Chapter 136: End of the Experiment
Three female knights stood in the doorway, staring between the three of us with their mouths open. Their uniforms were marked with sweat and dirt, so they had probably come to use the shower room after training.
“Three Lord Juliuses?”
“There are more of him?!”
Their panic made Mira imitate their movements. I could distinguish Mira from Lionel easily, but the women naturally couldn’t.
Then Lionel’s commanding voice thundered from my small body.
“Calm down. Close the door first.”
One knight obeyed automatically, then became even more confused when she realised who had issued the order.
“Forgive us for startling you,” I said. “We’re testing a new potion. This one is Lionel, and this one is Mira.”
Their eyes widened further.
“C-Commander?!”
They saluted at once. No one expected the imposing commander to appear in my form.
Lionel seemed relieved that even his own subordinates had failed to identify him. If the disguise fooled experienced knights, it should fool foreign agents.
We explained the decoy operation to the three women. Only a small number of knights had been informed, and all three agreed to cooperate and keep the potion secret.
While we spoke, Lionel’s transformation began to wear off. He hurried into the changing room before his body returned to normal and split the clothing.
Mira, however, showed no sign of changing back.
“Don’t tell me they’ll remain like this permanently.”
I became increasingly anxious until Lionel emerged in his normal form.
The female knights stared again, finally convinced that the copied Julius really had been their commander.
“Lord Julius, would I also become you if I drank the potion?”
“Probably, but I haven’t tested it on a woman, and I’m not going to start simply because you look curious.”
Their enthusiasm was unsettling.
At last, Mira began to shrink. I needed to remove the oversized human clothing before it tangled around their returning dragon body, so I took them into the shower room and dealt with it myself.
Mira soon returned completely to normal. I checked their body carefully and found no injuries or changes. Their white fur remained as beautiful as ever.
In future, only a drop or two would be needed if I merely wanted a brief conversation. The effect should then last around ten minutes, and I could conduct the test privately in my room with a loose robe prepared in advance.
I washed Mira, dried them thoroughly with a towel and finished with drying magic. Magic was far quicker than even a well-designed hot-air tool.
The experiment had proven that the potion reproduced appearance and physical structure, but not mana, skills, personality or memories. It also caused significant fatigue, especially when the user moved intensely in the transformed body.
That information would be vital for the decoy operation.
