Just another Isekai Lover~
Chapter 2: The Only One
After hearing my outburst, the princess stood there, stunned, before slumping her shoulders in defeat.
“…I understand… Sorry for causing a scene. I apologize.”
For the first time since arriving, she bowed her head.
“Y-Your Highness…”
“Enough. Say no more.”
When the loudmouthed knight tried to speak to her, she cut him off with a quiet but firm voice, one she hadn’t used before.
Oh, she’s furious. She probably thinks that if the knight hadn’t acted so high-handed, the negotiations might have gone smoother.
Not that it would’ve mattered; I would’ve refused regardless.
“In that case, we’ll be leaving now. Sorry for disturbing you.”
She said, and with that, the princess led her group away from my home.
As they left, some of the others shot me resentful glances after checking on her well-being.
Honestly, even after all that, they still don’t get it?
Seeing their attitudes only made me more determined to reject their plea. They can go ahead and fall into ruin, for all I care.
As I stepped back inside, I heard the light sound of slippers approaching.
“Kenta, what happened? Something seemed different than usual.”
Standing there with a worried expression was a beautiful woman with tanned skin, long silver hair, and slightly pointed ears.
She wore an apron over her voluptuous figure and wrapped her arms around me.
“Don’t worry, Meyleen. Some human kingdom just asked me to help because apparently, the demons are causing trouble again.”
As I held her close, Meyleen’s face grew sorrowful.
“It’s because I couldn’t lead them. This is my fault…”
Seeing her regret, I reassured her.
“They’re the ones who refused to accept you as the next queen and betrayed you. It’s really my fault for defeating your father and causing all this…”
Meyleen was, after all, the daughter of the demon king I had slain.
Which made me her father’s killer.
But Meyleen gently shook her head.
“My father’s mistake was in dreaming of ruling all the human lands. It’s his own fault; he brought this on himself.”
There was clear disdain in her eyes as she said it.
Before this escalation, she had pleaded with her father to stop the full-scale invasion, trying to avoid conflict with the humans.
But her pleas fell on deaf ears. When her father realized she intended to stop him, he turned against her, targeting her life.
If I hadn’t saved her by chance, she’d likely be dead now.
When I saved her, Meyleen was filled with deep hatred toward her father, who had tried to kill her. She’d said she could never forgive him, convinced that the demon kingdom would be ruined if he continued on this path, even helping me in his defeat.
However, after her father was defeated, Meyleen—a person of only modest combat skill in a demon society where strength was equated with authority—attempted to rebuild the kingdom as the new queen. But she was rejected by the remaining retainers and forced to flee.
Around that time, I was also on the run, wandering aimlessly, wanted across the world. It was then that I unexpectedly crossed paths with Meyleen, who was hiding in a rural village. Our reunion, both of us fugitives, felt like destiny. We quickly became dependent on each other, and before long, we became lovers.
Together, we searched for a safe place and finally settled here.
“So, Kenta, are you considering accepting the humans’ request?”
“No, I turned them down right away. Why should I have to help anyone in this world?”
Hearing my irritated response, Meyleen smiled gently and stroked my cheek.
“I know you don’t care for this world, Kenta. But surely, you don’t hate everything in it?”
She tilted her head slightly as she asked, as if asking, “What about me?”
With that look, I knew I didn’t stand a chance.
“You’re right. Meyleen, you’re my exception in this world. I love you.”
I kissed her, and she blushed, smiling happily.
“Only me? What about Ivern and Yuria?”
“They’re just my supply team.”
“Oh my,” Meyleen chuckled.
Ivern and Yuria were bounty hunters who initially came to capture me, believing me to be an unforgivable criminal. But, since they weren’t the usual lowlifes, they sympathized with my story after I defeated them and spared their lives.
Honestly, I don’t like this world, but that’s mostly because of its rulers. I don’t hold a grudge against ordinary people.
My world now consists of my beloved Meyleen and, well, Ivern and Yuria, who I suppose could be called friends. This is all I need.
Or so I thought…
Suddenly, Meyleen covered her mouth and rushed to the kitchen.
I’d recreated a kitchen here, replicating the faucets and appliances from my original world using magic, which Meyleen loved.
But now, she was leaning over the sink, vomiting.
“Meyleen! Are you okay?”
I hurried over, ready to cast a healing spell, but—
“W-wait…”
She stopped me, holding up her hand to prevent me from using magic.
“But…”
Seeing Meyleen suffering, I wanted to do anything to ease her pain, so I tried to use healing magic. But she made a different request.
“Please, instead of healing magic, could you use detection magic?”
“Detection magic?”
“Yes, I can’t quite manage it myself right now…”
“O-okay. But on your body?”
“Yes.”
Though confused by her sudden request, I used detection magic on Meyleen.
And then…
“…Huh?”
The detection magic revealed Meyleen’s energy along with another—tiny, very tiny—source of energy.
“W-wait, is this…?”
I stared, stunned, at the small energy emanating from Meyleen’s stomach.
Noticing my reaction, Meyleen smiled.
“I thought so… that’s what I suspected.”
“M-Meyleen… is this…?”
When I asked in a trembling voice, Meyleen smiled radiantly.
“It seems we’re expecting.”
She placed her hand on her belly.
“Our baby.”
At that moment, I wrapped Meyleen in a tight embrace.
I take back what I said before.
My world now includes Meyleen, a few friends, and this child.
Even if this child becomes a symbol of conflict in this world—as the child of a powerful otherworlder and the former queen of the demon kingdom—it doesn’t change the fact that they are one of the few precious things I love in this world.
