Chapter 52: The Strongest Witch

The bat-faced magician, who was clinging tightly to Ōhinata with a wary expression, was highly sensitive to magic energy, making it impossible for the Blue Witch to approach. Even if she tried to attack from a distance using magic, he would likely sense the movement of magic energy and evade it. His perception was that sharp.

However, Hanada Sakunosuke’s dynamite suicide bombing was purely physical—it had nothing to do with magic.

Because of this, the explosion that shattered the walls of the room caught the bat-faced magician completely off guard, diverting his attention significantly.

From behind the large clock in the university’s central tower, where she had been hiding, the Blue Witch seized this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and sprang into action.

She aimed Kyanos at the bat-faced magician. However, despite finally letting his guard down, he was still too close to Ōhinata. What if she accidentally caught her in the blast?

That moment of hesitation was swept away by a third party’s intervention.

Something small, barely visible and almost imperceptible in presence, suddenly flew through the hole in the wall created by the explosion and tackled the bat-faced magician, sending him flying.

The Blue Witch clenched her fist unconsciously.

She was not the only one who had been waiting for the right moment.

As the bat-faced magician crashed into a pile of stacked projectors and printers, the Blue Witch channeled her restrained yet ice-cold killing intent and began chanting a lethal spell.

“This spear is forged from Du—××× ice, Vaara snow, and Dzaara sorrow, Kunnei Sicel.”

A pure white trident, compressed from freezing air, formed instantly and shot downward at a speed that left an afterimage and outran sound itself.

In the blink of an eye, it pierced through four floors of the building, impaling the bat-faced magician from head to groin, nailing him to the ground, and killing him instantly.

Suddenly, the university erupted into chaos.

Her first attack had given away her position. Until she eliminated the runaway magician, she wouldn’t be able to use Kyanos again for a while.

The Blue Witch intended to rush to Ōhinata’s aid, but she soon noticed that the small figure from earlier was already dragging her away at an impressive speed, pulling her down the hallway and away from the battlefield.

She could have kissed them for such a brilliant move. She would make sure to thank them properly once the fight was over.

But first, she had to clean up.

She quickly assessed the overall situation.

The Aratake boss had been caught in the dynamite explosion at point-blank range, but he was still alive and struggling to get back on his feet at the blast site.

“Freezing Javelin, Du Vaara.”

With Kyanos now secured at her waist, the Blue Witch fired a quick succession of unarmed magic shots, slamming the boss into the ground before leaping out from behind the large clock and soaring high into the sky.

Her destination was the first-floor shop in the university’s south wing, where the runaway magician and their two bodyguard witches were stationed.

“!? Sis, fall back! We are the Naute Fortress, Dodd!”

Her bold movement naturally caught their attention.

The red-haired bodyguard witch chanted a spell, and a glowing, semi-transparent, sturdy barrier materialized in front of her, blocking the Blue Witch’s path.

Midair, the Blue Witch flipped her body and kicked off the barrier, propelling herself down to the ground in one swift motion.

“Boil over, ××× my blood, ×× Deeni.”

Then, from a beast-like low stance, she exploded forward, smashing through the barrier with sheer force and tackling the red-haired witch to the ground, pinning her down.

As the struggling witch desperately tried to chant a spell, the Blue Witch shoved the barrel of her sidearm into her mouth and pulled the trigger—while simultaneously casting an unarmed magic attack at the runaway magician, who was frantically attempting to flee.

“This spear is forged from Du—××× ice, Vaara snow, and Dzaara sorrow, Kunnei Sicel.”

In the blink of an eye, the runaway magician was impaled from the back through the heart and hoisted into the air, transforming into a grotesque monument of death.

For a witch who had bodyguards assigned to her, she was surprisingly fragile.

The magic energy she had been preparing for a second shot was instead redirected to the bodyguard, who was coughing up blood and teetering on the edge of consciousness.

“This spear is forged from Du—××× ice, Vaara snow, and Dzaara sorrow, Kunnei Sicel.”

The bodyguard, unable to speak after five bullets had been shot into her mouth at point-blank range, had her head crushed by the white trident and died.

In just over ten seconds, three witches and one magician had perished.

Only two remained in the university.

The Blue Witch once again gripped Kyanos, her cold magic energy surging.

A massive wave of magic spread from her throughout the university, coating the area in a thick layer of white frost.

The Ice Queen had ascended her throne.

The Aratakie underlings who had been roaming the university in packs fell into a state of total panic, each desperately trying to flee.

However, several of them, clustered together in their retreat, were suddenly sent flying into the sky.

As the frozen ranks of underlings stood paralyzed in fear, parting before him, a bald magician—known as the gang’s lieutenant—emerged with an enraged expression.

Was that supposed to be a magic staff?

He pointed a crude weapon—a mere wooden stick with a magic stone attached to it—toward the Blue Witch and roared with the face of a true demon.

“Woman—! Don’t think you’re walking out of here alive! From the abyssal chasm of the earth, Gyaaga rises, Boowooroo—”

“Freezing Javelin, Du Vaara.”

Before the lieutenant could finish his incantation, the Blue Witch precisely aimed and fired, interrupting him mid-chant.

The Freezing Javelin spell had an incredibly short incantation, high power, efficiency, range, and speed, making it an exceptionally well-balanced and versatile spell.

When combined with the Blue Witch’s masterful control over magic, its potency was further amplified, and even its accuracy reached new heights.

The lieutenant attempted to dodge the ice spear, but he was too slow—his cheek was grazed, and his spell was interrupted.

