Chapter 139: The Group’s Return
After an absence of approximately three weeks, Tauro’s party returned to Dansas around noon.
Their first stop was the Marches Trading Company office. Tauro removed the goods Leada had purchased in O’Circus from [Magic Storage] and stacked them safely inside.
Leada reported the exclusive agreement with the mountain village, the success of Tauro’s camping equipment, and the negotiations with the Kishiwanda Trading Company.
Marches immediately thanked Tauro for supporting the journey and pressed him to discuss contracts for the new products.
“I need to report to the Adventurers’ Guild and complete the registrations at the Merchants’ Guild first. We can discuss the contracts afterward.”
Tauro escaped Marches’s enthusiasm and headed toward the Adventurers’ Guild with Aeris, Shin, and Rumeya.
“I missed the Dansas guild.”
“So did I. It hasn’t changed at all.”
Shin and Rumeya entered with the nostalgia of travelers returning after years away.
“How much could possibly change in three weeks?”
Aeris asked dryly as she and Tauro followed them inside.
“Well, if it isn’t Black-Gold Wings. We hadn’t seen you for so long that I wondered whether you were still alive.”
“Were you away on a long-term quest?”
“I thought your team had moved to another branch.”
Other adventurers gathered around them with questions.
“We were completing an extended escort quest,”
Tauro explained as he made his way to the reception counter.
“Welcome home, Black-Gold Wings. I take it the assignment is complete.”
Kannes greeted the team and began the return procedure.
Hearing the voices in the lobby, Chloe emerged from the branch manager’s office.
“Tauro-kun, all four of you returned safely. You were so far behind schedule that I feared something had happened.”
Chloe was visibly relieved.
Black-Gold Wings had formed locally and represented part of the Dansas branch’s future. Their client, Marches Trading Company, was also important to the village. An accident involving either group would have been a serious loss.
“I apologize for worrying you. Several unexpected incidents delayed us, but we obtained the client’s approval whenever the schedule changed.”
Tauro began summarizing the journey.
“This is going to require a lengthy report. Branch Manager, could you assist me?”
Kannes asked with a strained laugh as she gathered several forms.
“Aeris, I also need to visit the Merchants’ Guild. Could you help complete the adventurer report?”
Normally, the receptionist only needed to check the information automatically recorded on an adventurer’s identification tag, hear a brief explanation, and confirm any required quest items.
When numerous unexpected events occurred, however, the receptionist had to question the party in detail and record the information from the beginning. Having someone who could write clearly would make the process much easier.
Shin and Rumeya weren’t yet confident readers or writers. Tauro decided that teaching them literacy would be useful for future quests.
“I understand. You have plenty of paperwork waiting at the other guild, so I’ll handle this report,”
Aeris agreed.
“Then we’ll leave the rest to you, Aeris!”
Shin and Rumeya exchanged a glance and immediately tried to slip away to the Resting Pavilion for lunch.
Aeris’s expression made it clear that she didn’t appreciate their attempt.
Tauro’s visit to the Merchants’ Guild proved as exhausting as expected.
He needed to register a magic lantern, water-repellent cloth, a tent made from that material, rain gear, mayonnaise, mustard, French fries, and popcorn.
The small branch erupted into activity. The branch manager and every available clerk were mobilized to process the unusual collection of products.
“I’m no expert on food, but combining this lantern with water-repellent cloth is an inspired idea!”
The branch manager enthusiastically praised Giro Sugar, the inventor named on the applications.
Tauro was pleased. He had considerable confidence in both the lantern and the waterproof material.
Nevertheless, he expected mayonnaise to become the greatest commercial success. Mustard should also prove popular with both commoners and nobles.
Dansas was already gaining a reputation for the fried food served at the Dwarf Inn. Fried dishes accompanied by mayonnaise and mustard, together with drinks chilled in a refrigerator, would be irresistible to many customers.
Tauro was still too young to drink alcohol himself, but he looked forward to the day when the mountain village could produce the condiments in large quantities.
