Chapter 52: Torquetum and Wof(1)
This is more of a postscript—but after returning to the surface, a bit of a commotion broke out.
Our transfer point had dropped us back in front of the church in that ruined village within the forest.
There we found ourselves surrounded by the surviving explorers from Coon hunt, as well as a number of unauthorized intruders.
A scuffle broke out between us and them… though, honestly, Agaro-san took care of most of it.
They had clearly intended to kill us. So, no need to hold back.
Those who begged for their lives were knocked unconscious and tied up.
We later handed them over to the city guards.
A few of Coon hunt’s hired hands had also survived.
They were completely terrified and didn’t put up any resistance.
We didn’t bother tying them up.
I happened to notice a boy and a girl slipping away, trying to stay hidden.
Unlike the shabby gear of Coon hunt’s mercenaries, their clothes were solid and proper.
They probably weren’t affiliated with Coon hunt.
We handed everything over to the guards the same day.
Then we reported to the guild, disbanded, returned home, and I collapsed into bed like a sack of mud.
I woke up around noon the next day, ate, and went right back to sleep.
When I woke up the day after that, Mineha-san was standing triumphantly on my stomach.
She gave me a sharp look and started scolding me.
Apparently, I’d slept way too long.
I got up and ate with her. Dagaa was looking much better, too.
After eating, I took care of my knives.
One by one—carefully oiling, wiping, polishing, and sharpening them.
The last one was a knife with a wooden handle that I had found deep within the Tomb of Death.
It had a thick blade. Though it came from the deepest part of the dungeon, it was just a regular knife.
It was the cheapest blade in my collection—but somehow, I liked it the most.
“Come to think of it, I feel like there was a folding version of this type.”
Maybe one of those survival knives.
Anyway, what should I do today?
The witch was busy catching up on all the work she had neglected, so she’d be unavailable for a while.
Maybe I’ll head to the junkyard again.
Yeah. That sounds good.
I’ll visit Arifa-san while I’m there.
Then grab a meal at the Cidre Inn.
Maybe swing by the butcher’s too before heading home.
Having made up my mind, I got ready and left the house.
On my way to the junkyard, I spotted a familiar back.
“Liv-san?”
“…Mm… Hey, kid.”
She turned around and casually raised her hand.
Her shining white-peach hair, crimson eyes, pale skin, and beautiful features were unmistakable.
She wore a black jacket over a space-like white bodysuit.
At her waist was a molded, single-piece blade. Still as out-of-place in this fantasy world as ever.
“It’s been a while.”
“…Mm. You doing okay…?”
“Yes. Well enough.”
“…Good… You free… right now?”
“Uhh, yeah, nothing in particular planned.”
“…Mm… then I want you to come with me… there’s somewhere I’d like to go.”
“Sure.”
Where could it be?
Liv-san started walking.
We were heading northeast of Hydrangea.
That area had some forest parks, villas, and such if I remembered right.
“…How’ve you been lately, kid?”
“Huh? Oh… well, a lot has happened. How about you, Liv-san?”
“…Mm. A lot’s happened to Liv, too…”
Yeah, same here… Wait a minute. Northeast Hydrangea?
Wasn’t that where Pakira-san had mentioned?
“Wait… don’t tell me we’re heading to—”
“…Ah… I remembered… Thank you… kid…”
“What’s with the sudden gratitude?”
“…The money… that big sum Pakira got. I heard it was thanks to you and your group…”
“Oh, yeah. I’m glad she was able to buy a base of operations.”
“…But… are you okay with it?”
“With what?”
“…Giving away that kind of money… just like that… Liv was shocked.”
“Well… I guess it was such a huge amount that it didn’t even feel real. And besides, I have this, so I don’t regret it at all.”
“…That gauntlet… it’s… something incredible…”
Liv stared intently at my Gauntlet of Silent Holiness.
Her red eyes were striking—beautiful, really.
“Is it really that amazing?”
“…Mm… It’s about on par with Liv’s Maximilian AMD Suit…”
So that sci-fi-looking suit of hers is called the Maximilian AMD Suit, huh?
AMD… what does that stand for? Anyway, being compared to something like that made me a little happy.
“That’s… an honor.”
