Chapter 50: The Kill

Mapel joined the battle between Lusha and the wolf leader, turning it into a two-on-one fight.

Of the nine people she brought, one knight rushed to assist Kerman and his companion against the bloodthirsty wolves, while the remaining eight headed toward the besieged lizardman tribe to provide support.

With the humans joining the fight, the rhythm of the bloodthirsty wolves’ assault was disrupted, giving the lizardmen a bit of breathing room and slightly easing their unfavorable situation.

“Are you alright, lizardman chief?”

Mapel raised her longsword, took a battle-ready stance, and stayed alert to the wolf leader ahead as she spoke to Lusha.

“Why did you bring so few people?”

Lusha clearly wasn’t satisfied with the small size of the reinforcement squad—it wasn’t enough to reverse the tide of battle.

“Gathering knights takes time. We’re just the vanguard.”

Having explained, Mapel turned her full attention to the wolf leader.

“Tch. Such a huge wolf—this is the enemy’s leader?”

“That’s right. Take it down, and the rest of the pack will scatter. The battle ends with it.”

“Then we’d better finish it off fast. Don’t slow me down!”

Seeing the wolf leader recover from the previous attack, Mapel unleashed another water blade with a slash of her sword and charged forward.

“I won’t hold you back!”

Lusha followed her into battle.

She dared talk to him like that? Was she underestimating the strongest warrior of the Sinking Sand Tribe? Lusha vowed to show her his strength—he wouldn’t let his tribe lose face like that.

Hmph. Still acting tough with injuries like that.

Mapel glanced briefly at Lusha from the corner of her eye.

The two began attacking the wolf leader from opposite sides. The beast dodged the water blade and quickly defended against both flanking strikes.

For a time, the three were locked in a dead-even battle.

Still, it was far better than earlier, when Lusha had been fighting at a disadvantage.

As the fight went on, Lusha became more and more impressed with Mapel’s combat skill. Her techniques were sharp and efficient—she clearly had just as much battle experience as he did.

No wonder she was so confident before. She really does have the strength to back it up.

The battle dragged on for dozens of exchanges, but no clear winner emerged. What they needed now was a decisive blow to break the deadlock.

Over at Kerman’s side, the fight was still chaotic, but with the help of the knight, the three of them were holding their own.

It was the tribe’s situation that remained truly worrying. Although the human reinforcements gave them a moment to breathe at first, the bloodthirst wolves quickly adjusted their assault patterns, and things were turning bleak once again. Many lizardmen were injured, and even two humans had been clawed.

Seeing things deteriorate, the human warriors were forced to integrate into the lizardmen’s defensive formation to help withstand the wolf pack’s fierce onslaught.

As expected, such a small force wasn’t enough to shift the tide.
When will the rest of the human reinforcements arrive?

Just as Lusha had that thought, a sudden battle cry echoed from the distant woods—

“All units—CHARGE! Drive back the bloodthirsty wolves!”

A fully armed force of knights burst forth from the forest, charging straight toward the embattled lizardman tribe…

As they moved forward, the knights swung their swords at the bloodthirsty wolves.

Because the wolves were attacked from behind, more than a dozen were taken down instantly.

With the help of these knights, the pressure on the lizardman tribe greatly diminished.

But as long as the wolf leader remained alive, the wolf pack showed no signs of retreat. A portion of them immediately broke off and charged at the reinforcements.

However, facing this elite squad of knights, strong in both offense and defense, the wolves gained nothing—on the contrary, they were slaughtered without mercy.

The entire battlefield shifted dramatically. The tide of victory tilted rapidly toward the humans and lizardmen.

Enraged by the sudden appearance of so many human knights, the wolf leader howled in fury, vowing to kill everyone present.

With a swift spin, it lashed out with its tail, forcing Mapel and Lusha to dodge. Taking advantage of the moment, it pulled back and disengaged from the fight.

Awoooo—!!

The wolf leader howled to the sky, and the bloodthirsty wolves suddenly transformed. Their eyes glowed even redder, their fur stood on end—the entire pack entered a berserk state.

“Everyone be on alert! They’re going all out!”

Lusha shouted.

The lizardman tribe quickly reorganized their formation, rotating out the injured on the perimeter and reinforcing their defenses. The knights, now alerted, also pulled closer to the center, adopting a similar defensive formation.

On Kerman’s side, the three stood shoulder to shoulder, facing the changed wolves with growing tension.

Just as everyone braced themselves, the berserk wolf pack launched a savage assault. In this frenzied state, they had lost all sense of self-preservation, attacking without any concern for defense.

This kind of suicidal offense brought the once-tilted battle back into delicate balance.

Heaven fire!

At that moment, Owen stepped out from the forest behind them. He raised his staff, and above the wolf leader appeared a massive ball of fire that crashed downward.

Seeing this, Mapel quickly raised her sword to block Lusha from charging in.

Boom! The wolf leader failed to dodge in time and suffered a devastating blow, its fur now scorched in several places.

The flames also incinerated nearby vegetation and left a scorched ring on the ground.

Whimper…

The wolf leader let out a pained growl, its eyes full of fury as it glared at Owen, face twisted in rage.

“Check out the new spell I learned: Exploding Flame!”

Fanny had also arrived. Standing beside Owen, she tossed a small fireball at the wolf leader.

Thinking it insignificant, the wolf leader dodged easily—only for the fireball to explode beside it.

Bang!
The blast sent it staggering sideways, disoriented and stunned.

As it tried to shake off the dizziness, Viscount Jarvis stepped forward.

He held a magic longsword embedded with a high-grade frost gem in the guard. With a slash, he sent out a sky-blue ice blade.

The blade struck the wolf leader’s front leg, and in an instant, froze both it and the surrounding ground solid, locking it in place.

Realizing it could no longer move, the wolf leader panicked. For the first time, it considered fleeing.

But it was too late.

There was no way they’d let this opportunity slip by. Mapel and Lusha charged forward, each raising their weapon to strike.

Fanny joined in too, casting basic fire spells, continuously burning the wolf until the stench of scorched flesh filled the air.

Awooo… awooo…

After a few weak howls, the wolf leader finally went still—dead.

With its death, the bloodthirsty wolves snapped out of their berserk state. Realizing something was wrong, the remaining wolves immediately turned tail and fled into the depths of the forest, without hesitation.

At last…
The battle was over.
