Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 141: The Team’s Crisis

Although Chloe had intervened to protect adventurers under her authority, she had openly challenged a man claiming connections to a marquis’s house.

I’ve done it now… This may cost me my position.

She remained outwardly composed despite the thought passing through her mind.

“Enough! Soldiers, stand down. I have no desire to create a conflict here.”

Uwaakin had started the confrontation himself, yet he now spoke as though the soldiers had acted without his approval.

So he loses his nerve the moment someone resists him. What a small-minded man.

Chloe recognized his attempt to retreat without losing face and decided to give him a way out.

“We have no wish to cause an unnecessary dispute either. The Adventurers’ Guild shares responsibility for maintaining order in Dansas. Please ensure that nothing like this happens again.”

She turned and walked back into the guild building, concealing her nervousness until the door closed behind her.

“…Where did they go?”

Only after Chloe disappeared did Uwaakin look around and realize that Aeris and her companions were gone.

In a narrow lane between the village houses, Shin and Rumeya finally released the breaths they had been holding.

“Chloe saved us.”

“She really did. Aeris, are you all right?”

Aeris silently nodded.

“We should return home for now,” Shin said. “Tauro needs to hear about this.”

“…Yes.”

When the three reached the house, Tauro had just awakened. He noticed them through the window and greeted them sleepily.

“Good morning…”

Then he saw their expressions.

“What happened?”

Inside, they explained the confrontation in front of the guild.

“I see. Uwaakin doesn’t seem like someone who happened to visit Dansas by chance. More importantly, even if he claims to be Aeris’s intended fiancé, he’s only the second son of a fallen viscount’s house. He possesses no title of his own, and he should have no legitimate right to enter House Van Dyne through marriage without Aeris’s consent.”

A calculating smile appeared on Tauro’s face.

“Tauro, that smile is frightening,” Rumeya said.

Shin nodded uneasily.

Tauro turned to Aeris.

“What do you want to do?”

Her wishes mattered more than anything else.

“I want my family home back, but I’ve already severed ties with my mother. And I’ll never marry that man.”

“Understood. Then I think we have a way forward.”

Tauro began asking detailed questions about Aeris’s relatives, House Van Dyne, and the circumstances surrounding her mother’s actions. Several of the questions made Aeris stare at him in confusion, but she answered each one.

After organizing the information, Tauro returned to his room and wrote several letters.

Shin, Rumeya, and Aeris waited without knowing what part they would play. When Tauro finished, he asked Aeris to write one more letter in her own hand.

She followed the wording he suggested.

“My father’s younger brother married into a count’s family. That house is lower in rank than House Van Dyne, so he may find it difficult to oppose the marquisate directly. Do you truly think he can help?”

The letter asked her uncle for assistance. Aeris feared that political realities would prevent him from acting against the senior house.

“Even if he can’t intervene openly, it’ll help if he acknowledges your position and supports you personally.”

Aeris didn’t yet understand Tauro’s full plan, but she trusted that he had one.

“What should we do?” Rumeya asked. “We’ll help with anything. We’re members of Black-Gold Wings too!”

“Exactly,” Shin agreed. “Friends are supposed to help at times like this.”

“Thank you, both of you. I’m glad I became your friend.”

Tears gathered in Aeris’s eyes.

“In that case,” Tauro said, “we should disband Black-Gold Wings.”

“Right! Leave it to us!”

“Yes, we’ll—”

“Disbanding is easy enough—”

Silence filled the room.

“What?!”

All three stared at him.

“What do you mean, Tauro?”

“Why would we disband?”

“Tell us you were joking!”

The room erupted in protest.

“Wait. I said that badly,” Tauro hurriedly explained. “I mean that Aeris and I’ll temporarily leave the team and travel to the Royal Capital.”

“What?!”

His correction surprised them almost as much as the original statement.
