our main force was departing for the dungeon in the ruins.

"Ah, Sakura, and everyone else, don't do anything reckless. Oh, and one more thing. Make sure to send regular reports every night."

"Geez, Keisuke-san, you worry too much."

"Well, don't say that. It would be weird for me not to worry with this bunch."

"Drago-san, isn’t he saying that to you too?"

"Huh? I thought they were talking about you, Touya."

"Not me! Right, Village Chief?"

I’d like to say "It's all of you!", but I've held back until today. I'll just let it slide for now.

Over the past month, while defeating the Minotaurs in the Eastern Forest Dungeon, we had reached the boss room on the 20th floor. However, despite that, Sakura, Tōuya, and the others hadn't leveled up much. They didn't gain enough experience from Minotaurs because they had already gained too much experience in the ruins. Still, defeating the 20th floor would cause Minotaurs to overflow on the surface. While the village was protected by a barrier, it wasn't ideal to have Minotaurs roaming nearby.

Considering our previous promise, I couldn't make them wait any longer. So, we decided to select those with high levels to embark on an expedition to the ruins. The barrier to the ruins had been reconstructed over several days. Yeah, I was exhausted.

"The route to the ruins is the same as last time. I've expanded the barrier at the dungeon entrance, and I've also transported daily necessities and bath buckets there. Sakura and Kyoko are there, so I think you'll manage, right?"

"Thank you. We're off then!"

Seeing them off, I couldn't help but worry for various reasons, but they set off with high spirits.

"They all seemed so happy."

"Well, they all love to fight. By any chance, Tsubaki, did you want to go too?"

"For me, the village is the battlefield! But, I might want to go to the city again?"

"Speaking of which, those guys. In the end, none of them said they wanted to go to the city."

"After that, the only one who went to the city was Natsuki-chan."

"Like to the Adventurer's Guild and all. I thought Touya and the others would definitely be interested... but it seems like they prioritize good hunting grounds."

"I think everyone wants to become stronger and be of more help to the Village Chief."

"Well, let's go with that. So, shall we continue to do our best in the village?"

"Yes!"

And so, Touya and the others continued their battles in the hunting grounds, while we continued our work in the village.
