Chapter 175: Return from Another Dimension

Several hours had passed since Aeris, the only daughter of Marquis Van Dyne and the person the knights had been assigned to escort, had suddenly disappeared together with Tauro.

The escorting knights had searched every corner of the empty chamber, desperately looking for anything unusual or anything they might have overlooked.

The two had vanished without warning. Tsuyoku had realized that they had noticed something immediately before disappearing, but they were gone before he could determine what it was.

Wasn’t this exactly what had happened when Marquis Van Dyne disappeared?

According to the reports from that time, the marquis had vanished in an instant despite being surrounded by Royal Guard knights.

They had little choice but to assume that the same phenomenon had swallowed Tauro and Aeris.

Marquis Van Dyne’s remains had never been found. If the same fate had befallen the two children, then perhaps they were already…

“We searched for Marquis Van Dyne for a long time and never found a trace of him. We can’t remain here indefinitely. We’ll return for now, report what happened, and—”

Tsuyoku reluctantly decided to suspend the search.

“Wait, Captain! They clearly found something immediately before they vanished. There has to be something in this room. Let’s keep searching!” Taichi, the deputy commander, protested.

“It’s already been several hours. We have no clues, and we only prepared for a short visit. We need to return, organize a properly equipped search party, and come back.”

Taichi couldn’t refute the captain’s reasoning. At that moment, however, something suddenly struck him from behind and knocked him to the floor.

“Ow! Who shoved me in the middle of an important conversation?”

He spun around and saw Tauro, Aeris, and…

“Marquis Van Dyne?!”

Captain Tsuyoku was equally stunned by the sudden appearance of all three.

Marquis Van Dyne—the man who had been missing for several years and was widely presumed dead—was standing in the room.

The other escorting knights stared speechlessly at the three people who had materialized before them.

“One activation condition for the special skill [&%$#] has been fulfilled: <Return Alive from a Dungeon Distortion>. [Spatial Transfer] acquired.”

After Tauro, Aeris, and Marquis Van Dyne safely returned from the distortion, the familiar Voice of the World echoed inside Tauro’s mind.

The dimensional rift vanished as soon as the three emerged, as though the dungeon’s distortion had disappeared once the person trapped inside it was gone.

There was no longer any way to confirm his theory, but Tauro wondered whether Aeris had been able to see the dungeon-created distortion because she possessed both the Bow of Artemis, which had originated from a dungeon, and the labyrinth’s dungeon core, which she wore as a pendant.

Whatever the reason, the escorting knights erupted in cheers and rushed toward Marquis Van Dyne.

He had returned after several years. Faced with such a miracle, their excitement was only natural.

“You’re alive, Marquis Van Dyne!”

“We thought you were dead!”

“Thank goodness you returned safely…”

The escorting knights and Marquis Van Dyne were old comrades who had shared years of danger, hardship, and triumph while exploring dungeons together.

“Now, now, you’re all overreacting! I was only gone for three days. Though I suppose even three days can be fatal inside a dungeon…”

From Marquis Van Dyne’s perspective, only about three days had passed while he was trapped in the other dimension.

Time had moved far more slowly there than it did in the outside world.

Tauro had suspected as much when he discovered that the marquis was still alive despite having been missing for several years. That was why he had hurried Aeris and her father out of the other dimension without allowing their reunion to delay them.

“Marquis Van Dyne, several years have passed in our world since you disappeared. Aeris visited the chamber where you vanished and happened to discover a distortion created by the dungeon. We entered it and found you inside.”

Tauro explained the situation as simply as possible so everyone could understand.

“Several years…? I never imagined so much time had passed. Thank you, Aeris. My precious daughter, you freed me from that prison.”

Marquis Van Dyne embraced her.

Aeris had repeatedly told herself that her father was dead and had almost succeeded in accepting it. Confronted with this sudden reversal, she clung to him and sobbed, unable to hold back her tears.

The others quietly stepped away and watched the father and daughter’s emotional reunion with warm smiles.
