Chapter 35: Touring the Royal Capital

“Thank you for your hard work, Leonhart-sama.”

“Ah, thank you, Celia.”

After finishing the prickly conversation with Anneliése, I returned to my seat, and Celia greeted me with a concerned expression, her eyebrows slightly furrowed. She must have overheard my exchange with Anneliése.

“Oh, right, Celia. About the matter of atonement, make sure to think it through properly. I’m willing to do anything.”

“Anything at all?”

“Yes, of course.”

“In that case…”

“Are you sure that’s all?”

Her request was so simple that I tilted my head in disbelief, wondering if something so small would truly suffice.

 ◇

The next day. Even at the magic academy, there are holidays. On these days, there are no lectures, and the students enjoy their freedom.

“Have you been waiting long?”

“No, I just arrived myself.”

On such a morning, for some reason, Celia and I were meeting at the school gate.

Even though we live in the same room in the boys’ dormitory, why are we meeting at the school gate?

“Please escort me, Leonhart-sama.”

“Ah, sure.”

While I was wondering, Celia reached out her hand to me.

I opened my left arm, and Celia smoothly linked her arm with mine.

With Celia suddenly so close, I felt my heart race a little.

From an outsider’s perspective, could this look like an inappropriate relationship between a noble and a maid?

“Come, let’s go quickly.”

“Yeah…”

Today, Celia seemed more assertive than usual.

Well, her wish was to have me all to herself for the day, and I’m here to fulfill her desire.

The two of us boarded a carriage and left the academy.

We visited various sightseeing spots in the royal capital, getting off the carriage to stroll around whenever something caught our interest. It was a laid-back, aimless journey.

“Look, Leonhart-sama! Doesn’t that look delicious?”

“Yeah, it really does.”

Even so, Celia seemed to be having a great time. When Celia’s happy, I end up enjoying myself too.

At a popular restaurant, we ate the royal capital’s specialties like Grilled Wurst and Curry Wurst. It was so delicious that I ended up eating most of it myself, but Celia just watched me with a cheerful laugh. I felt a bit embarrassed.

In the afternoon, we continued to wander around the royal capital in the carriage.

Of course, we avoided places like the victory monument against the Leclerc Kingdom. Even if I look like this, I’m a considerate guy.

“Leonhart-sama, they have gelato! Would you like some?”

Looking ahead, I noticed a long line on the other side of the carriage. Apparently, there was a gelato shop at the end of it. It seemed very popular. I wonder if it’s really that good?

“Yeah, I think I’ll have some.”

“I’ll go buy it!”

“No, let’s stand in line together. If we talk, we’ll forget about the time.”

“Oh my!”

Even though I was just being honest, Celia’s eyes widened, and she looked a little shy.

Then, with a blushing face, she opened her mouth. Her soft-looking lips left a strong impression on me.

“Shall we line up together then…?”

“Yeah, let’s do that.”

We got down from the carriage and joined the end of the line.

“Leonhart-sama, you’re not very much like a typical noble, are you?”

“Is that so?”

Well, it’s true that the spirit of a modest citizen from my past life in Japan still lingers strongly.

“I’m sorry if I offended you. I didn’t mean it in a bad way. What I meant was that you’re not as arrogant as other nobles. Most wouldn’t stand in line like this—they would just have someone buy the gelato for them. Actually, they wouldn’t even bother standing in line in the first place. They would just order their coachman to do it.”

“I see.”

That might indeed be the case. I was told from a young age that I wasn’t good at managing servants, but perhaps that too is influenced by memories of my past life, where I wasn’t used to commanding others.

“Even now, it’s the same. Instead of ordering me, a slave, you naturally consider it appropriate to line up yourself.”

“Should I act more like a noble?”

“No. Leonhart-sama is perfect the way you are now. Please stay as the kind Leonhart-sama. I prefer you that way.”

“!?”

Hearing the word “prefer” from Celia’s mouth made me suddenly self-conscious.

As soon as I became aware of Celia’s slender arm entwined around my left arm and her body pressed close to mine, it was over for me.

My heart was pounding so hard it felt like it might leap out of my mouth.

Celia, seeing me like that, smiled cheerfully.

After that, we bought ten gelatos, including one for the coachman, and quickly returned to the carriage.

Hmm? One for the coachman, one for Celia, and eight for me, right?

“Thank you for today, Leonhart-sama.”

Late at night. As I returned to my room in the boys’ dormitory of the academy, just in time for curfew, Celia bowed her head deeply.

“Don’t worry about it. I had fun too. In fact, I’m a little concerned if this was enough to fulfill your request. Wasn’t there something you wanted?”

“No. I received plenty today.”

“Really?”

“Yes!”

Something I gave Celia? I can’t think of anything besides the wurst and the gelato, but were those what she really wanted?
