Just another Isekai Lover~
Chapter 32: Meddling
The boring entrance ceremony was over, and Celia and I arrived in the classroom. The classroom was arranged like a music hall, with a gently tiered design.
There were no attendance numbers or assigned seats, so Celia and I took the seats right in the middle at the very back. From here, we could see the entire classroom clearly.
“Is this seat okay for you, Celia? Can you see the blackboard?”
“Yes, it’s fine.”
Just seeing Celia’s smiling face made me feel like I was on cloud nine.
“What’s that? A maid?”
“That neck, isn’t that a slave?”
“Why would a slave be here?”
“Who’s that fat guy with the slave?”
“He’s probably a dropout from Clarvain.”
“Oh, the one with only one attribute.”
“He used to have six attributes, but now he’s down to one.”
“Must have a really bad personality, huh?”
They seem to be drawing attention. And it’s clear they don’t look favorably upon us. It’s as if they’re looking at something ugly or dirty.
“Um, Leonhart-sama, maybe I should leave…”
“It’s fine. Those above the count rank are allowed to bring their attendants. That’s why Celia can attend classes with me.”
“But…”
“Don’t worry about the noise.”
Now that I think about it, in the game, Leonhart also had Celia attend classes like this.
He probably wanted to give Celia a chance to learn.
Well, it did cause various problems, though…
“Oh! Engelbrecht, is that him?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
I have a bad feeling about this…
“Hey, you’re the noble who’s bringing a slave with you, right?”
Turning towards the voice, I saw a handsome man with blonde hair and blue eyes. Behind him was Engelbrecht, whom I dueled yesterday. Both of them were glaring at me with harsh expressions.
“If the slave you’re referring to is Celia, then yes.”
“Celia, huh? That’s a cute name. Just wait a moment, will you? I’m going to beat this fat guy up and free Celia right away.”
They’re starting off very aggressively…
Come to think of it, there was an event like this in the game. The game’s protagonist challenges Leonhart to duels multiple times and ultimately frees Celia from slavery.
It sounds like a heroic story of good deeds, but when you’re on the receiving end, it’s really unbearable…
“So, fat guy over there, duel me! For Celia’s freedom!”
“Why should I duel you? Engelbrecht, is this your doing?”
“You can think of it that way if you want. Here, Julian. Just throw these gloves at him.”
“Got it!”
Julian, the game’s protagonist, grabbed the gloves handed to him by Engelbrecht and threw them at me.
The gloves hit my stomach and stayed there, resting on my belly.
If I avoid the duel now, I’d be called a coward and couldn’t argue back.
“You’re Julian, right? Do you understand the meaning of a duel?”
“Huh? I win and free Celia-chan. Isn’t that all there is to it?”
Julian responded to my words with a puzzled look.
I suppose that, in your mind, your victory is already assured. That’s why such ridiculous statements come out.
“If you’re demanding Celia’s release, you should wager something of equal value yourself.”
Ideally, I’d like to avoid getting involved in these petty duels in the future.
I’d prefer Julian to hesitate before challenging me to a duel.
“I’m going to win. There’s no need for that, right?”
“Not a chance. Decide what you’ll offer if you lose first. Only come talk to me after that’s settled.”
“Huh? Are you trying to back out?”
Julian glared at me, but I could only be amazed by his foolishness.
“You’re the one backing out, Julian. You’re just avoiding the possibility of your own defeat. Engelbrecht.”
“What is it?”
“You should also consider what you’ll wager. You lost yesterday, after all.”
“Damn it!?”
Engelbrecht’s face twisted into a grimace. It seemed the duel from yesterday was a rather unpleasant memory for him.
“Then let’s do this. I’ve heard slaves are bought and sold for money. Though I’m against that idea, it means we should wager money, right? How about ten gold coins?”
Engelbrecht puffed out his chest as if to say, “What do you think of that?”
But…
Just ten gold coins? The next count is quite stingy.
“Not acceptable. I’ll give you ten gold coins to stay out of our affairs.”
“That won’t do. You’re saying the amount is too low, right? How about twenty gold coins?”
“Ugh… At least prepare ten times that amount.”
“Two hundred coins!? That’s extortion!”
“What are you talking about, not even knowing the market for slaves? In the first place, I find Celia to be priceless to the point where I can’t even convert her into money. If you’re going to forcefully take her, at least show a bit more sincerity.”
“Grr…”
“Don’t worry, Engelbrecht! I’m definitely going to win!”
“Alright… Two hundred gold coins.”
Pressed by Julian’s insistence, Engelbrecht reluctantly nodded in a strained voice.
