Chapter 78: Selling the Crops

The day after Lua and the others completed their first harvest.

Today, I’m heading to the royal capital alone again to sell the harvested crops.

By the way, I tasted the harvested Crackdraff, but as expected, it wasn’t very delicious.

…However, Lua and the others seemed to find it tasty and ate more than usual.

The Japanese crops are growing well, too, so while looking forward to their reactions when they are fully grown, I loaded the harvested crops onto the carriage Sheila arranged and set off for the royal capital.

Since I don’t have any particular errands this time aside from selling, I plan to deliver my thanks to Rozzo and return by early afternoon.

Although the crops were grown using my skill, I also brought some Japanese crops as samples, so they should be willing to buy them.

Looking forward to seeing how much they’ll fetch, I was rocked by the carriage for about 30 minutes before arriving at the capital.

Last time, I was so nervous, but now I’m not nervous at all. It really shows how adaptable people can be.

Well, since I used to work at a black company, I might be better than most at “getting used to things.”

I even got used to sleeping at the office and working straight through…

Remembering those unwanted memories made me feel exhausted, but I shook them off and arrived at the same tavern I visited last time.

A large establishment with about 300 seats.

Despite their focus on quality ingredients, their high daily consumption meant they were looking for more suppliers.

My farm is still small, so I doubt it’ll make a big difference for them, but they agreed to buy from me anyway, which is why I’m here.

I rang the bell at the back entrance, and the owner who helped me last time came out.

“Oh, I was wondering who it was before opening hours—turns out it’s you from the other day.”

“Magari-san, you remembered me. Allow me to introduce myself properly. My name is Sato. I appreciate your time.”

“Ah, that’s right. Your name was Sato. So, you came to sell vegetables today?”

“Yes. I brought Crackdraff and Browntarn, as well as some rare vegetables to sample.”

“Oh! You brought those special vegetables? I’m looking forward to this. Come on in.”

Carrying a large sack filled with Crackdraff and Browntarn, I entered the shop.

I was led to the food storage area, where it was significantly colder—probably thanks to magic.

“Just leave the vegetables over there. Hey, Norman, can you come over for a moment?”

Magari-san called someone named Norman into the storage area.

A man dressed like the quintessential chef walked in, his long, white chef’s hat making a striking impression.

“Magari, what’s up?”

“I’m thinking of adding a new supplier. Check the quality of these vegetables.”

“I see. What vegetables did they bring?”

“Crackdraff and Browntarn.”

“Crackdraff and Browntarn, huh? Let me take a look.”

Chef Norman pulled the vegetables out of the sack and examined them using various methods.

I wasn’t sure what standards he was using, but waiting in suspense was nerve-wracking.

“…Hmm. Not bad. Magari, they meet the restaurant’s standards.”

“Good to hear. Sato, we’ll buy everything you brought.”

“Thank you very much!”

I was relieved to know they passed the quality check.

Now, the only thing left was the price. Since it was just one large sack, I figured getting one gold coin would be a good deal.

“You also brought those rare vegetables, right? Show them to Norman too.”

“Understood. I’m offering them for free this time, so I’d appreciate it if you could tell me whether you’d be willing to buy them in the future.”

“Rare vegetables? Now I’m curious.”

Norman’s eyes sparkled with interest.

He usually seemed calm and collected, but the excitement over rare vegetables showed he was a true chef at heart.

“I brought three types today, all of which can be used in various ways.”

With that, I handed him tomatoes, eggplants, and potatoes.

I had bought these using NP (Nutritional Points), but since I was also growing them, I could sell them once production stabilized.

That said, Japanese crops were expensive, even when grown from seedlings, so unless they fetched a high price, I’d probably keep them for personal use.

“A bright red vegetable, a purple vegetable, and one that looks like Crackdraff. The first two have distinct appearances, and I’ve never seen them before. Definitely rare.”

“This red vegetable can be eaten raw, so please try it.”

“A vegetable that can be eaten raw? I’ll give it a taste.”

Norman cut a tomato and put a piece into his mouth.

The moment he did, he froze—then, after a brief pause, he finally began chewing.

“…W-what is this incredibly flavorful vegetable?! I’ve never had a raw vegetable this delicious before!”

“I’m glad you like it. These vegetables are difficult to produce, so they’ll be quite expensive. However, if you ever need them, I’d be happy to sell them to you.”

“I don’t care about the restaurant—I personally want them so badly! Let’s talk later!”

“Norman, you’re scaring people. As expected of someone from another world, you brought some amazing ingredients. I’ve never seen Norman this excited before.”

“Magari, let me talk to Sato!”

“You’re being too loud. Hey, someone, take Norman away for a bit.”

With his eyes wide and filled with excitement, Norman was swiftly escorted out by other chefs.

The fact that he, a professional, reacted so strongly from a single bite proved just how delicious Japanese ingredients were.

Someday, I’d love to have Norman create a dish using them.

“Sorry about Norman’s enthusiasm. Judging from his reaction, these rare vegetables must be quite special.”

“I think you’ll also find the other two delicious, so please try them yourself, Magari-san.”

“No, I don’t cook, so it would be a waste for me to eat such valuable ingredients. I’ll have Norman and the others test them to see what kind of dishes they work best in. You should look forward to it.”

“You’re a true professional, Magari-san. I’ll be looking forward to it.”

Magari-san smiled as he spoke, but I still wanted him to try them.

Since I had only brought one of each, that was my fault.

Someday, I’d make sure he got to taste Japan’s delicious vegetables.

With that in mind, I accepted the payment for the Crackdraff and Browntarn and left Magari-san’s restaurant, Gyuzel.

By the way, the selling price was much higher than I expected—I received six gold coins.

It might not seem like much, considering three people spent nearly a month tending the crops, but being able to turn them into money at all was a huge step forward.

With Japanese crops on hand and more experience, we’d be able to grow even more in the future.

The real results would come later.

For now, I’d deliver my thanks to Rozzo and head back to the villa to report to Lua and the others.
