Chapter 70: Recognition of cuteness

From noon on the day of rest, Mr. Henry and I wandered around downtown for about two hours. The time was midday when the children were playing outside. After deciding to do so, I learned that there is no map of the downtown area. There are maps of large plots of land, but there are no maps that show the addresses of individual houses and their residents. Henry said, “Even the royal castle doesn’t have maps with that much detail.

So my job and Henry’s would start with making a map. I was starting to feel daunted, but then Henry came up with this suggestion.

“Let’s borrow a list from the people in the tax department that oversees the tax collectors.”

“A list? Not a map? If we had a map, we could go around in order and efficiently check if there were any people with high magical powers.”

“Did your world have such a detailed map, Mai?”

“In my country, there was a map with the house number and surname of each house written on it.”

The well-prepared Mr. Henry brought a map with only rough plots drawn on it. But he was hesitant to suddenly draw in the street address and surnames on the map, since he might make some mistakes. “Hmm,” he says, pondering, and then Henry smiles.

“I also brought some paper to take notes on, so why don’t you make the same map with your transformation magic and then write in the name and addresses? ……eh? Did I say something to offend you?”

“No. I am not annoyed that you understand my magic better than I do. Don’t worry.”

Henry laughs happily. It’s no wonder, he’s so much smarter than most people. I know that, but I am seriously frustrated. I’m such a small person.

In the shadows, where no one could see me, I converted the piece of notepaper into a map. Thinking about it, I am also the battery for a walkie-talkie, a copy machine, and a 3D printer.

“Mai’s transformation magic is the most powerful magic depending on how you use it.”

“As long as I have the materials, I feel like I could build an entire house with transformation magic.”

“And weapons and poisons too. I’m glad that transformation magic is a type of magic that chooses its user. If all wizards could use transformation magic, it seems like a lot of ridiculously troublesome things would happen.”

I continued to release sensing magic as I walked through the narrow streets of the districts. The stomachs of people I passed on the street glowed white. Every once in a while, someone’s glows blue, green, or orange. I wonder what type of beastman the green one is. I would like to know, but unfortunately I can’t ask.

We didn’t get anything that day. It is not so easy to find high magic holders. If there were, there would be more in the castle’s magic department. After walking around for three hours, I got on Henry’s beloved horse,  Iris, which he had left with me.

“It’s getting late, but let’s have lunch. Is there something you’d  like to eat.”

“I want to eat meat. I have an irresistible craving for delicious skewers.”

“Let’s go. There’s a good restaurant around here.”

He took me to a restaurant in a secluded part of the district where we had walked around today. I could already smell the aroma wafting from the shop on the way there.

“The smell piques your hunger.”*

“Right? I was drawn to this place by the aroma, too. The pork liver is the best.”

The restaurant isn’t exactly what you’d call suitable for women, but the liver that was brought to me was definitely the best I had ever had.

It was so delicious that I ate it without saying a word. It must be very fresh liver. It was done carefully and had no unpleasant odor. It was cooked to perfection. The seasoning was strong, which made it perfect for drinking alcohol. The pork skewers we ordered were all delicious. There were many different cuts, each with a different taste and texture, so I never got bored of it.

Henry drank only a glass of wine, and the rest of the time he either drank fruit juice or tea. When I asked him why he wasn’t drinking, he said, “I won’t drink until I drop you off.”

I had been with several men in my life, but had any of them ever treated me so well? No, never. As antithetical as it sounds, Mr. Henry is a gentleman. He does bite when his emotions get the better of him, though.

Once my excitement over the skewers calmed down, I became curious about the waitress.

The waitress at this restaurant has an air of resemblance to Ms. Carlotta, and I find myself following her with my eyes. Her hair is light brown and she is in her early twenties, but her gestures and the way she stands remind me of Carlotta.

I thought, “What if?” and casually cast a detect spell on her, and her whole body glowed a deep red, centering on her stomach. After confirming this, I tried to concentrate on the skewers, but Henry spoke to me in a whisper.

“What color was it?”

“Ugh.”

“You used that thing, didn’t you?”

His intuition is still as sharp as ever.

“Red.”

“ knew it. I thought she had a similar vibe to my mother.”

