Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 69: No Trouble Caused Yet

It seemed the troublesome King of Admos had made a comeback, so I asked Mona to do some reconnaissance. She returned with some peculiar information.

“A saint of the slums?”

What’s with that over-the-top, cringey nickname?

“Yes. The royal palace of Admos was as lax as ever in counterespionage, so it was easy to gather information. Most of it aligned with your predictions, Kenta-sama, except for one surprising detail: the origin of the rumor that you’re trying to take control of Lindor. It came from none other than the King of Admos.”

“What?! Seriously? That guy’s behind it?”

Man, what should I even do with that king…

If he weren’t Eva’s father, I would have dealt with him long ago. While Eva doesn’t seem to think highly of him, he’s still her blood relative.

If I were to deal with him myself, it would definitely stir some complicated feelings for her. In such a small group, creating unnecessary tension would be a bad move.

As it stands…

“Ugh… It’s so embarrassing. I wish he’d just abdicate and hand over the throne to my brother already.”

She seemed to want him to step down but didn’t wish for his death.

If she weren’t Nara’s wife, I’d have sent her packing ages ago.

“So, since I wrapped up my intel gathering quickly, I decided to take a look around the town as well.”

Mona said.

“And that’s where you heard the rumors about this ‘saint of the slums’?”

“Yes. I was curious, so I decided to check it out…”

Mona’s expression turned somewhat awkward at that point.

“What’s wrong?”

“Well, the person being referred to as the ‘saint’ was… that guy, Ota.”

“Pfft!”

Hearing this, Nara, who had just returned from farming and was drinking coffee, spat it out in shock.

“Cough, cough!”

“Whoa, gross! What are you doing?”

“Sorry… It’s just… I never thought that Ota would be called a saint.”

“Well, based on what I’ve heard from you, he’s far from saintly.” I

Ota, who used his forced summoning as an excuse to skip proper training, avoided productive work, and spent his days with brothel women, was now being called a saint?

No wonder Nara spit out his drink.

“So, why’s he got that nickname?”

“Apparently, when the King of Admos summoned healers from across the kingdom to treat him, Ota stepped in to provide healing magic to the townspeople in their absence.”

“Huh, so that’s how he became the ‘saint of the slums’?”

Well, I guess it’s not strange for people to call him that if he filled the gap left by the absent healers.

But Mona shook her head.

“To be honest, his healing magic skills are rather poor. That said, human healing magic users are generally even worse…”

“So even if it’s bad, it’s still better than what human healers can manage, right?”

“No. It seems the nickname came from the fact that he offered healing magic treatments at extremely low prices.”

Hearing that, I couldn’t help but look up to the heavens.

“Ah, Ota, you really messed up this time.”

Nara tilted his head in confusion.

“Huh? What do you mean?”

Oh, right.

Nara’s been in the royal castle the whole time, so he probably doesn’t know about this.

“Listen, Nara. I’ve mentioned before that there are a few humans who can use magic, right?”

“Yeah, and you said most of them become healers because it’s lucrative.”

“Exactly. But even so, there aren’t many magic users to begin with, so the number of healers is limited.”

“Right.”

“So let me ask you: if you had to choose between a healer who can use magic and one who can’t, which would you pick?”

“Obviously, the one who can use magic. Even if it’s not great, it’s better than nothing, right?”

“Exactly. And most people think the same way. Now here’s the problem: if both types of healers charge the same price, which one will attract more patients?”

“The healer who can use magic…”

He trailed off, seemingly realizing the issue himself.

“If the price is the same, patients will flock to the healer who can use magic. And what happens then?”

“The non-magic healers won’t get any patients…”

“And the magic healers will get overwhelmed with too many patients to treat.”

At that, everyone except Ivern and Yulia, who were already familiar with the situation, nodded in understanding.

“That’s why it’s been a longstanding rule in the medical community to charge higher fees for treatments involving healing magic. Breaking that rule will…”

It would definitely cause an uproar among non-magic healers.

“Mona, sorry to trouble you, but could you head back to Admos and find out what happens to Ota?”

“Understood.”

The next day, Mona set off for Admos again and returned before evening.

“Huh? That was quick.”

When I said that to Mona, who had returned on her flying board, she smiled wryly and replied:

“By the time I arrived, he had already been kicked out of the clinic due to fierce protests from the medical association. Apparently, he had occupied the clinic without permission while the regular doctor was away at the royal castle.”

“Wow, that escalated fast.”

So, Ota’s already been booted out, huh?

Still, offering cheap healing magic treatments in a town where healers are absent—it sounds like something straight out of a medical isekai power fantasy.

Maybe Ota was aiming for that kind of scenario.

But in reality, there are doctors who don’t use healing magic, and if he can’t get along with those people, this is what happens.

From what Nara has told me, Ota’s quite the otaku, and it seems like his knowledge of otherworldly tropes is working against him here, preventing him from fitting into this world.

I’m starting to feel that way.

Still, his goal is clear: get exiled, become overpowered, then have a “too little, too late” moment, followed by a harem plotline.

But none of it’s working out for him.

Since Ota hasn’t caused me any trouble, I actually feel a bit sympathetic toward him.

I wonder what he’s going to do now, given how poorly things are going.

That thought intrigued me a little.

However—

I had no idea that this reconnaissance on Ota would lead to an unexpected turn of events.
