Chapter 181: Ominous Signs

The dispute between the original and self-proclaimed members of Black-Gold Wings showed no sign of ending.

Aeris was right that Shin and Rumeya would never deliberately make such a selfish decision. However, Tauro could imagine the two good-natured men being pressured into accepting the women’s demands.

“For now, Aeris, calm down until we hear Shin and Rumeya’s side of the story.”

The other two women remained completely confident.

“Checking with them won’t change the fact that we’re Black-Gold Wings. Hmph!” Ren declared before walking away with Yu.

Aeris bristled at the remark, but then she noticed where the women were heading and turned pale.

“Tauro… aren’t they going toward our house?”

The possibility hadn’t occurred to him until she pointed it out.

Shin and Rumeya had been managing the rented house while Tauro and Aeris were away. Given their personalities, they might have decided there was no harm in letting someone else use it until the others returned.

Tauro and Aeris had taken their personal belongings with them in [Magic Storage], so the house had been nearly empty. It was entirely possible that Shin and Rumeya had inspected it and then lent it to Yu and Ren.

“Shin and Rumeya may have allowed those two to stay there…”

“Tauro… this is war. We’re going to settle once and for all who Black-Gold Wings belongs to!”

“No, no, Aeris. Calling it a war is going much too far…”

Tauro tried to calm her, but her expression was deadly serious.

“If you know your enemy, you can fight a hundred battles without defeat! Let’s go to the Adventurers’ Guild and gather information about those two vixens!”

Aeris snorted and marched toward the guild.

“Tauro! Aeris! You’re back! Welcome home!”

At the guild, they were greeted by Chloe, the usually cool-headed manager of the Dansas branch, whose voice was unusually animated.

“Chloe, we’re back!”

After returning the greeting, Tauro and Aeris immediately addressed the matter at hand.

“Chloe, I want to know what’s happened to Black-Gold Wings. Who are those two women?” Aeris asked, forcing herself to remain calm.

“Oh… did something happen? They came here from another town not long after you left. Shin and Rumeya needed people who could support them from the rear, and the four of them became acquainted at the tavern.”

“Does that mean Shin and Rumeya approached them first?” Tauro asked with a sigh.

“I don’t know. Yu and Ren were also searching for strong front-line fighters and asked the reception desk to introduce suitable candidates. I listed Shin and Rumeya among the possibilities, so they may already have known about them.”

“So Shin and Rumeya might not have initiated it!” Aeris seized on that possibility immediately.

“Yu and Ren are both rather forceful. Shin and Rumeya had also begun attracting attention because of how seriously they were working. Oh, that reminds me—they’ve both advanced to E-plus rank. The four of them have been active together lately, so we’re even considering promoting them to D-minus… Ah, that last part was supposed to be confidential.”

Tauro suddenly wondered whether there was any place left for him and Aeris to return to.

Aeris’s expression grew darker by the second.

“We still haven’t heard directly from Shin and Rumeya, so don’t assume the worst yet,” Tauro said.

“But they’re succeeding with those new members even without us!”

Tears welled in Aeris’s eyes.

Her concern was understandable. Shin and Rumeya had apparently advanced quickly while working with Yu and Ren, and Tauro didn’t know how to reassure her.

“Listen, you two,” Chloe said. “Shin and Rumeya were working hard because they wanted to surprise you when you returned. Besides, the guild has never received official paperwork adding Yu and Ren to Black-Gold Wings. Of course, some teams don’t formally register every change, so I can’t say with absolute certainty…”

Chloe’s attempt to reassure them gradually talked itself into a corner.

“That’s right, Aeris. Nothing is official, so let’s speak to them properly. More importantly, we’re the ones paying the rent on that house. Let’s go home and hear everyone out calmly.”

Tauro encouraged Aeris, thanked Chloe, and headed toward their house with her.

  1. I knew they would be leaving behind Dansas as well as Shin and Rumeya, but I didn’t expect it to happen like this.

    1. It’s been months that they’ve been gone plus, it seems Tauro’s training them would be reason they have 2 others with them.

They’re not taking it lightly on being adventurer’s that they could duo their quests (without some sort of support).

  2. Too short to read it wasn’t worth to wait for such a long released chapters. I blame this translator who are you doing this translation and ripped off by saying pay for the update? WTF! Shame on you man