Henry’s eyes suddenly became interested and he raised his hand. The cat-type beast girl said “Yes,” and approached. Her walk was graceful. She had an incredible figure, with curves like a violin. Her expression was also sexy. Her almond-shaped eyes had sharp, upturned corners. She was flawless. Henry asked the woman, his expression tinged with curiosity.

“What would you recommend here?”

“I recommend the braised pork cutlet and the assorted grilled skewers.”

“Then I’ll have two servings of pork tripe stew.”

“Yes, sir. This is your second time here, right?”

“Yeah”

“I’m Lou. I look forward to serving you in the future.”

“Nice to meet you, miss Lou.”

“Oh, so you can’t even tell me your name in front of your girlfriend.”

Finally, Lou smiled at me and Henry equally and went into the kitchen, but she was looking at Henry with a ratio of about nine to one. Mr. Henry is a beautiful man, isn’t he? And he’s the only one in the restaurant with an aristocratic air about him.

After that, we moved slowly through the downtown area, marking off places on the map, and headed for the “Hideaway” again. I’ve been moping all the way.

I won’t tell Mr. Henry because it’s frustrating, but no matter how you look at it, Lou is more feminine and attractive than me. What’s more, she’s a cat-type beast-woman.

If Henry is moved by this, the fight is over before it even begins. I instinctively turn around on the horse and looked at him, he had a slight smile on his face.

“Why are you smiling?”

“I’m just happy that your jealous.”

I wanted to say it wasn’t true, but he’d guessed it! I instinctively turned around and frowned, then I felt myself being hugged softly from behind.

“I could see now why you keep saying I’m cute. You look so cute right now, Mai-san.”

“Oh, is that so?”

I was miffed, and Mr. Henry was silently laughing behind me the whole time. I could feel his laughter and it was annoying. He seems to be really enjoying himself! I took a deep breath and looked up at the sky and saw a comet shining.

“That star, its light is getting stronger.”

“Yes, it is. I heard that it will be at its closest on April 20th.”

I was suddenly curious and asked a question.

“It’s common knowledge that this planet revolves around the sun, right?”

“Yes, scholars figured it out over two hundred years ago.”

“Oh, really?”

It’s very different from the world over there. Even though Galileo got into a lot of trouble for preaching the heliocentric theory.

“I’d like to hear what the scholars of this world have to say, but I think it’s best I probably don’t. I wouldn’t be able to answer if they asked me, ‘Why do you think that? What’s your evidence?'”

“Please don’t. I’m so worried I can’t take it.”

“I won’t do that. I don’t belong to this world. I don’t think there’s any point in me meddling in anything.”

After a moment of silence, Mr. Henry stopped his horse.

“Mai-san. To me, you are already a part of this world.”

“Ah, that’s right. I am already a person of the same world as you, Henry.”

On the way home from there, Henry had his left arm tightly wrapped around my stomach. The strength of his grip seemed to express his feeling of loneliness. If it were the other way around, I would feel anxious and lonely too. So I apologized to him after we arrived at the hideout.

“That was insensitive of me. I am sorry.”

“I was sad, but not angry.”

“I have no intention of going back to my world. I care for you so much, enough to be jealous of Lou.”

Henry was silent for a while, then glared at me a little, before leaning his face close to my neck and murmuring in my ear.

“Oh, so cute. Now I understand what you mean, you’re so cute I could gobble you up.”

Henry straightened his back, and with a sullen face said, “Good night. Please make sure to lock the door,” and left. I locked the door and then twisted my neck. The last time he bit my wrist, he only lightly bit me, but when he bit the nape of my neck, it was much stronger

“I’m sure I’m not misunderstanding what Henry meant when he said ‘so cute I want to eat you’, am I?”

I ran out of stock while I was doing other work!

I’ll come back after I finish the second chapter. I’ll finish it in about two weeks… I think! I’ve got 30,000 words to go, so I should be able to do it easily! |ω・`)

Henry: “As long as I have Mai’s cooking is there, I can wait.”

Glidden: “Don’t be in such a hurry and do a messy job.”

Sarah: “I’ll be waiting for you, so take your time.”

Kyrias: “I’ll be waiting for you while I work in the magic department.”

Romi: “Drink once in a while. Drinking is Alcohol for the soul.”

Dion “Take it easy.”

Mai “I don’t want you to do a rush job, so I’ll wait.”

Sophia “What’s two weeks? Fee-chan, I’m digging a hole with my woof-woof!”