His expression twisted in disbelief.

Even as he desperately tried to start another chant, the Blue Witch showed no mercy.

“This spear is forged from Du—××× ice, Vaara snow, and Dzaara sorrow, Kunnei Sicel.”

With Kyanos amplifying its power, yet another impaled corpse was created.

Witnessing the sheer brutality of the one-sided slaughter, the remaining underlings completely lost their will to fight.

Some wet themselves, while others collapsed to their knees, sobbing and begging for their lives.

Mopping up the small fry could wait.

The Blue Witch turned her attention to the final magician remaining.

After Hanada Sakunosuke’s self-destruction, the Blue Witch delivered a single warning shot to the still-living boss. However, while the ice spear magic was effective for keeping an opponent in check, it wasn’t the kind of spell that could deal a fatal blow to a magic user.

By now, he should have already stood up and attacked—whether with magic or his fists.

Facing him again, the Blue Witch could now clearly see the extent of his injuries.

The front of his body was blackened with burns, swollen red, and his jaw was completely shattered.

No wonder no magic support had come his way. With a jaw in that condition, proper pronunciation was impossible.

The boss didn’t show any intent to flee from the approaching Blue Witch. Instead, dragging his battered body, his legs twitching irregularly, he took slow, deliberate steps toward her.

Just like the underboss before him, the men of the Aratake group—at least the witches and wizards among them—possessed remarkable fighting spirit.

Despite being a defeated general, he walked with an imposing stride, pointing at the Blue Witch, then at himself, before raising his fists.

Since he could no longer speak, he had no choice but to communicate his intent through gestures.

The Blue Witch understood his message perfectly.

A one-on-one fight. With fists.

But there was no reason whatsoever for her to accept such a demand.

She stepped within the range of her guaranteed-hit trident spell, pointed Kyanos at the half-dead man, and began chanting a spell to finish him off.

“This spear is forged from the frozen ×××, the snow of Vaarla, and the sorrow of Dzaarla—Kunnei, Siseru!”

The ice-formed trident shot out at unimaginable speed, too fast for the eye to follow, and struck the boss.

Yet, rather than piercing through him, it only managed to lodge itself shallowly into his flesh.

He staggered but remained standing, yanking the spear from his chest and discarding it.

Then, with an overwhelming, almost demonic presence, he continued stepping toward the Blue Witch.

“……!?”

The Blue Witch furrowed her brows in caution.

Something was off.

It wasn’t just that his body was tough.

It was as if magic itself wasn’t working properly on him—as if he had some kind of resistance to it.

As she observed his advancing form, a strange realization struck her.

Most likely, he was of the same kind as her.

Though he wielded different magic, he was of the same race—one that lacked a heart and possessed a high resistance to cold.

Even with Kyanos enhancing her magic, ice-based spells were proving ineffective.

His resistance wasn’t absolute, but it was enough to dull the effects.

She could still kill him by brute force if necessary, but she decided on another approach.

This half-dead fossil of a man, demanding a one-on-one brawl as his final act, was beyond irritating.

So she stepped forward and grabbed both of his hands.

The boss grinned savagely through his burnt face and tightened his grip, attempting to overpower her.

His strength was on par with—or perhaps even greater than—that of the Dragon Witch.

The ground beneath them cracked and sank under the sheer force of their struggle.

But she had no intention of playing along with his challenge.

While locking hands with him, she quietly chanted a spell.

A spell requiring physical contact, long incantation, and immense magical energy—yet its power was beyond compare.

“Boil, ×××, my ×× blood—Deenit. My ×× rage—Gyuna. Your Hatobato blood, Deenit—drain it to the last drop, Dawaatag. Let it be an offering to your ancestors, and ×× redemption—Kuwawa!”

The blood magic activated, enveloping the boss in a gruesome crimson mist.

He groaned in agony, coughing up blood, and desperately tried to resist with his own magic control.

But there was no way he could match the Blue Witch.

His feeble resistance was torn apart like paper.

From every hole in his body, from every open wound, blood and magic burst forth.

His body dried up like a withered tree.

And then—he died.

Taking a deep breath, the Blue Witch looked around and noticed the students and professors watching from a distance, holding their breath.

The crowd had yet to fully grasp that the ordeal was over.

She didn’t care.

Only Ohinata mattered.

Thinking so, the Blue Witch laid the dead boss down at the base of the water tower and was about to head toward the small figure bouncing around to get her attention.

But then, she suddenly recalled Assistant Professor Nanase’s words.

If she was going to move forward instead of dwelling on the past, she couldn’t just stick with Ohinata and Dairi alone.

This time, the Magic University had stood together as one.

Not a single person had betrayed them.

Everyone had done their utmost in their own way.

They were people she could trust.

The Blue Witch stopped, turned back, and raised Kyanos in response to the watching crowd.

“Rejoice! The Magic University has been liberated! This victory is yours!”

As an explosion of cheers erupted behind her, the Blue Witch briskly made her way back to Ohinata.

The main witches and wizards of the Aratake Group, who had attacked the heart of the Tokyo Witches’ Assembly, were now completely wiped out.

Only a few scattered witches remained, attacking various parts of Tokyo from different directions.

But the Dragon Witch, eager to claim magic stones, would undoubtedly hunt down the stragglers with glee.

If she struggled, the Blue Witch wouldn’t mind lending a hand.

The leader of the Aratake Group was dead. There was no one left to hold the organization together.

With the Blue Witch and her allies reclaiming the Magic University, the Aratake Group’s assault on Tokyo had, for all intents and purposes, come to an end.
