Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 166: Resolution

After leaving the office, Tauro headed back toward the reception room. He hadn’t gone far when he encountered the elderly chief steward who had treated Mei and the longtime servants so harshly.

The man looked Tauro up and down with open contempt.

“Why is a commoner child wandering through this part of the residence? You had better not have stolen anything.”

“Perhaps I was planning to steal something on my way back. Would you like to follow me and make sure?” Tauro replied.

“Mind your tongue! I’m the chief steward of House Van Dyne.”

“For the moment.”

“What did you say?”

The steward’s face reddened. He reached for Tauro, but the boy slipped aside before the man could touch him.

Footsteps sounded from the corridor. Mei appeared with several Royal Guard knights.

“Mei, what’s the meaning of this? Why have you brought the Royal Guard inside? I’ll report this to the Marchioness. Do you think she’ll forgive you?”

The steward advanced on her, but Mei met his glare without flinching.

“You’re obstructing us. Move aside. I no longer care whether the Marchioness forgives me.”

The knights stepped between them and pushed the steward back.

“We must hurry,” Mei told Tauro.

One knight restrained the protesting steward while Tauro and Mei continued toward the reception room.

Inside, the confrontation between Aeris and her mother had become increasingly bitter.

“Uwaakin acted on his own. I had nothing to do with any of it,” the Marchioness insisted. “Do you truly believe I would try to kill my own daughter? You accuse your mother without a shred of evidence. How cruel. My poor baby and I are the real victims.”

Whenever Aeris challenged her, the Marchioness performed for sympathy, shifted the blame to someone else, and demanded proof.

Aeris finally understood that her mother had never truly loved anyone but herself. Even Uwaakin had become disposable now that he was dead. She blamed every crime on him without showing the slightest grief.

“You kept the evidence, Mother,” Aeris said coldly.

“I have no idea what you mean.”

“The kidnapping and assassination contracts failed repeatedly. You wouldn’t destroy the agreements while you were still trying to recover the advance payments you gave the Assassins’ Guild.”

“What evidence? That man dies, and you immediately begin accusing me of everything.”

“You brought your lover into our home the day after Father disappeared.”

“What a horrible accusation. Uwaakin merely comforted me while I was grieving.”

“Don’t rewrite what happened. You dismissed the steward and servants who had served Father for years because they objected and stood in your way.”

Aeris rose, no longer able to contain her anger.

At that moment, Tauro, Mei, and the Royal Guard knights entered.

“Mei! Who gave you permission to come in here?” the Marchioness demanded.

Tauro removed a bundle of documents from [Magic Storage].

“These are the contracts and written orders connecting you to the Assassins’ Guild. They cover Marquis Van Dyne’s abduction, Aeris’s kidnapping and planned murder, and the attempts to assassinate me.”

The Marchioness went pale.

“Those are forged! The real documents are in the safe. I have the key right here!”

She pulled a key from a concealed pocket in her dress and held it up.

“That admission supports their authenticity,” Tauro said. “These documents came from the safe. Knights, please take her into custody.”

The Royal Guard seized both of the Marchioness’s arms and led her from the room.

“Aeris, help me! That little devil deceived everyone! Please!”

Her voice faded down the corridor of the Van Dyne residence.

“It’s finally over,” Aeris whispered.

The anger drained out of her, and she sank back into her chair.

“Yes,” Tauro said. “House Van Dyne is yours again.”

Mei approached with tears running down her face.

“Lady Aeris, I’ve waited so long for you to return.”

“You endured so much for me, Mei. I’m sorry.”

The two women embraced and wept openly, no longer needing to hide their relief.
