Chapter 11: At Lilina's Home

“This is Lilina’s house, huh?”

Guided by Lilina, I arrived at her home.

Though it couldn't be called large by any means, it was well-built and harmoniously blended with nature.

Now that I think about it, Lilina’s house is located a bit outside of town.

Looking at the trees visible through the window, I recalled this fact.

“Yes, it's a small place, but please make yourself comfortable. I need to step out for a moment.”

Lilina said apologetically before leaving me in the room and heading to the back.

Her expression was no longer the frightened one she had initially shown me.

This must be thanks to the conversations we had on the way here.

...Yeah, having the heroine be scared of me was quite a shock, so I’m really glad we managed to get closer quickly.

Thinking this, I watched the door Lilina had just gone through.

...That must be where her mother is resting.

According to the anime, Lilina was wandering the forest in search of the secret medicine for her sick mother.

Listening closely, I could hear Lilina talking to someone.

It sounded like an adult woman.

So, it seems the situation is playing out just like in the anime, except for Kane saving Lilina.

What kind of twist is it for the villain to rescue the heroine instead of the protagonist?

Thinking this, I sipped the tea Lilina had given me and waited for her.

After a while, Lilina returned to the room, her footsteps light.

“Sorry for the wait. I’ll start making the cookies now, so please relax.”

“No need to rush. Should I help with something?”

“Oh no! I can’t let a guest do that!”

Lilina said, waving her hands frantically to stop me from getting up.

“Ouch.”

“Lilina?! Does it still hurt?”

I asked, concerned.

“N-no, it’s just a little pain. It’s fine.”

She said, trying to brush it off with a smile, rubbing her hand.

“You were so injured yesterday; there’s no way you’re fully healed in just a day or so. You don’t have to push yourself to make cookies. Maybe you should rest instead?”

“Please, let me make them. I know you’re looking forward to it. Besides, beastmen recover faster than humans.”

Lilina said with a playful smile, though it looked a bit forced.

It was clear she was straining herself, but I felt pointing that out might just make her more stubborn.

We’re definitely going to need more potions.

But then again, I don’t have any money left.

“Hm?”

As I thought this, I felt something odd around my neck.

"Oh, I still have this."

"Lloyd-san?"

"Wait for me a bit. I'll be back by the time the cookies are done."

It seemed I still had some jewelry on me.

Clutching the necklace tightly, I decided to return to town, leaving the puzzled Lilina behind.

---

“I'm running out of things to sell.”

I thought to myself on the way back to town.

Is there really a point in doing so much for someone I just met?

Anyone who didn’t know the situation might think so if they saw me now.

But for me, there's a strong desire to help Lilina, no matter what it takes.

What I'm doing isn't some saintly act; it's just me repaying a perceived debt.

Perhaps the reason I reincarnated as the villain is that I can't act purely on a sense of justice like the protagonist of an anime.

Thinking this, I couldn't help but smile wryly.
