Chapter 221: At the Resting Pavilion
With Aeris supervising the staged process she had proposed, Tauro completed Ankh’s greatsword by noon. It had taken considerable time, effort, materials, and money, but he had finished it safely.
“Whew… It still consumed a lot of magic power, but thanks to your idea, I managed to finish it without nearly dying.”
Tauro sighed with relief and drank another magic-restoration potion.
He had consumed several potions during the work, but the long morning had nevertheless left him hungry.

Aeris encouraged him.
“It does, but it’s still far too much work to use this magic often.”
Tauro smiled wryly.
“It’s already past noon. Why don’t we have lunch at the Resting Pavilion? Ankh said he was going there to drink, so we may be able to give him the greatsword at the same time.”
Tauro’s stomach growled.
“I’m starving. I think I’ll have the ginger-grilled set meal today.”
He stored the wind-imbued magic greatsword in [Magic Storage], and the two returned to the village.
When they reached the Resting Pavilion, Ankh was nowhere in the dining room.
“Ankh isn’t here. I thought he said he’d be drinking here.”
“So did I. Maybe he grew tired of this place and went somewhere else.”
They searched the room but found no sign of him.
“Welcome. What would you like today?”
A female employee of the Resting Pavilion approached their table.
“The ginger-grilled set meal with a large serving of rice, please. What about you, Aeris?”
“The miso vegetable stir-fry set meal.”
Aeris had already decided and answered immediately.
“One ginger-grilled set and one miso vegetable stir-fry set. Tauro, the head chef also asked you to check the miso they prepared.”
The employee returned to the kitchen with their order.
“Come to think of it, they’ve started serving the miso they made and aged themselves.”
“Is that why you haven’t been making it for them lately?”
Aeris looked pleased.
“The restaurant can finally produce it independently.”
Tauro excused himself and went down to the basement kitchen to inspect the miso.
“Oh, Aeris. Where’s the leader? Are you alone?”
Ankh entered the dining room just after Tauro left.
“We were looking for you. Tauro’s downstairs in the kitchen. You said you were going drinking this morning, but you don’t smell of alcohol.”
Aeris leaned closer as though checking.
“Ah… I had an errand to finish first. I just completed it and came here for a drink.”
Ankh called to the employee and ordered miso-pickled vegetables and sake.
“Have you eaten? Join us for lunch.”
“Now that you mention it, it’s already past noon. Excuse me! Add a miso-marinated meat set meal, please.”
Ankh stopped the departing employee.
“Certainly. One miso-marinated meat set meal.”
The employee relayed the additional order to the kitchen.
“Ankh… are you hiding something from us?”
Whether it was intuition or something more, Aeris had clearly noticed his evasiveness.
“Come on. I’m twenty-six. Of course I have a secret or two. There are things I haven’t even told the leader, and he’s my roommate. You shouldn’t pry, Aeris.”
Ankh faced the question directly while still avoiding an answer.
“That’s not what I meant… but fine.”
“A good woman waits for a man to reveal his secrets instead of trying to uncover them herself. Ha ha ha!”
Ankh laughed, attempting to brush the matter aside.
“I have a fair idea what it is.”
Tauro suddenly appeared beside them.
He had approached using [Presence Concealment] to startle Ankh.
“Whoa! Don’t appear behind me like that, Leader!”
Ankh once again avoided responding to Tauro’s remark.
“Thank you for waiting. One ginger-grilled set meal, one miso vegetable stir-fry set meal, miso-pickled vegetables, and sake. The miso-marinated meat set will be ready shortly.”
The employee’s arrival ended the conversation, much to Ankh’s relief.
