Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 3. a small tear ( 1)

─ ─ Oh, shit, …… this is disgusting.

Standing at the back of the group, frowning silently, Kevin, a junior knight, swore in his stomach.

–What did Flora do? This is too much…

He glared piercingly at the back of Elliot’s head, his former colleague who had risen through the ranks as a holy knight, visible through the gap in the backs of his companions.  If he could, he felt like yelling at him and punching him in the face, but in this situation he was bound up with his own inferiority complex and self-preservation as a low-ranking knight, and pathetically, he couldn’t even raise his voice.

A group of knights dressed in formal attire in a thrifty tenement house in the corner of the civic district of the capital stood out whether they liked it or not. What’s more, the Holy Knight and Holy Maiden, who were now the talk of the town, were also there.

The only thing Kevin could do was to repeatedly beg his friend who was a royal magician to borrow his cloaking magic orb, and use it so that the other residents would not be aware of what was happening.

In the shadow of Elliot’s fame, his wife, Flora, was being subjected to the malice of those around her, which had nothing to do with her own actions – this is what Kevin’s girlfriend, who lives in the nearby downtown area, had told him.

It was unfortunate that Flora would attract even more unwanted attention.

I mean, no matter how you look at it, it’s cheating. And yet…

Outnumbering and overpowering, a large group of people barged into a single woman’s home to force her to leave her marriage. It was no different from intimidation, Kevin thought. But he knew in his head that he couldn’t say anything himself, since he was accompanying them as well, as a fellow knight.

Before he went off to defeat the undead, he and Elliott had been friends in a small way as fellow junior knights who had joined the Order at the same time.

From Kevin’s perspective, Elliott was a quiet, overly serious, and rather uninteresting person, but he was one of the few colleagues who never looked down on Kevin, who was an uneducated commoner, and one he could trust.

Before they were married, Elliot and Flora, and Kevin’s girlfriend Chelsea, all four of them had gone out to dinner together. Elliot was never good at socializing, so his relationship with him wasn’t that deep, but he felt that they were close enough to be considered friends.

Kevin, too, was not one to sit idly by and watch as the distance between Elliot, who had become a Holy Knight on the battlefield, and Saint Emily grew closer with each passing day.

At every opportunity, he would bring up the topic of Flora, who was waiting for him in the royal capital, to warn Elliot off, and had even admonished him seriously at times.

“I know.”

“I know,” he replied every time I admonished him, but in the end, he didn’t understand anything.

Despondency, disappointment, anger… I held my head down and endure these swirling emotions.

As Kevin looked down, a strand of fluffy golden hair brushed the edge of his vision.

–And this woman too… the nerve she has to follow him here. I don’t understand how she could be so stupid.

She had followed a man who had come to divorce his wife, saying that she would accompany her, and even tried to stand next to Elliott.

I hurriedly pulled Emily’s arm and tucked her behind the knights to keep her out of Flora’s sight as much as possible. I glared at her and told her to at least be quiet, and she quieted down, but even so, the sight of her stretching out to peer inside irked me.

“I just want to apologize…”

She had said this many times on the way here.

“You’re just apologizing because you want to be forgiven, it’s a nuisance.”

The words he muttered, unable to bear it any longer, seemed to have stung Emily more than he had expected.

The knight’s fellow knights tried and console Emily, who was lying on the ground because of the barbed words, but even that seemed foolish and irritated him even more. There were some who were incensed by the fact that a low-ranking knight had reproached the Saint, but for that moment they ignored it.

Although she is a saint that many of the knights revered, Kevin even has a dislike for Emily.

He admonished her many times on the battlefield that Elliot had a wife waiting for him in the royal capital.

I can’t have you saying that you didn’t know.

Even though she knew about his wife’s existence, she still approached Elliot, so what on earth was she apologizing for now?