“…I heard from Pakira… that the witch made it… she’s got serious skill…”
Coming from Liv, that praise felt like it had extra weight.
We chatted a bit more, and soon arrived at the northeastern district.
This was a resort-like area nestled in the forest.
There were villas and estates owned by nobles, merchants, and renowned explorers.
A statue of a hero stood in the nearby park, and another one stood in the middle of the main road.
Farther northeast was a mountain with a famous waterfall.
I think it was called… “Ob…” something? I forgot.
“…We’re here.”
“This is it?”
“…This is Liv’s group’s new base…”
It was a three-story mansion.
What stood out the most was a protruding section on the left, with four rectangular windows connecting the second and third floors.
In my memories from my previous life, this architectural style was called overhang.
So this was an overhang-style mansion.
Still, those four cross-shaped windows… they really remind me of Saturnus.
That aside, the exterior is interesting—completely white on the first floor, while the second and third floors have a brick pattern.
What an unusual mansion.
“…So this is it.”
“Mm… I’ll show you inside…”
“Uh, is that really okay?”
“Mm… come.”
The front entrance had double doors.
Wait, seriously…? There were lion-head door knockers on both doors.
I’ve only ever seen these in games, manga, anime, or movies.
Lion-head door knockers. I didn’t know they actually existed.
“Whoa…”
“Mm… what is it…? Let’s go in…”
Liv-san pushed the doors open, and we stepped into the mansion.
There were stairs to the second floor and hallways leading off, but…
Surprisingly, the entrance hall was rather modest.
In comparison, the villa where Marquis Tasan’s family stayed had a grand and luxurious entrance hall.
But honestly, I kind of prefer something like this.
Liv-san began walking, so I followed her.
As we went up to the second floor and turned a corner, I came across a familiar face.
“Wof?”
“Pakira-san. Hello.”
“What are you doing here?”
Pakira-san was in casual clothes, holding a book.
She brushed her hair back lightly. Liv-san explained.
“Mm… we met… by chance… so I brought him.”
“That’s the situation.”
“…Liv. You…”
“Mm… I figured, since we’re here… what about Lupinus?”
What’s going on? Pakira-san sighed.
“She’s in her room.”
“Mm… let’s go.”
“Y-yes.”
We left Pakira-san there and walked to a room at the end of the second floor.
Liv-san knocked on the door.
“Yes?”
“Mm… brought a guest.”
“Did we have a guest scheduled? …Come in.”
“Excuse me.”
Still not entirely sure what was happening, I stepped inside.
Lupinus-san stood up from an elegant tea table, looking surprised.
She was, of course, in casual clothing.
But it was my first time seeing her like that, so it felt fresh and new.
“W-why are you here…?”
“H-hello.”
Lupinus-san stared at me in shock, then glared at Liv-san.
“Mm… it really was… just a coincidence… so I brought him.”
“…I see. Alright then. Child—no, Wof-san.”
“Y-yes.”
“This isn’t the best place to talk. Let’s move somewhere else.”
“O-okay.”
What is this strange atmosphere I’ve been caught in?
I followed after Lupinus-san and Liv-san.
And then, once again, we ran into Pakira-san.
“What now?”
“Pakira, you’re coming too.”
“Hmm?”
And just like that, Pakira-san joined us. The full Torquetum party was assembled.
Lupinus-san… I know she’s not a bad person, but she’s definitely a bit intimidating.
In tense silence, we moved to the first-floor living room.
There were two white sofas in front of a large fireplace, and a white table between them.
There were bookshelves and a china cabinet. In the back, I could see the kitchen.
The place had a clean, model-home vibe.
“Please, have a seat.”
“Y-yes.”
At Lupinus-san’s urging, I sat down on one of the white sofas.
We all sat, Lupinus-san in the center, the three of us forming a triangle around the table.
“…………”
No way… I’m actually sitting face-to-face with Torquetum, a powerhouse party of Grade III-ranked explorers.
All three of them are dazzlingly beautiful girls, so when they’re together like this, the atmosphere is intense.
No, seriously—how did this happen?
Lupinus-san looked straight at me.
“First things first… um, Wof-san.”
“Y-yes?”
“Thank you for saving us with the elixir.”
She gracefully placed her hands together and bowed her head.
Ah, I see. So… it’s finally come to this.
