Chapter 28: The King of Admos’s Miscalculations
The Kingdom of Weimar, the Kingdom of Lindor, and the Demon Kingdom share borders with the Kingdom of Admos.
That kingdom was currently in the midst of turmoil.
“Weimar has declared war!? What in the world is going on!?”
The King of Admos was shocked by the report from his officials and yelled at the one who brought it to him.
“W-Well, even though you say that… just earlier, a messenger from Weimar suddenly told us that.”
“What does that mean!? Our relationship with Weimar hasn’t been hostile, has it?!”
“Th-That’s the thing…”
The official paused before relaying the words from Weimar’s messenger to the king.
“Weimar soldiers were slaughtered by Admos, and moreover, Weimar’s survival has been put at risk. This act cannot be forgiven. Weimar has declared war on Admos and asserts its legitimacy… that is what they said.”
“I… I don’t understand…”
The King of Admos, genuinely confused, held his head in his hands.
He could understand why they couldn’t forgive the killing of Weimar soldiers, but beyond that…
Weimar’s survival being threatened? What could that possibly mean?
And claiming legitimacy by declaring war? What kind of reasoning is that?
The context didn’t add up. It felt like they were forcing together some illogical explanation.
“What is Weimar thinking… by the way, is it true that our soldiers killed Weimar’s?”
“It seems that way.”
“…Why did this happen…?”
As the King of Admos struggled to comprehend, the official cautiously made another suggestion.
“Actually… the head of an Admos soldier who was killed has been sent to us…”
“What!? You’re saying they executed him in Weimar?!”
“Y-Yes, I’ve confirmed it as well. It’s definitely one of our soldiers.”
The King of Admos was skeptical of this report.
“Was Weimar really such a war-hungry nation? Sure, they’d be furious that their soldiers were killed, but in the past, they’d have just demanded compensation in exchange for handing over the body, right?”
“…I’m not sure. But, it’s true that our soldier’s head was sent back.”
“…I see… And? What happened that caused this soldier to kill a Weimar soldier?”
“The soldier didn’t give us many details, but… the soldier who was executed was part of the operation.”
That operation referred to a plan to negotiate with Kenta by taking a close associate of his as a hostage.
Upon hearing this, the King of Admos realized that the operation had failed, and he grimaced. But soon, another thought occurred to him.
“Why would our soldiers kill Weimar soldiers while carrying out that operation? Was Weimar providing bodyguard services for him?”
Hearing this, the official recalled something.
“Now that you mention it… Weimar was the only one to lift the bounty on his head…”
At that moment, both the King of Admos and the official suddenly had a realization.
“Weimar… they’ve submitted to Kenta’s military command!!”
The King of Admos shouted out loud.
The lifted bounty on Kenta’s head.
The clash with Weimar soldiers during the operation to recruit Kenta.
It all made sense now. Weimar must have fallen under Kenta’s military command and clashed with their soldiers who were guarding him.
The King of Admos was now certain that he had solved the mystery.
“So, this declaration of war must have been ordered by Kenta Maya himself.”
“That’s probably the case.”
“Tch! Weimar… to fall under his command so easily… It’s pathetic! Hey!! Immediately call all the ministers! Prepare for war!!”
“Y-Yes, Your Majesty!!”
The official quickly answered and rushed out of the room.
The King of Admos, who had been watching the official leave, sank deeper into his chair.
“Weimar… no matter how strong they are, I never expected they would bow down to a mere individual. I never imagined they had fallen so low.”
With those words, the King of Admos grinned.
“Well, it doesn’t matter. A nation as fallen as that will be a perfect target for my Admos to invade and annex. By doing so, our national power will double. We’ll be able to stand toe-to-toe, if not surpass, the Demon Kingdom. And then…”
The King of Admos, imagining the glorious future that this war would bring, smiled to himself in the royal office.
